I am not too crazy about being a space ship or about space in general, nor lasers aliens and teleporters but hopefully if people gain more interest in sci-fi MMOs it will lead to to more diverse sci-fi games, like something in the vein of Blade Runner or maybe something steampunk.  So for the sake of diversity I hope at least one sci-fi MMO becomes big enough to gain the interest of other developers so that they start rethinking the setting for possible new MMOs.

Fallen Earth looks pretty good, I like the setting, but also has that indy feeling that makes me a bit concerned.

WELL looks pretty good too, like SWG, but hopefully it will not be as slow as SWG was, that was a very off putting feature for me.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

Being a huge Star Wars fan, I'm naturally excited about a KotOR MMO, even though I have a feeling it will be a linear WoW clone, which isn't what I'm looking for. I'm pretty excited about Earthrise as it sounds very sand boxy, I just hope it can deliver. Tonight was the first time I looked at Jump Gate Evolution, and quite honestly I think it looks really cool. Never played(or even heard of) the original and the basic idea is very interesting, on top of the fact that I have been a combat flight sim fan for all of my gaming career. It's a very exciting time for MMO's for me, as the last couple years have been very dull, repetitive, and disappointing, the next year or two looks very promising and exciting.

omg that feels like a post I would write down to the last letter

Seriously though EVE is okay if you can get past the extreme learning curve. What mmorpg are you playing right now to tie you over or do you play other genres to occupy your time. I'm currently playing EVE + KOTR 1 which occupies all my time :)

Currently I'm not playing anything right now. Star Wars Galaxies was my first MMO and I loved it. Since the destruction of it, I have tried a lot of games(including Eve a few times but had trouble getting into it), and out of all of the games I tried, I've only played Guild Wars(mostly because of real life friends) and WoW(again real life friends) for any decent amount of time. But those games weren't able to hold me for very long, about 8-9 month period each. Frankly I'm just sick of fantasy, it was never really my thing to start with. WoW is very simplistic and I think that it's moving in the wrong direction(My gripe is mostly with Arenas... I play a Feral druid, enough said. There should be WAY more focus on World PvP, give some type of reward for killing world bosses ect, but instead they are focusing on small instance pvp).

I just can't find a game I absolutely love the way I loved SWG. I'm hoping the one of the sci-fi titles I mentioned will be able to  help me out. I'm the most excited about Jump Gate Evolution and Earthrise at the moment though.

World of Warcraft would be more fun for me too if they focused more on the world pvp. They had the right idea with BGs I thought but too bad they didnt make world pvp like the BGs (award the gear and have rez spots that people can occupy and towns ppl can pillage)

Just throwing it out there but it was announced a while ago that a Warhammer 40k MMO was coming out by the same developers of DAWN.

Not sure if i got the devs right but thats what i remember.   And they have yet to announce how its going to pan out at all.  From what i have read.

These aren't exactly MMO's, but they've caught my sci-fi eye none the less.

Space Siege is coming out real soon, looks awesome. It's basically Dungeon Siege, but in space. (duh) I've watched a few videos and read everything I can find on it and I'll be buying it when it hits the shelves I'm fairly certain.

Next up is the almighty Spore. Probably the single most anticipated game ever to come from Will Wright. It's sorta sci-fi'ish. Regardless of any other circumstances I WILL be buying it.

After that is Fallout 3. I don't really have much faith in Bethesda, I mean basically from what I've seen they've just taken the same engine that was used for Oblivion and changed the graphics around. I can't say that for 100% certainty, but that's what it looks like to me. I'll have to steal it from a  torrent first to see if it's worth a crap, if it's good I'll buy it for sure. I'll risk buying Space Siege and Spore without a trial, but not Fallout 3, I have ZERO faith in Bethesda.

I was really looking forward to Huxley, until I found out it was just a fragfest FPS. If I wanted brainless run and gun I'd just go play Duke Nukem or some stupid shit like that.

I really have no comment on the games other folks have listed other than I'll wait and see. I've looked that the individual websites and really there isn't enough information on any other them to make a judgement on whether they're gonna be any fun or not.

Hell I'll probably play them all at least for a short while just because theirs no god damned elfs and shit in them.

Want a taste of religion? Lick a witch.

Hm, on most games posted there is loads of info. my own number one fallen earth has a huge list of comunity questions on the forums (whit aswers) We pretty mutch know 60% of the game mechanics if not more now. the big secret is its final lore settings and the small details, but in big lines its all clear.

Yes, and no. I would like to see some sci-fi titles, but I don't have any confidence that any of the ones you listed will be any good.

I definitely want to play as a person, not as a spaceship like in EVE.

It's not sci-fi exactly, but I did like City of Heroes. It was a nice change from the fantasy genre.

Isn't a Star Trek MMO on the way as well?

Sure is a Star Trek MMO, it's only been bankrupt repurchased new developers etc etc. I'd call it one of the biggest comedy of error's of MMO's that remains vaporware.

I hear you about playing as a person and not a ship, thats definitely an issue with EVE. All things considered, the combat of Sci-Fi MMO's is an issue. Lasers/phasers/stun guns/plasma rifles etc etc. All of these are much more destructive than any sword/dagger attack even when used by someone relatively unskilled. So I don't think the combat lends itself to suspension of disbelief the way fantasy does.

One day someone will figure out a sci-fi MMO where you need armored vehicles to tank the bosses (omg a real tank) hehe.

One of the things that makes Star Wars highly appealing as an MMO is that its essentially a Fantasy with a scifi veneer.

Myself, I think I'd rather see a MMO based on something like John Scalzi's Old man's war.

I always thought that sci-fi games were more like westerns in space more so than fantesy games. Though you're propably right about them being like fantesy games as well. Considering that the mechanics of all MMO started with D&D pencil and paper games.

As for Star Trek Online, the buzz around the MMO town is that Cryptic Studios bought the rights when Perpertual went belly up. Cryptic had a countdown on its website and many think it's for the official anouncement for a Star Trek MMO. We'll see in about 4 days if this is true or not.

Back to the main topic. YES! I think this is the year for sci-fi MMO and it's about time too! Between Earthrise, Star Gate Online, the improved potential of  a KOTOR MMO and the possible announcement of a new Trek game this looks like a good time to be a sci-fi gamer!!

I want to like Fallen Earth. I'm into the post apocalyptic thing. But I'm not liking the graphics I'm seeing so far. There's good ugly and bad ugly, and this is looking like the latter right now.

Well its known that the current line of screenshots and previews all are alfa /beta grapics, .. ofcource it wont have AoC kind of grapics, thats impossible for current generation games whitout heavy instances.

but the latest char model update shows its going to be alright. it stays a personal thing tho. some like wow cartoony  , others like champions online cartoony and so on,

Yes, I had seen the updated screens. And I'm not talking about it having a great state-of-the-art graphics engine, I'm talking about the art. You might not like the cartoony nature of WoW, but the art is well designed. If the art was good, a grungy, cyber-punk look would appeal to me. It isn't in this case because it's not well designed.
