Mine is different, and I think jealousy is starting to take hold of the AoC fan base here on this website because of the raw deal they are getting from AoC/funcom. THey can't handle the fact that people here in this forum ,for the most part who play the game give Turbine 100% support , and might I add with happy faces
LotRo client has not crashed for in over 10 months..... Vanguard client still crashes atleast 1 or 2 times a week..... When I did the AoC OB that client was crashing over 20 times in 3 hours.........I think you will see people come to a more stable game which they can actually play for periods of time with hassle, upping the player base by 5% by christmas .. When Mines of moria releases it will be Number 1 on the NPD at launch .
It is also a known fact that less time in game, will equal a more stable environment. If your computer does not have time to even heat up from your 30 minute or 1 hour playing session, you can easily bypass many issues.
For example, I can quote at least 4 people right now who have had ZERO stability issues in AoC. Of course they maybe play an hour a day.
When I played AoC for 2 hours or more, the client became more unstable. Yet, everytime I logged into LOTRO, I instantly got the hitching.
Guess it just varies for different people.
I guess the real goal here is to see how long a player needs to play to be satisfied with their game. LOTRO fans are very avid about their game being "Awesome" sauce, yet, AoC has the same rabid fans. So far both games show a player base who play 1-3 hours at most in the majority. Yet, why do so many others see issues in these games. If the game is so perfect to someone, why cant another person enjoy it as much as that fan?

This poll is very interesting
There is something you fail to consider. LOTRO has been out for over a year, AoC has been out for 2 months, people in one game are now just logging in for the end game while others in AoC are still leveling or creating alts and leveling them as well.
Right now I play 1-3 hours per day and on Friday and Saturday I play for 6 hours (due to Raids and getting ready for them), there is not much for me to do in LOTRO besides Raiding.
The only times I actually play more than 1-3 hours per day is when a new book is released and hopefully when MoM comes out.
Only thing X-fire shows me is what kids my sons age play, he is 12. There is quite a mature group that play LOTRO. I for one, asked my kinship about x-fire usage. Out of the 45 in my kinship that were on last night, none used x-fire. None. I for one, dont care if people know what I play, but don't add another snooper program to my pc. No thank you!
When I first started playing again I logged around 50 hours for the first 7 days of play. This has declined as I've gotten further in the game and I am now around 40 hours per 7 days. Generally I can play 5ish hours on a weekday, more on weekends.
I haven't logged a session greater than a few hours at one time in the game, however if I have played a few hours I have not noticed any stability issues at all with the game. The same with any game actually though.

May I ask? How may hours a week do you work? And are you married and have children?
And I think it is more than stability. We are discussing issues with how the mechanics work, how the visuals look. glaring issues with say textures or models, animations, fonts...and broken mechanics like dungeons that kick you out...the list goes on.
I think there is a correlation to how many hours a person plays and how they view these problems (less hours equals happier with the game whether others see problems or not)
You can get thousands of people in every MMO out there that can fit any generalized stereotype you want to make whatever point you want.
You will never get enough votes especially on a site as skewed as this to legitimately make whatever point you are trying to make.
The majority of the MMORPG players that exist now due to WoW and as the genre has grown are not hardcore gamers and probably 80-90% play casually. The more mainstream games coming out are going to be catered towards the majority which are casual gamers, and hopefully some companies still try to make games to cater to the more hardcore crowd.
I am playing Lineage II and LotrO at the same time which are two extremes, but I can tell you I have friends that have 3-4 50's in LotRO and will do nothing but talk about how polished and well made the game is. They have been playing MMO's since EQ1, and they normally move around a lot more than they have since they started LotRO. I can barely ever even get them to play Guild Wars with me anymore.

20-30 hours, I'm not married but I'm a student. Granted I'm not taking classes right now because I wanted to take the summer off, but in about a month I will be again. So when that time comes I'll probably be playing less, who knows though.
I love the style of the game honestly. The style and look of the game is really what made me decide to pick it up again, I overlooked the more important part - gameplay. That is what has me playing less, I find the gameplay -- as I progress more and more, with rewards (levels) taking more time to obtain -- just dull. For example, the combat system seems to have this weird pseudo turn based style to it, where you do one normal swing and then a special.
MAN....Fellow puts up a simple poll, and gets a rash of crap over it.. It's his poll for christs sake..what's the problem ???..you don't like it?..make your own.. now for the question. I'm on a short break from the game.two and a half weeks or so..Will be back to playing two days from now. Started in beta, and play any where in the range of 10-19 hours.A day.. I have 15 char's over three servers.Eight of which are level 50. I'm retired/disabled and mmorpg's are my preferred form of entertainment.
Wow, you must like LOTRO a lot
EVen with an almost unlimited time on my hand, I would probably not be able to level 8 alts (!) to the cap myself. And I have always thought I love this game

Normally its only a couple of hours for me, but since I raid at least twice a week, the average amount greatly increases. Its not uncommon for me to be on a Rift raid that goes all the way to the balrog on one night. And that alone takes at least 6 hours, not including the intial raid assemly process.
Lotro is very unique though, because it is very easy to get a lot done in short periods of time, especially regual quests. It took 3 nights about 2 hours a night, to do 2/3 of all Forochel quests. All i got left is the bk13 stuff and some quests from that north-eastern city.

LOL i need to update it...hes 41 now. No I don't have anything higher. Started playing in Feb. Trying to get to 50 before MoM comes out. Also I'm only on book 5 so I'm trying to catch up on that too.

Are you gonna keep asking everyone until you find one person who matches your negative feeling/opinion about LOTRO? you know that won't change the game itself, but good luck anyway
But jokes (?) aside, you have said in this thread that you only faced suspicion of negativity as a reaction for your poll(s) in the TR boards and here. This poll is very interesting
Crashes in any software game usually occur in the first 20 minutes of game play if it is a software problem, hardware can take several hours before the computer just dies and says reboot me.
How do you explain a Memory leak then? This usually takes hours to build up..
EQ2 had one for ages that took people 2-4 hours of play before it reared it's head. Same for AoC recently.
The Raid and Siege people are usually the ones who keep getting booted after hours of play.
So, no 20 minutes is incorrect. If anything, a person could hop into their game, complete a quest or two in 20 minutes, log out, and be perfectly fine.
As to hardware taking hours, usually a system with no fan on their heatsink (due to it burning out) can overheat in minutes. Same for bad videocards.
I think you have this backwards by mistake. Software can be hours, hardware is in minutes.
Memory leak leaks can sometimes go on for ever without crashing, in 10 years of pc gaming most of the hard crashes that I have experienced are immediate. A lot of things that happene in a game don't automatically translate to a crash.
Though I am not sure what any of this has to do with your poll, we should get back on topic .
my hours will cut back even more since I got my fall schedule
Because you started that specific post? And I am not sure why you did.
I still feel you are incorrect, and most anecdotal data will show this. Hardware can crash instantaneously depending on the configuration (i.e: the "Hard crash" you quote), but as YOU stated, a memory leak (software based) can take time...meaning a person could play for hours without an issue. But, the more time they play, more of a chance the bug has to rear it's head.
Example. I played The Witcher for 10 hours before I found a game stopping bug, that luckily was fixed by downgrading my install, finishing a quest, then patching back to the latest version.
But, your correct, it is off topic...but a little. The hours can also be construed as such due to players issues, reason why it is important.
One player stated on the AoC forums he would be playing 3 hours a day, but is dealing with a graphical glitch, which impedes his ability to play no more than an hour. So, his schedule is messed up thanks to a bug in the game. Play more than an hour, and he gets hit with a texture issue,,, Software based AND takes time to trigger.
Reason I feel this study is important. People seem to be much happier with certain games thanks to their limited schedules....
People seem to be much happier with certain games thanks to their limited schedules....
hehe this is it!
Why is it only certain games?? I think this can be aplyed to ALL games.. not just LotrO and AoC that you seem to believe (yea even GW and WoW)... you made up your mind before you made theese polls and whatever they say you will get the same answer from them...
and I think Ive played LotrO alot more than you have played EQ2/GW/AoC or whatever your flavor of the month game is
and guess what? I still enjoy the game despite its flaws! (such as limited end-game and poor characrter custimization)
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Yes that is why this game is great for the casual player or people that are hampered by their RL schedules.

I just started less than 2 week ago. I cycled through my four characters, and my monster, and did the /played command. After adding it up, figured out I had somehow spent a total 116 hours in 10 days. And that's with a full time job - but sleep is overrated.
only thing I can see here is that the EQII and WoW users tend to have longer play sessions than the other games due to the raid oriented end games , a big duh! on that one

People seem to be much happier with certain games thanks to their limited schedules....
hehe this is it!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Yes that is why this game is great for the casual player or people that are hampered by their RL schedules.

What? No "12 hours per day"option?
I just started less than 2 week ago. I cycled through my four characters, and my monster, and did the /played command. After adding it up, figured out I had somehow spent a total 116 hours in 10 days. And that's with a full time job - but sleep is overrated.
for whatever it is worth
XFire numbers from yesterday
Guild Wars 33714 hours 10 965 users 3.07 hours
WoW 410 205 hours 92 345 users 4.44 hours
LoTRO 9296 hours 2535 users 3.67 hours
Eve 12 102 hours 3812 users 3.17 hours
Tabula Rasa 636 hours 214 users 2.97 hours
AoC 19211 hours 5285 users 3.64 hours
Hellgate 2986 hours 1202 users 2.48 hours
EQII 2638 hours 574 users 4.6 hours
only thing I can see here is that the EQII and WoW users tend to have longer play sessions than the other games due to the raid oriented end games , a big duh! on that one
I miss DAoC
