I think the game is getting better for sure. I am having fun again in an MMORPG.
My other half plays as well.

And how often do you play? 1-3 hours a day...20+ a week or less?

We try to get in 12 hrs or so a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. We also play LOTRO so between the two yes around 20ish.

AoC would have been a good game in the hands of a competent dev team, but IMO it's future is just another "coulda been" MMO which will survive with merged servers and a dedicated fanboy base. Some people love crap, but that's life. Too bad the player base as a whole won't send a message with teeth (no subs) to FC, but some will always support bad games.
I believe the less people play in a session, the less they will notice these things though.

While I still read the forums sometimes, I vowed to never post here again (for reasons I won't go into here  - but it has nothing to do with the posters; that's all I'll say), I do actually want to partially defend Funcom on something...

Their performance in the MMO dept is certainly questionable. I don't know how they could run a MMO like Anarchy Online (a very fun MMO in its own right, with an extraordinarily deep character customization system) for as long as they have and have the quantity of issues they're being widely (not just here) panned for with AoC.

However, they're not a totally incompetent company.  "The Longest Journey" and its sequel, "Dreamfall", both Funcom titles, are solid, fun and, frankly, brilliant games that have each won a boat-load of awards and accolades. I would highly recommend them both to anyone who appreciates a good adventure game, without hesitation.

What's going on with FC in the MMO genre, however... no idea.

Anyway... That's all I wanted to say :)

Finally if you wish, I would be interested in your age and if you are married or in a committed relationship or at least have children.
    Thank you

Your poll fails.  There is no option for people that just want to see the results.  So no doubt you are getting a lot of trash feedback from people that don't play and just want to see the results.

It is such a small quotient actually, so if a couple "skew" the results, the answers in the thread are more telling. Seems the responses have been in line with my beliefs as well.

If a person enjoys the game, they seem to put in a minimal amount of hours, and to them as long as they are "entertained" for an hour or two, they will accept a lot of duff.

For example use the largest form of entertainment that is 2 hours or less. Movies. Check out Rotten Tomatoes, and look at the swath of DvD releases that are crap scores. Yet look at how many are listed as top ten releases. Interesting. People will live with crap for one or two hours to be entertained..

But, due to the nature of MMO's, and the fact some people want to be entertained for hours on end, I think we can note how some will be outspoken over how bad a game is, yet a minor vocal group can champion a title that is either buggy (AoC) or mediocre in delivery (LOTRO) or so old and rickety with an engine that croaks on computers, yet they want a game that has some feeling of accomplishment in an hours time (EQ2)

    This poll was very helpful.

Quite a few patches have been good, like the one for sieging that didnt boot you out of the border kingdom when you die fix. Many graphical clothing glitches, nerfs on necros who were too powerful at higher levels, improvements for rangers etc. Plenty out there. Maybe your game time was limited and you didnt see them? Fixed the Arena, quest markers, rewards, group encounters, raid caves on and on.
Wow. So we're praising Funcom for patches that made the game playable? That's really pathetic. That's what we call BETA. As far as the Necro and Ranger go, the forums never cease with new activity complaining about how nerfed they are and how much they change based on their level. There's no logical progression for them. At level 40 they might do poorly, but at level 50 they own everything in sight, and they're back to doing poorly at level 60.

Fixed group encounters and raid caves? This is the AoC forum, right? Raids and group encounters are still bugged to shit. People vanishing, people not being in the same instance and the GMs refusing to help them and so fourth. If that's your idea of fixed, I'm so very sorry.
If you didnt experience something broken first time around how would you know it was broken to begin with? I have the capacity to admit I havent seen all of the game from the point of view of all classes to get a better understanding, have you?
I can usually tell if something is broken the first time around because I've played other MMORPGs before, and AoC is about as cookie cutter as they come. To say that you have to play all the classes is ludicrous. That's like saying you need to be an economist to recognize the economy is having issues. More importantly, it's a cop-out. You're trying to come up with excuses to shield a broken game from the criticism it rightly deserves.
Its transitioning from release, thats self evident. What new born baby doesn't cry? AoC has growing pains and its working through them sometimes really well and some weeks not so well.
That hasn't been my impression, nor has it been the impression of the majority of people posting on their official forums, be it general discussion, tech, server, or class. In-game is little better. Over the past three weeks, I couldn't find a single group where most of the members were griping at some point because of a bug we encountered while trying to play the game.

Comparing AoC, or ANY MMORPG to an enfant is a weak analogy. We're not paying for half assed products with missing features promised at launch and false advertising campaigns with almost no communication from Funcom, pissy customer service and completely unhelpful GMs.
No one is asking you to pay for a game you think is beta. Just let it go a while if you think that, every new game I have played has had issues. Every single one. Some more than others, forsure. Look at all the crap AO went thru and tell me FC dont have the ability to fix things.
I never played AO because of all the crap, and I wish I would have learned my lesson the first time around with Funcom. I thought maybe they would have changed, but that was a foolish thought. To say every game has had issues is true, but the extent of those issues in AoC is mind boggling. It also does not explain the extreme lack of customer service. After 7 plus years, I would hope that Funcom would have AO working by now. I'm not willing to wait around for them to give the same 7 year courtesy to AoC, and I'll bet I'm far from alone.
Whats important here is how fast and how well they can do it here in AoC's case. No one is saying stay around while this is happening, everyone has a choice. Either you can have fun in the game or you can't, and people have to decide if what they are getting is worth their money.
Which is why AoC is at best going to become a niche game. So many people have left and are spreading the word that Funcom would be lucky to have 300k active subsriptions in August. Even if they fixed the bugs, I still wouldn't come back, because the game they created is a cramped world and almost as linear as LOTRO. It doesn't do justice to Robert E. Howard and it's just another button mashing game. Their combat system is a gimmick and gets old after about level 15, made increasingly annoying by the wierd hand gymnastics you have to do to ignite combos as a melee character. But never fear! Roll a caster and get the same MMO experience you've had in WoW. One button attacks...
Week in Week out people who are consistantly playing the game can see the changes are for OVERALL the better, the best place to search is the server specific forums, not to mention in game itself. Yes its a good place to read whats messed up too!
And that's why people are loling their asses off at Funcom's inability to put out a patch that doesn't break more than it fixes. Seriously man, if July 17 wasn't enough to show you how little Funcom knows about its own game, then nothing is going to do it.

AoC has the potential to easily become the next Vanguard. But that might be over-generous, since Vanguard had much more potential than AoC, and its tiny little cramped, linear world and total lack of features.

I play about 2-3 hours a day, and my days off around 5-6 or so. I am still enjoying the game and am at level 42 now, with 3 other alts around 20-30. I have a wife and a 18 month old son, and really as you posted in the other thread just because I dont play a game more than 5 hours a day on average does not mean I do not like it. I play Call of Duty 4 about 30 minutes to a hour a day and I love that game, and on the other thread you were going on about "You can put 28 hours a week into AoC with a wife, kid, and full-time job." Yea, I could but I actually have a life outside of my PC.

The minimal amount of time also allows you to enjoy a buggy game, as you have less chance of running into the myriad number of issues (for example your comment that "PvP is balanced" shows zero knowledge of the PvP metagame, either that or your a ToS)

No, I think the reason you enjoy the game is due to the fact you have little time to play games, and as such, AoC being new allows you to play something besides the other "better" games which require a commitment of time and skill.

my problem with AoC isnt the bugs, which there are many.. its the game itself. its very empty compared to other mmo's. and it is VERY easy compared to other mmo's i blew thru it in two months without any effort at all compared to when i played wow, GW, and EQ2..  if you havent bought AoC do yourself a HUGE favor and get something else instead.

They talked too much and right now I don't think they are doing any good.

But I hope they will later.

Only have one little problem with AoC... even if it did have it all and was working... I still miss the open area in MMO's. Thats something AoC don't have. I can not open the door if I don't have a quest, I can't jump over this and that, I must load everytime I visit new area... thats boring... just like Tabula Rasa... =/

Hope someone make a new MMO like the old ones. Freedom, explore...

The problem with AoC that many people over look is actually the IP itself.

Original IP's generally make better mmo's due to the ability to create specific lore to fit the situation and expand the world in ways an IP like Conan cannot.  The world is small in scope and has to stick to strict guidelines.  Apart from just adding in more zones or items, the game really cannot expand like Everquest or WoW can.  We already see this effect with the armor in Conan - everything looks the same from the start of the game to the end.  Very boring indeed after time.

The Conan IP is great, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't translate well into this genre where expansion, new ideas, lore growth are paramount.  This IP would be gold as a single player RPG - tortage proves this on a small scale.

They should rush on adding high level content, but in my opinion, "for me" im level 28, they are doing right, as of now.

I hit the cancel button the other day when they nerfed the terrain. I am a lvl 75 guardian in keshatta tryin to make it to 80. I jump up on a hill (a hill I have been on many times before) and I cant get up the damn thing. I was like "wtf??". After a few tries, I fall through the terrain with npc's attacking me as Im swimming to safety under ground.

I swim back to shore and then go to another hill (that i knew I could climb the day before) and the same fucking thing happened. As I sat in the water under ground, I pondered if AoC was worth my time and money to put up with this shit. It only took me about 30 seconds to log off, go to the subsciption page and hit the cancel button.
After I hit the cancel button I went to the AoC forums to tell of my misadventures only to find my account banned for a week for trolling for telling this story. After I saw that, I deleted the whole game from my comp and threw the CE box in the trash.
I will NEVER buy another funcom product EVER. And I hope those pricks go out of business for all the lies and bs that they have told all of us mmo gamers who paid to play this pos.

    Nerfed the terrain.

    Funny stuff this
