Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Funcom is now officially Funcon/Failcom/Failcon...

I just attempted to try the trial, and it turns out you need to select a subscription for when the trial is over, such as a one month recurring subscription, you don't have the option to pay if you do like the game or not. Does Funcom expect everyone to like the game? Ha! That's a good one Funcom.

I thought the trial was going to be like any other trial for any other game, such as WoW (10 days, if you like it you can subscribe), or Tabula Rasa (3 days, same option). But apparently Funcom has added a new definition to trial.

Funcom Dictionary.

Trial - Another lie, you have to join the game after the trial is finished. If you don't want to, then you don't get to play.

Haha. I'm getting sick and tired of Funcom... They need to get it together.

Huh ? Easy solution would be to add your billing info , Once you have your account set up cancel , At the end of the trial you won't be charged. A lot of companies have operated their trials like this.

This is actually common practice with the other MMO's as well. So nothing new here really.

    Wrong.

Neither WOW, EQ1, VG, EQ2, nor SWG require you to give billing info for the trial.

Nope. I've played most popular ones out there. A trial is usually a big (free btw) download. You create an account meanwhile, password , board name, etc. Then install, log in and go.

You may be thinking of when you BUY a game, sign up, and they ask for the CC, but you aren't charged until 30 is up.

    Trial? No.

You have to remember too, that when FC force you to sign up, you are now one of the "1,000,000 accounts created11!!1" slogan they will release before the quarterly report coming up. Which will be repeated ad nosium by the fanboys as "1,000,000 SUBSCRIPTIONS!"

    Really?

I can't think of one single MMO that required me to provide my "billing info" for a trial, and I've tried almost every single MAJOR pay to play MMO released since 1997.

Either way the points here still stand , Quite a few companies have operated trials this way .DAOC used to (not sure now) COH/V does and a few others.

Most of them must of changed it recently, because I swore they used to require you to put in a credit card for the trial.

CoH/V I've had no interest in at all.

Now knowing they want my billing info cements my unwillingness to try it :P

It saves you the time after the trial , All you really have to do is cancel right after creating your account if you don't want to be billed .

If they screw over people with WAR, like Funcom did AoC, I will find plenty of names for them.

But as far as I know, WAR is a kickass game. I'm in a multi-gaming guild, and there are people with running AoC subs playing WAR beta instead of AoC.

If so many people are excited to play WAR , Why aren't they playing DAOC now ? It's a good game , With outdated graphics, the game play is top notch though.

Arguably they already did however, Hyping content for months then ripping it out after people have pre-ordered isn't much different .

No, I'm pretty sure that CoH/V doesn't make you pay, I've done the trial 3 times, and it's never asked for billing info.

Perhaps you are misunderstanding them a little. When I tried a EQ1 trial many years ago I had to include my billing info but they never charged me anything, I only did that played my 14 day trial and that was it. By the end of it it changed to inactive or something like that but no payment was required.

It was the same for Second Life and when I tried to play WoW but I couldnt play both of those because I wasnt given allowed by my parents to use the credit card for that.

You can try it anyway and cancel it if it really is the way you understand it to be.

Just a suggestion, don't eat me alive with other posts. And I havent tried any P2P new generation MMO so I dont know if it changed, I only play GW and those free ones, still a credit cardless young man with no income beside $20 weekly for gas and eating.

That's correct. I been playing CoX since release off and on, done many trials creating new accounts to do so. NEVER had to enter CC info. They lie. Unless it changed in the last month or so.

So..you have to pay for the trial, then enter your billing info for the trial. Two strikes...

I buy timecards. They always have three codes for a few NCsoft games. I play till the time runs out or I get bored, then use the codes to play free to see if I wanna pay again later. I always make a bum email, create an account and go. Just have to patch usually.

If it's pre-existing, they would already have your CC info, no?

Back in the day just about every trial required a CC EQ, SWG , UO etc....Most have changed now though , I remember reading a mythic FAQ years ago about why they required CC info , Basically they said they only wanted people with an interest in becoming subscribers.
