New game, sci-fi or futuristic (lots of info inside.. lots of requirements :-p)

Ive been playing MMO's since EQ1 pretty much, varied my games abit, also had various amounts of time avalible for playing throughout the years, like most others I guess.

Right now, im just doing some random CoD4 with a m8 and sometimes my bro, although I miss the lack of character development tbh.

I work, but I still have anything from 0-5 hours of time, depending on what other stuff I got going, but I cant get into a time-heavy game, IE endgame in some of the more popular MMO's.

  • Some games ive played:
  • EQ1
  • AO
  • DAOC
  • EQ2
  • EVE
  • WOW

I have been periodically quiting wow stoping for good about a year ago, simply tired with the game, to much gear-requirement and the "you hafto play for X hours per day or its no point"-attitude.

I liked EQ2, but didnt play with anyone (no m8's who fancied eq generally) so it got a bit boring, im a pretty social player, I havent played a single-playergame for years now I think.

EVE was not my cup either, to booring with all the long flight-paths, the skillsystem was IMO idiotic (the IRL-days thing) etc, and the ganking-concept with FFA loot, all in all I liked the interface and game-idea, but the actual product blew me off.

Now, im hoping to find some kind of sci-fi/futuristic MMO, im just tired of elf's and dwarf's TBH.

My "perfect" game would be something similiar to Freelancer where you develop a character and ship simultaniously sortoff, with some kindof mutant (the old book-rpg)/fallout world place to roam in aswell. Not that I think anything like that is around/comming soon, just to give you an idea what im kindof looking for.

What I liked in wow was that it could be pretty hectic. the "smash all the keys at once"-syndrome, its just fun to be involved!

Not: I tried Age of Conan aswell, both me and my bro bought the CE'box. thinking it would be great, I think I "tried" to like it for 2-3 weeks then just CBA and threw it away. I dont know, I just think it was a very bad game with 0 freedom in character development etc etc.

Have found some similiar posts but cant say any of the game's ive checked in the "hype-list" or the mmo-list here is exactly what im looking for.

Perhaps ill try Tabula Rasa, but didnt feel like it was what I wanted from some readin, but then again I dont think you can really get the hang of a game, without trying.

But any suggestions of games comming soon would be nice, I havent really had the time to keep track of things like that recently, to busy with other stuff and francly I think the MMOdevelopment has kinda gon downwards mostly, to many making half-assed games.

Sidenote: I got a stable gamingrig so preformance aint a problem, some am2 6400, 8800gts(or gtx I dont know..) 4gb ram etc.

Perhaps switching to a laptop permanently soon but then ill get as much preformance as I can (almost.. dont like 17" 10gb lapies), probably a 2.8Ghz Core2Duo with 9800m gts 512ddr, think that should handle most games (without everything at max/1680 etc ofcourse).

Long post, I tend to overwrite, but then again im having morningcoffe + being bored, and ive really been looking for some evening entertainment for a while now and came up deadly! Givf tips!

Edit:

Me = 25 years old, working, also got my own little semi-hobby bussiness on the side, so I dont have loads of time around, but Im perfectly willing to spend anything from 10-50$ a month for a very good game, if it is, a _very good game_.

Try City of Heroes/Villains. I play it and it's great. It may not seem like sci-fi but it is. It takes place is the neartime future. The game's backstory is about an alien invasion from the alien race known as the Rikti. They came to Paragon City and tried to invade Earth but the heroes stopped them. There is a zone where you go to the crash site of their mothership. It is very sci-fi. The game also mixes in fantasy elements here and there. I love it because it has the best balance. I cannot stand fantasy MMOs because of their repetition. In every game it's the same thing: Dwarf Paladin, Human Mage, etc. City of Heroes blends all aspects of games and does it perfectly. There is even an acient Roman zone called Cimerora. You travel back in time (yes the game has time travel, definitely sci-fi) to an acient Roman city and fight gladiators and the Minotaur and such. It's a lot of fun.

The game has the BEST community in any game ever. Today, a popular Supergroup (guild) on the Freedom server celebrated their 4th year anniversary. They had a Simon Says contest (CoX has a robust choice of emotes) and I actually won. Then they had a Deal or No Deal event. I was the contestant. Because of the game's amazing character creation system, the members of the SG made identical female toons that held up numbered cards as cases and an almost indentical Howie. It was a lot of fun and I won 2,000,000 influence (money).

Okay, to end my rant, City of Heroes/Villains is one of the best MMOs out there. It is so unique and so easy to play that it will have you hooked after the first couple of days. If you do want to try the game I would be more than happy to help you. You could try the trial (though limitations are strict) and I'd be happy to help you learn the basics of the game. If you are interested, repost on this thread or email me at familyguyfan505@aim.com

I hope my advice has helped!

I was actually just thinking about that today. I was searching for MMOs like what you had described and the closest i got was your post. I really think the time has come for a futuristic/science fiction rpg. I really love being able to customize cars and characters in games, and I can only imagine what that would be like in a futuristic city-like setting. Imagine a completely free environment that you can build a ship or flying car and take off into the skies. Soaring over and through clouds and possibly even into space. I can also only imagine the nightmares coders would have to go through to put something like this together. Plain and simple, it would be awesome.

If you find one let me know please =)   I love the dragons and dwarfs and knights things though I could do without the gnomes =)  I really do not care what genre it falls in as long as the game is fun and engaging to play.  And yes CoH and CoV was fun to play and now I hear that they have joined the two together and make for a better game.  I might have to try to get my old account back and see if I can get my old characters going.

I had just made a post about a new game as well and it seems like my and the OP are in the same boat pretty much.  Though I am 34 years old =)  Would be really nice to find a great game again.  And as for the first reply.  I remember when I went back after the beta and got a trail account that the community was really great.  People did not mind answering questions or lending a hand.  It was really nice.  I just do not remember much about how poeple group in that game.  I like to group a lot and be social and interactive.  Maybe I will have to try that one again.

If you use "plz" because it is shorter than "please" I will use "no" because it is shorter than "yes."

    Thanks for the replies!

First I thought it was a dead shot in the water since nothing happened in 24-hours, which is pretty much an eternity in forum-world.

It seems ive found the reason that there is no "obvious" choice, so my searches hasnt been fubar atleast. On a philosophical side of it, its weird. Seriously, most guys I play/played with would pay alot of dough for a game with similiar criterias, as sci-fi/futuristic, more "serious" if that works for a game (and I dont mean the 8-10 hours per day of "hardcore" as serious).

No game ive looked in has similiar aspects, yet, alot of people seem to want it. Perhaps its a catch of FOTM amongst the game companies? What works sells, what sells pays the bills...

I will try the city of villians/heroes out, I seriously thought it was a completely silly/pointless game before I read the suggestion, but then again I havent even seen a trailer and nothing close to ingame vid's/screenshots, I just based my oppinion about the game over the name  (cmon it sounds kindof immature/silly :p).

Ill check it out, give it a go and see what its all about. And lets pray for a proper game to be released :)

City of Heroes/Villains is FAR from immature. The game has one of the most mature communities I've ever experienced in any MMO. That's why I'm on these LFGame forums to try and change people's opinions of the game. Glad you are willing to give it a try!

If I were you I would try Planetside. Sounds perfect for your playstyle and it really is a great game. (13 bucks a month)

Tabula Rasa was a lot of fun for the first few levels. After hitting the 30s, leveling slowed down, game got harder, less polished. I had trouble soloing my quests, maybe because i sucked or because they required grouping, point is i quit around then.

My personal sci-fi game has always been CoH. Was my first MMOG too.
