SOE rethinks the server restrictions

steelscoutsteelscout Member UncommonPosts: 103

As Faarwolf said, the concerns noted here have been passed along, and in fact I'm having discussions with people in our marketing and international development departments right now.

Please understand that our intention is not to make Europeans feel that they are being kept apart. We want EverQuest II to offer the best performance and play experience wherever you install it, and for European players that means playing on locally hosted servers. That's simply a matter of Internet connectivity.

We understand that many players want a choice to play on the US servers if they wish, and we're in the process of discussing that topic internally.

We'll pass on more information as it becomes available.

Allmost 800 posts ware posted against this foolish decision in just about 24 hours! Nice to see the community is standing together, and that someone is listening.

  • r1tualr1tual Member Posts: 559

800 posts where 70% of them were by the same 10 people.

Either way it doesnt matter to me. If I can only play on US servers im fine with that. If foreigners can play on the server cool. If I can play on their servers too then fine, if not no big deal.

    Hmm thats still a minority.

Also note that 120 people make up about .00000001% of the everquest community.

  • LacertaLacerta Member Posts: 40

And you think the whole everquest community has account on this EQ2 forum?!

I have no problem with separate servers.  I think that with language and cultural differences, it may be best.  After all, do you really expect the French to do anything to unlock the poor Froglock race?

  • BlackMoonBlackMoon Member Posts: 177

I'm perfectly fine with europeans people playing on the same server. With one restriction. Nothing angers me more than seeing people speak in a foreign language on an english server.

I mean come on! It's an english server, the npc's are all in english.. just speak english! Not spanish or french of german or chinese or any of that crap. And this IMHO definately is not racist, it's called being RESPECTFUL.

There, I said it. As long as English is spoken, I am all for it. ;)

    I meant Everquest 2.

The community is about 300k people on the forums alone I think SOE said. If I had to guess I would bet that Everquest2 will have more people then EQ1 on release.

I'm all for international servers, like UO has. In UO, everyone gets one version of the game and have a choice on what country to play in. From what I have heard from my old german tecaher, she says that most europeans speak english just as well if not better than americans. Language should not be a problem.

HAHAHAH classic!!! image. To me it doesnt really matter of euros play on the US servers but you guys gotta remember something. This game is gonna take a toll on you comps as it is add that to a server not even in your own country mix it all together and you got a not so nice gameplay experience.

Language barriers also take effect as well. Im from the us and its annoying as hell when someone calls me "Chap" or says "Fag" instead of cigerettes. Fag means something totally different in the US... so when someone in my group from the UK says to me... "BRB Fag"... I take that in a bad way and its not ment to be bad its just a language/cultural thing.

IMO Europeans/US/Asia should stay on their own countries servers I mean THATS WHY THEY HAVE SERVERS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY!!!! So they can play with people who share the same intrests and know what a "Fag" means to them and not accidently offend someone.

I think they should offer "international servers" for everyone and then local servers for like US people only, one for british people only, one for german people only etc etc etc.

    That will make everyone happy.

Yes.. I suppose they might as well just put a server in every U.S. state, right?

I hear that. If I want to play with people from across the globe we should be given an optional international server.

Either way not a huge deal, but its not like everyone are perfect roleplayers anyways. Bound to have arguments, confusion and hatred anyways out of character.

Humm, I'm a french canadian, and since there is no canadian server, I should always speak in english because SOE isn't bright enough to make a french server?

I don't think so. I'm bilingual, but not all of my mates are. I resent you referring to all languages beside english as crap.

Being respectful is about accepting that some people have different culture than yours.

I am all for international servers also BUT there must be order....example:

    1. Whatever country the player is from, that language should be the only language he sees....in other words, if a chinese types "ni hao" it should say " Hello" on english systems. I know its a hassle but hell if I cannot understand them, I will not party/ raid/ group with them, its simply a communication barrier that I do not have to deal with. For all of you that have played Lineage or FFXI, you know what I am speaking of.

    2. I did not know this was a problem until I played Lineage 2. There must be set stern rules against plat farming companies ....especially if chinese are on english servers... Lineage 2 is slam full of adena farmers that are payed to farm adena and ncsoft does nothing.... They will run you out of a zone by the numbers if you disturb them. And if they cannot kill you they will greif you to no end. Now I know Sony has a good reputation for setting and standing by their guidelines and lets hope we will never have to worry about this in EQ2.

Now with the first example it would actually solve alot of problems with the racists that we have playing these games also. A japanese player can speak to an english speaking player and never know the other is from a different country or even speaks a different language because it is all translated in game. If that feature isn't in, I would rather not play on an international type server, been there done that and I do not like it.

I am sure some of you have played on servers with people from Asia ( using them as an example because they have much different playstyle then us) but if you have never played on a server where people cannot understand you and you cant understand them then I really do not think that you have an educated opinion about this matter because you have not dealt with the issues and problems that multiple languages can bring to a RPG scene.

If anything , make so many servers international and others not.... but if the above examples are in place I do not see much of a problem, although I seriously doubt the translation will be implimented seeing how that would be a pain to impliment.

I always liked EQ1, always will even though I havnt played it in some time. I have also grown to love american games and servers since I started playing FFXI and Lineage.

Some people talk to their friends with such words anyway "Yo biatch" "hey sup!" "eh dawg" "hi fag" "sup tw4t" "cya nobhead". If you take those as offensive then thats arrogant on your part.

People all over the world have different talking slangs in every country. Londoners have different slangs to people in Manchester. Alabamaians have different slangs to people in California. What is the remedy here? Put a EQ2 server in every area of every country just because such areas dont talk the same slang?

If you take offense to such simple words then you really do need to mature up. Locking yourself away into little personal worlds isnt the answer, people that take offense to such minor behaviour will always cause bad atmospheres in any community. That said, every community has it in every country of the world, the Yob element.

You are my hero. I completely agree. If someone says hey fag in a joking matter and you run off and whine about it is the most sissy thing i have ever heard. Me and my buddies swear at each other all the time but we dont get all up tight. I think its just very whiney.
