"These will be gigantic battles, and we are aiming for over 300 players to be involved in the battle simultaneously!"
taking bets on when this will be ready. Was due to come out in the weeks following the huge June content expansion - pvp, new zone etc etc
Which all goes to prove the old political adage.. if people are getting upset with your lack of follow-through, just keep on promising EVEN more.

from mid -June
Legendary battlekeeps
Already in the game your guild have the opportunity to build player cities and eventually also conquer battlekeeps. We will, of course, be improving these functionalities as well as we move ahead in the coming months. Kingship will also expand on this feature.
Situated next to the three big cities – Conarch, Khemi and Tarantia – will be something called legendary battlekeeps. Massive constructions that can be seen from inside the major cities themselves, and there will only be three of these in total in the online world – one for each capitol city. Conquering these battlekeeps will be the ultimate challenge!
Guilds will effectively have to team up with each other and become alliances if they want to have any chance of conquering a legendary battlekeep. These will be gigantic battles, and we are aiming for over 300 players to be involved in the battle simultaneously!
That also means we will be doing some technical improvements to the massive battle system to allow for this great number of players in one battle at the same time.
Wonders of the World
These battlekeeps will all have different benefits to provide the alliance that owns it, and they will all be visually very different from each other. You can customize and build upon your legendary battlekeep, just as you would with the “ordinary” battlekeeps.
Another feature we will be introducing with this upgrade is Wonders of the World. These are powerful constructions rooted deep in the identity of that nation (e.g. the “Golden Lion of Tarantia” for Aquilonia) and they look epic and magnificent. Each nation has two of these wonders, and they can be built in the legendary battlekeep for that nation.
Building these wonders is a huge effort for anyone in the alliance, and will involve a lot of team work. Once you have built the shell of the wonder in your legendary battlekeep, other guild alliances can steal it and bring it to their city – so you need to protect it!
The benefits of owning one, two or more of these wonders (can you steal all of them?) is beyond anything you can imagine, but those details are to be revealed at another time!

sounds like Lineage2 castle sieges, cept in a game that limits most fights to less than a 3rd of the promised number right there.
call me a troll but yeah... sounds like total BS, does funcom even hear what they say anymore?
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Unreal,I mean instead of approaching the problems why ppl quit the game they send out this sort of crap,I have an idea why dont you add the content and quests level 50+ instead of saying 300 battle's and i did laugh when I read "Guilds will have to effectively group up" yeah no kidding when ppl are still leaving in there drone's,it will end up taking 10 guilds to get those numbers,if your lucky.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

during June, Funcom was pumping out alot info about coming features
I didnt see many announcements during July
I hope Funcom learned from announcing too much (without delivering)

They may have to have some of those 300 being operated by Devs. Each day that goes by and another broken "promise" shows its head makes it just that much more difficult.
Ona side note my sub ran out but oh how i wish it was active. The fanboys are all excited today over at the AOC forums.
Fungerer som det skal
Anyone who has played AoC and participated in a PVP battle with over 20 people knows that this game will never be able to handle 300 people. Saying otherwise is a lie, plain and simple. Maybe if they add a newer fog effect that limits your view to like 5 meters in front of you, it MIGHT work. But nah, I don't ever see that happening. If 300 people on-screen was possible, then a good test for this would be to remove the instances somewhere and see how the game runs with everyone in one instance.
What if 260 were NPC's? lol. Im trying to get into the FC PR machines head

Actually what you just said brings up another point - what if 50-100 of the 300 people were Necro's? You'd have 300 people and 500 minions. Which would bring you down to a high of -1 fps.
It's interesting though... no matter how fast they ban, many more stand up to attack the game.
I guess forums will always be magnets for flame wars.. . But I would have thought that with their instant ban stick overdrive and recent departures they would have removed more of the attackers. It seems it's too big a task. The forums are as angry and fesity as ever.
Yeah it sounds like a pipedream to me....i hear alot of players complaining that they are lagging badly with just a couple of people around.....It sounds like desperate measures to try and keep their current subscribers from leaving.

Well of course! It's like a stream turning into a mighty river. Even people who support the game can get angry over Soviet style banning and censorship (which is how alot of people see it). It's like trying to wish the problems away. The best thing to do is actually ignore them and focus all your energy on fixing the problems they're complaining about, not try to ban them all and promising them things that, most likely, won't come.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
"Order or odor. I choose Order!"
and where do you stand on Ordure?
I am shocked... theres 300 people at end game?
I don't think this will be added till next year. If 300 people are going to be on screen at once then this game will need a TON of optimizations by then just for the HIGH END systems. I can only run 24 man raid instance dungeons with all particles turned off with barely 15 frames per second. I don't think i'm the only one in that boat either.
Good point about the necros....that would be an interesting sight to see. But are there even 300 people in one instance currently? And those still crash.
WOW what games this, im playing aoc and its not delivering im looking for something that will play like it says it will. ROFL
This info is forthcoming, its due in the short term, just like the PvP system which will be on us in the next few weeks.
The only thing mentioned in that statement that should of been there at launch is the amount of players, everything else is Extra.
Following on from feedback they want the get this done right such as the Fugitive system, (another extra) and thus its behind schedule slightly.
My guess would be everything in the newsletter you just read will be here by end of September, with somethings before others.
The newsletter which was released less that a month after release was there to let people know whats coming.
I mean there have been more important things to do first.
PS. You on a mission today OP?
Fugitive system may be an extra but according to this 05/28 article, Bounty system was designed for launch
www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php
According to Jason Stone on today's MMO Report, he's designed this very elaborate "prison system" that is AoC's take on anti-griefing, and it will be implemented fairly soon because it's essentially done and was part of the "launch plan" for the game.

300 People my ass. This game will bog down with 60+ people. FC is really pulling more crap out of their ass these days to save face. Sure they can try and implement this but all their doing is digging their grave even more.
Hey AmazingAvery, Im humming the Tune to Amazing Grace join in with me will sing it together. How sweet thou are, Amazing Grace Funcom's never gonna have 300 player seig battles but you and i can still sing Amazing Grace.
MAGA
But the engine can't handle 48 x 48 so I hear.
Wouldn't htis require a complete overhaul of the engine? Even if they could optimize up the wazoo, this engine wouldn't handle it, would it?
They addressed the feasablity of it and they seem to have a plan, we should wait and see before making any positive or negative assumptions.
Actually it can, and run stable, far from perfect at the moment, but its playable.
The "i hear " part is old news, guess what some of Funcoms patching did work.. some of it is yet to come.
The engine was AO's and overhauled, big time, how many people on a screen in AO?

Lol, grasping bigtime. AOCs graphics AOs graphics, i thnk you can figure out the rest. The game will never be able to handle 300 people and be fun and playable.
I don't think it's fair to compare the capabilities of the AO and the AoC engine. Although AoC was derived from AO, the later was not using 3D graphics at all (directX 7) and was able to handle (if my memory does not deceive me) 200 people per zone cluster. That's a lot more people than AoC in the days where the major bottleneck was not the graphics power, but the limitations of the internet (broadband was just making the first baby steps).
Bottom line, AO back in the days could handle more than 300 people PvPing in one specific area, all visible to each other, but the strain to the internet lines was so big that led to frequent disconnects.
For the record, at this point I'm so tired of fantasy, I just wish Funcom would hurry and updated AO to today's standards. Seems unlikely at this point, since they rely heavily to AoC for their survival.

Self delusion at its finest.
I don't see 300 ever happening for this game.
After trying sieges out, I don't see this happening, ever. When 48 vs 48 was under 10 FPS the entire time, I can't imagine ever seeing triple the amount of players with even better performance.
If I'm wrong, than I'll be happy to be proven wrong. However... forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical of Funcom's technical wizardry at this point.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
