People need to think long and hard because open rvr does not mean  a gank fiest? How many time in your wow(if you played it) days did you see people asking the devs for a transfer to a pvp server after players realised it was not that bad at all.

I am really split between the core and open. If  you can get enough mature guilds/players on an open server i think it could be a blast. Going by the poll on the WHA site many people especially old DAOC players are leaning towards open.

As Mark said ,this is not FFA so they`re are rules on the open rvr server.

    Time will tell..

I've never been a huge role player, but I think that I could get into playing a Chaos Chosen on a RP ORVR server.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Open RVR will be where I'm starting.  I might change later on if it turns out to be worse then I think but I always start out there.

In WoW I played 2 chars to 60 on a PvP server which I loved.  Then after a few years I switched to a "Carebear" server because I was going altaholic and I ended up with 3 more 70s that I wanted only for the end game.  Grinding out those lvls with 70 NE Rogues sitting in STV and everywhere else on a gank fest got old fast.

I happen to be one of the people who really likes the battlegrounds and thats where I wanted my PvP.  Not when I was trying to get around.

Can someone shed some light on the difference between these different server types?

  • Ascension08Ascension08 Member Posts: 1,980

Linedawg - There's PvE areas and PvP areas in each Tier, with Tier 1 having mostly PvE and Tier 4 having mostly PvP. On Core Servers, you can't attack any Destruction players (or vice versa) in the PvE areas, but on Open RvR servers, you can. However, on both servers the Chicken rule applies and you can't go to lower level Tiers to gank low level players. RP CS and RP ORvR just means they're Role-playing, which means they might have naming/speech guidelines, like no "Tehawsumdood" names.

Anyone else feel free to add if I missed something or if I'm wrong...!

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

A ORVR-RP sever would be fun to play I guess. I allways liked the RP communities in mmos even though I dont rp much myself.

    Core Server:

simply this is the basis for all other servers with some rule changes...in a simple descriptive terms

You start in newbie leveling area:  safe for newbies (no ganking) opposing realm have no effect (chicken rule) then progress to...lets say zone A and zone B.

Zone A is a PvE zone where opposing realm can not enter (according to Mark)

Zone B is an RvR zone  opposing realm fights at will.

Open RvR server:  the difference between this server from a Core server is Zone A is now an RvR zone.  In essence no purely PvE zone, except for the newbie zone.

RP tags just means names are moderated to enforce an RP atmosphere so no names like leetdude1337 and such but the base rule set is either core or open RvR

Hope this example enlightens, did not want to write a long winded description that could be parsed to mean all sort of things it did not mean.

    I am thinking the same.

I wouldn't be interested at all if there weren't an ORvR server, I have no interest in pvE-ing next to enemies i can't kill beyond the newbie areas.

RP-ORVR I think, not sure though, will probably go for a RP server at least.

I think that i will proplbly start on a RVR Server but i am also thinking a bout RP-RVR but i have never really done that before in a game so i am not really shure about it. But Definatly RVR.

I am going to be rolling a behemoth Black Orc on an Open RVR server to gank all!

My main will most likely be on a core server because my circle of friends aren't ones to enjoy being ganked due to time constraints.  However, I'll most likely have an alt on an ORvR or RP-ORvR server.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

I'll definately have to try out RP-ORvR to see what its like, but I'll probobly make a few alts on RP-CS.  Roleplay communities tend to be a bit more civil (at least the one's I've been on) and I am sick of names like "Beowulf" or "Valkilmersucks."
