IM looking to upgrade to vista with the new computer Im goign to order here soon. Can you just reformat and install vista with this disk? Because if not I dont think I will be getting the upgrade package?
No dont upgrade. XP and vista are 2 sepreate kernals. You could hit problems with the upgrade and a clean install is always nice.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Yeah thats why he said to install it twice. Once to to the upgrade then the 2nd time to to the clean install. Wish you ould just do it once with the clean install. lol
Where are you buying your computer from? Thats the defining factor. If its from Dell, you need their software. Any company like Dell, HP, Compaq, ect. have their own stuff preloaded and is nearly impossible to undo to install fresh.
If its just an OEM version of windows installed (say someone built it for you, or you built it yourself), why not just buy the normal OEM version of Vista to install fresh? It isnt much more than the upgrade really.
And as for installing the upgrade from XP, its perfectly fine.

Yes you can. You basically have to install it twice. Install but don't activate and then do it again.
