Interested in trying the 14 day trial, but it seems overwhelming

vingvegavingvega Member Posts: 577

I am contemplating downloading the free trial and giving it a shot but I heard so many horror stories on how hard it was to learn.  So many options...so many things to do.  I just don't know what to do.  Is there a guide (step by step ) to follow along with the online tutorial that is any good?  Thanks.

The tutorial is excellent nowadays, plus the vast majority of people are very friendly and helpful.

Don't take my word for it though - give it a go! :)

Well, here is a guide that you can read offline (http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/).  Once you have finished the tutorial you can also join the EVE University channel for some of the most helpful people ingame.  You might even want to consider joining the corporation.  They can help with any and every aspect of the game and give you the things you need right now so you aren''t inundated with info that you will only need in the future.

Give it a try, there is a lot to learn, but it's not nearly so bad as the horror stories you've heard.  :)

    Hey Vingvega,

The most important thing in eve is to make good friends to help guide you that have the right attitude... its very much a social game and you won't get anywhere if you don't make any friends.

If you find yourself in a pinch (in game) PM me here and I'll see what I can do to help smooth out the 'transitioning' process :)

I am  a new player... Started last wednesday.

EvE has a big learning curve... It is not a joke.... You will be flowed with tons of information at the start of the game.... Join Eve University... I did and it is so very helpful... They answer any questions and trust me  you will ask a lot of questions..

Dont be scared to ask questions... IF you do not know ask.... I am quickly learning EvE but I have along long way to go.... EvE is not your normal MMO but it is well worth it if you are looking for something that will challenge you.

Take my advice as a new player it is worth the learning curve.

Thats the great thing about the free trial, the only thing you waste is a bit of bandwidth if you decide you dont like it.  Do keep one thing in mind though.  Give it at LEAST 3-4 days.  It's a complicated game and chances are it will take you a few days to get the hang of.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

Just a tip for all people doing EVE free trial, dont try to mine in the first 2 weeks or you will quit the game out of sheer mind numbing boredom.

I believe that the extensive learning curve is something that acutally makes EvE a better game than most. Ive been playing since 06 and I'm still learning how to do certain things while practicing to perfect others.

    It's a real sandbox out there :D

This mmo is the only one out there where nearly everything is possible. Honestly if I had more time on my hands I'd still play this game. The first thing you have to do is decide: do you want to be mainly a warrior or a trader. Sure you can start as one an go on to being another. The alliance I was in didnt incipe ppl to go int research and developpment so can talk abotu these roles. But being a warrior for a main alliance often means loosing a ship every 2 or 3 operations ( you get free/ cheap ships from your corp) staying for 2 h in camping a gate to defend a your turf while some of your mates a attacking. But once in a while alliance whide op heading into ennemy turf to take out a POS or even a titan. And beleive me when you take out a titan you can feel the pride, destroying something worth hundreds of dollars, everyone yelling on vent...

You cna also stay safe in secure space and carebear your nice ship or take part in the empyrean age new missions (more aimed at casual players). The economy in this game is an actual world economy simulator. There are big cons, corp that only do trading. The only caree for which you'd need contacts with ppl that already play to get into is being a pirate. Been hunting them nearly during my whole stay in eve they live the dangerous life and they dont let everyone in their ranks.

This game's big battles makes wow's raiding seem like tutorial quests, its is a unique mmo that is really not for everyone.

Durign your tutorial i advise you to just do missions, fight some npc pirates and try to have fun, when the trial is over decide what you want to do (stay in empire or join the alliance wars) and join a corp that does what your interested in (some in empire corps have merc branches that assist in fighting the out of empire corps, and out of empire corps have ppl doign trade in empire in order to finance their never ending wars)

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice time to learn something that will benefit you in the long run.

Ie. playing a game that isn't a WoW clone, or even WoW itself.

Learning how to play EVE is worth it.
