WAR - a casual game or a game where you have to work for your character?

Hi! This is my first thread ever (on this site) so i thougt i'd start of making this thread. Whatever, to the question.

Everytime I think of  WAR i'm nervous that it's gonna be a casual game like WoW TBC or a game where you have to work for your character. Make your character unique to everybody else is, for me, an important thing.

I'm not a 100% hardcore player, but i still like and enjoy it when you're either just unnable to get an epic gear (maybe because you dont play so much, or guild etc.) or when you have to work very hard to obtain that epic gear. Sorry, but I dont want another WoW TBC (Sorry i only use WoW but as i have spent most time there i got most experience from there also).

So, how is it? Discuss.

Well it will have casual things to do it also has on the more harder core (being the city sieges and such)

BUT sticking out from the group, goes to a certain extent, with armor colors and such but keep in mind you are a soldier not a super adventurer

I seem to remember from the podcasts that you can stick things on your armor ..stuff you got from killing an enemy,  like a skull or something like that.   I just don't remember what they're called atm :)

  • I think the great thing about Public Quests is that they are available for anyone to participate if they want to - whether grouped or not. This is also true with RvR scenarios, as you'll be able to do quests to contribute to your faction's war effort, even solo.

Seems to be good for both sides.

Public quests are a fantastic news for us casual players.  I really think this game is going to be more casual friendly then most.

It's a very well rounded game imo. Whether you be hardcore or casual, a PvEer or PvPer (RvR), soloer or grouper...there are fun things for you to do. It's not really based around catering to one particular group and in the end I think that's what will make this such a successful game. There's something for everyone to do and no matter what it is you do, you're helping to further your own realm and faction. It really brings people together.

Sorry but raiding is not hardcore.  That's just a time sink.  Full looting pvp with eventual permadeath is hardcore.

Eventual permadeath...hmmm how many games have you played like that?  Just curious, was there a specific server set aside or was the whole game like that?

Personally if I am going to put all that effort into my character....and the whole game is "permadeath"...why don't I just delete it and get it over with? ^^

I've been playing MMOs for a long time, most of them had pvp.   One had RVR which is a heck of alot more fun, another one that I am interested in, and that happens to be the subject of discussion in this thread also RVR.

I really don't think the novelty of a permadeath server would ..in the long term bring in alot of money ..consistently.   Thats why far as I know...I haven't seen a game with that feature yet.   BUT...every closed beta I have been in...people have been shouting, jumping up and down saying thats what they want.     Funny thing is...from closed beta to release, haven't seen that option yet.

Do you think possibly it might be so niche that only a few "hardcore" would dedicate their gameplay to a server like that?   I tend to think so.

But ..I did read somewhere that AOC....is doing some new content called "To the Death" or some such...maybe you should check it out. :)
