Not sure if it is just me but with all the new and cool graphics (which are great) seem to be taking away from the depth of a game and they seem to be going down hill mindless point and click hack/slash
I still like breaking out the pen and paper and mapping new lands or figuring out puzzles in order to solve a quest. Not just go and kill X amount of Y and come back to collect reward.
I found couple less graphical games year or 2 back that allowed you to buy land and build houses create items and sell them. along with going out doing quests wish I could remember the names.
MUDD's should make a come back for us old time RPGers. Nothing like using your imagination having to remember where you are..
Unless someone can point out a game that has graphics and is in depth with challenging puzzles to solve quests other than killing.. I am on my own quest to find a game that is rich with content rather than graphics..

Drop me a PM if you ever find a game with decent game-play made after 2000.
I'm just as lost as you are.
you can do a search for 'mudlist' and find a ton of muds still out there. I tried to get all nostalgic a couple times, but after about 30 mins of playing, I tend to remember how much I hate writing down e-e-s-w-se-e-n-n-e-s-s-sw-sw-se-e-se-e-s-e-s-e-n-n-n- just to keep track of how to get to town. I'd probably be much happier if they added rudimentary 2d browser graphics and some clickable /command shortcuts.
Everquest 2 isn't filled with the type you find in World of Warcraft.
It has depth, lots of quest, graphics are still pretty decent (even if its showing its age) and the community is amazing.
lol me too please thanks
I lost all hopes in RPG after FF8 came out
Comparing an MMORPG to an RPG is foolish.
He did say he is a old time RPG player tho
back to topic, there is only one kind of MMO imho, and is grind. Either is exp grind, item grind, pvp rating grind, faction grind. They all big grind fest, if you dont like grinding and like story telling with in depth gameplay, I am sorry to say, MMORPGs are not for you.
If anyone dont agree with me, name one MMO that is not grind in some form or another.
I still play MUDs and MOOs.
You can telnet into BBS's all over that still have these. Or you can play DOOR games like;
LORD
Usurper
BRE
etc... I still get a lot of fun from text based games.
seems like my search is in vain.. guess I will have to break out the old C64 and start up couple old games I use to play on it that were challenging..
Hey man if they bring back Ryzom it may be a good fit for ya! And also there is a DLable trial for the game! I'd give it it shot!
