3 years after relase GW has 2wice as much players than AOC 2 months after release.

    There is no comparison here.

If you're looking for a new game, wait for WAR to come out.

Gw isnt a mmorpg, so that might be a problem for soem gamers, but gw has much more polish that aoc. Gw still has quite a lot of player that still play because all the stuff you acheive in gw1 will unlock stuff in gw2, so many players are trying to beat every thing that can be beaten in the game (takes a while).

Join a guild in a pve alliance ad you'll have no problems finding players to play with. I suggest you look for a guild in the guild wars guru forums.

Get Guild Wars as Guild Wars 2 will be link to it for your characters (notyour actual characters, but the names and the "grandchildren", as its set 250 yearslater)

Unfortunately, Age ofConan was a dissapointment, but Iwill resub in a couple of months to see if its getting better

the doesn't make it not an mmorpg. it makes it different, doesn't exclude it as a mmorpg. everybody's used to seeing it a certain way, so get that as the basis of what it means. it is a rpg and has a lot of people playing at one time on company dedicated servers, and the whole thing is online. therefor mmorpg.

    correct me if I'm wrong

but doesnt Dungeons and Dragons Online have similar limitations?

    The Instance Factor

As I mentioned in my beta impressions, there are no large persistent areas in DDO. Taverns and city zones serve as meeting areas, from which parties of up to 6, or raids of up to 12, depart on instanced dungeon crawls.

Your maths is whack. Guild Wars has 5 million accounts, AoC has what...around 1 million at most?

i would like to point out the concept of free2play and buy2play. free2play is refers to games that can download right off the internet and play without monthly fee. buy2play is a 1 time fee like ps3 games.

back to the topic at hand.

If you want lots of players, get Nightfall and Eye of the North.  the newest content which is where most of the player base is right now.  not so many people play factions right now (except for AB) and very few are playing proph.  there are still some there, but most people are in the most recent expansions.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

you have to own Factions to visit the Factions PVE content and/or to be able to play an Assassin

Eye of the North is an expansion

it requires one of the earlier chapters:    Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall

AB is pvp alliance battles -- typically guild battles

I still see enough people doing Factions PVE missions

    - its not as barren as some of the Prophecies mission outposts

I am playing my way through Prophecies now, I started with nightfall and have since purchased factions and prophecies. I am seeing a pretty good amount of players in prophecies right now in the American districts anyway, not as many people as I have seen when playing NF but a good amount none the less.

There are still many PvE players. PvP is still doing alright too.  Just stick to the American districts and you will be set.

GW2 isn't coming out for quite a while.  Personally I plan to check out a few other games between now and then.

GW > AoC any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

districts are another word for territory

    wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Territory

your account is assigned to a District  (American, Euro, etc)

but you can always switch "on the fly" to the International district

    for lack of better words,

its like choosing to play on an American server or different country in other mmos

    I am quite biased here

Guild Wars is not a MMO like WoW, EQ etc. GW is/was called a CORPG (Cooporative Online Role Playing Game) and technically its an instanced databasedriven game.

The "gameworld" in GW is not a common "persistant" world but instead focused on the individual character.

To some this may sound like a bad or very limited thing but it actually works very well. Examples:

    1. You do not have to wait in line for some monster to respawn just to finish a quest.

    2. IF you cant find a group of human players you can do the quest/mission with henchmen or heroes. (computer controlled characters that make up your team)

    3. You are not "server-locked" - You can team up and do your quest from any territory (worldwide) you choose.

If you choose to join an international guild/alliance you will see the benefit of being able to (as a euro player) see 3 americans in alliance chat asking if someone wants to join their team for a mission and zoom to their district with a mouseclick.

PvP in GW is VERY different from traditional MMO-pvp... Hard to describe but after playing GW for about 3 years I bought Age of Conan because of its promised PvP content. I guess I am just spoiled by GW... Anyway my AoC collectors edition is collecting dust and I am back at playing PvP in GW... Balanced, polished and a lot more skill based. You can even observe other players/guilds pvp-battles ingame!

GW is (still) great for casual players and devoted PvP'ers. Its "buy to play" but after buying the game there is NO monthly fee and the server+client stability is amazing! (Heh - Conan was "Buy to betatest - then pay to play" and the initial "Buy" was more than GW Prophecies+Eotn expansion 1-time fee)

PS: Do yourself a favor - Find a good guild/alliance... Then you will never have problems finding a group

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
    (repeat ad infinitum)

And you informed us about that because...? And to OP - not that he's got answers enough, but still - the game is far from deserted. Also: the major part of all people on the Guild Wars forums will probably enjoy, and play, the game thus their recommendation will lean towards Guild Wars as they are all quite biased.

It is nowhere near deserted, people have just moved on to Factions and Nightfall (look at Lion's Arch, there is practically no one there anymore). You will find plenty of people to play with if you join a good guild and no, most people have not moved on to AoC from GW.

Also, yes, play both GW 1 and 2, as GW 2 benefits the players who have played the other and unlocked lots of skills and titles.

" Limited chat to only your town district, no world chat "

    not true

in guildwars you can chat with anyone that as any of the guildwars chapters.

its the only MMO that u can chat with everyone. no server cap.
