Vanguard or WoW?

sanders01sanders01 Member Posts: 1,357

So I've been thinking lately, I want to get back into the PVE raiding scene and maybe dabble in PvP, and thought, Vanguard or WoW? I've played WoW, got 70, raided and pvp and loved it, it was only till my account got banned that I quit. I've never played Vanguard, but wanting to try the trial, but it seems like a nice game, or it seems better than people said it was at launch.

Here are a few things im looking for:

- Good PVE endgame raiding

-Some pve, but not compeltely needed

-A nice community

-Enough pop. to keep me on more than 1-5 hours at a time when im max level

-Flying mounts?

And last but not least, a rogue like class.

Does Vanguard has this? Or should I just go back to the prison that is WoW.

If you want PVE raiding scene and a bit of PvP, just forget Vanguard now...

... Vanguard only has one real raid dungeon, even Age of Conan has more raid content.

Dont get me wrong, I do belive Vanguard can be a great PvE game, but for what you are looking for, Everquest 2 ( on a PvP server ) and WoW are the best options.

I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for in Vanguard...

-Not much in the way of "endgame raiding"

    -Plenty of PVE

-Community is a not great.  Tend to be a bit eliteist more so than immature.  Not the best but certainly not the worst.

-Population is crap.  Might be getting better but not good at all.

    -Yes they have flying mounts.

-Yes they have a Rogue class.  Which I found quite fun to play.  However it's not a very "solo" friendly class.

Best I could tell you is give the trial a shot.  Only you can decide if it's your cup of tea.

The raid is huge though and I don't think anyones been through it all yet so I mean, what more do you want? All the dungeons are huge and awesome. Population is low but not where you wouldn't be able to play whenever you wanted. Rogue class is not very solo friendly but that's the only classes like that I think.

But it sounds to me you really only know WoW and you aren't going to like a game that isn't WoW.

IE. Need a rogue class, need end game raids... you're basically saying "I want WoW 2.0 because I'm bored of WoW but I want exactly the same thing" and if that is the case, I'd play LOTRO because Vanguard is far from WoW.

Eh you are right, tried LOTRO for about 2 weeks, just wasn't my thing. But if I may ask, what are some solo classes in Vanguard?

    EbonHawk

The main issue is, he cant experience Vanguard endgame/raid with a trial, anyway, today Vanguar´s endgame is very, very limited.

    Op

If you want raid, I think the best choice is Everquest 2, a lot of raids, a lot of raidguilds to join and the encounters are usually a very good challenge.

Everquest 2 has 3 rogues, swashbuckler, brigand and assassin, all of them have a major role in raids as dpsers and debuffers.

Rogue in Vanguard is pretty fun, not a good soloer but a good dps, but rogues in EQ2 are totally balanced and focused for raids.

Beside EQ2 , WoW and older games, I dont think you have much options for what you are looking for.

So I should just sub it up with EQ II so I can keep all the expansions for free and try it? (I'm on the Living Legacy Promotion.)

I personally thought most of the classes you could solo fairly well with.  But if I had to say one of the best would be either Shaman (Bear Build) or Cleric.  The cleric can take a beating and dish it out as well.

    Cereo

Do you really think just ONE raid is enough for someone that enjoy raiding?

Sure, APW is huge, but Everquest 2 ( and some others expanded PvE games ) have more than 20x more huge Raid dungeons.

    Op

Really, if you want to experience a game for what you are looking for, Vanguard would need at least 2 more years if you take the fact the game only got one raid dungeons after almost 2 years.

If you are into the LLP you already have all the expansions.

But try all these games, it is hard to tell wich one you will like, the only thing I can say is that EQ2 is the most raid oriented from all these games... But I bet it is easier to find raid groups in WoW, in EQ2 you would need to enter a guild to really experience this side of the game.

Given you already played WoW to cap... EQ2.  By the time you find your favoured class, cap out and raid like crazy, WotLK will be launched and you can make the call then which to continue with.

VG as stated had very limited raiding content and pop, when I played it it was more about combat and old school feel than content.

I'd advice u to w8t until this winter... If u are lucky though u may get a trail key and try Vanguard. I'm also wlling to try Vanguard but have been kind of discouraged by the rumors around of this game. It really looks promising but unfortunately i can't take the risk(waisted enough money on crappy games already).

    Dont know about u....

  • sanders01sanders01 Member Posts: 1,357

Aye I've wasted enough time and money on crappy games also, Does anoyone know about DnD online? Is it any good?

I picked up VG for 5$ on ebay, so its not like its a huge investment, just try it out.

Me personally, i didnt like the game, i played a few chars up to lvl 10 ( i know thats not high enough) but i didnt like the feeling of the game.  Actually, i had the exact same thing with WoW, played it for a few hours, decided it wasnt my thing.

We'll getting ready to try EQ II and Vanguard, if anyone else would like to contribute to why I should play one over the other, say it now while I'm still patching :)

    1. Vanguard: Complete freedom - Depending of your action game can be great fun or boring till death, piece of cacke or die hard. Its very community oriented, if you rely on it, it become much more fun. Just ask in chat or guild what and how to do it and life will be much more easy for you.

    2. WoW: Progression: If you just want to get fun while almost do not depend from others WoW is for you. Just do not ask yourself for details and everything will be ok. Worst community and most singleplay oriented MMO up to now.

Many guilds finished APW 6 months ago and have been waiting for new content.  Unfortunately only 3 guilds are still left in the game that have beaten Kotasoth.

APW is a fine starting raid dungeon.  Its not complex, but it is big and a good start.  The problem is SOE is simply not funding new content.  The dev team is so small they can only work on one thing at a time.

In Regards to the OPs question Vanguard is worth tgrying.  yes there is a rogue class and its worth playing.  There are flying mounts and the Griffon quest is a ver y well done questline.

The combat systema nd classes in vanguard are both the best by far of any MMO on the market.  But the bug problem here is SOE they have done almost nothing since they took over in May of 2008 except get rid of 90% of the dev team.  Hopefully one day they will wake up and realise what a gem they have in Vanguard and start funding it.

Well sanders, I've been around many MMOs and seem to like the best in everything, but I will tell you that Vanguard is the way to go.

It not only has everything you are looking for, but it has many features that WoW lacks.

The community is NOT hostile at all, as they are very friendly, and most are very mature, fun-loving adults and kids (in my experiences since beta).

Vanguard has freedom, a world, fun questing, a great community, housing, a very interesting concept, and a cool system. Also, I'm not sure if WoW had this, but there are many unique class-specific skills in Vanguard, an incredible crafting system (an actual skill), diplomatics (an actual skill), harvesting (an actual skill), and you can even make and/or sail your own boat in the enourmous seas of Vanguard, going from continent to continent all by yourself (or if you don't have one, NPCs can sail you).

As with all that (flying mounts and rogue class too), it does not however have some things that WoW has. World of Warcraft has a prime level of addiction and simplicity -- which definately packs it in there for many gamers -- and probably (I have not seen it) better customer service than SOE. I found, however, that I only had fun when I was playing it with my friend, and other that I realized that the community was horrible. While they had some definate endgame stuff, I felt like I was only in it because I was beckoned by the company instead of the game itself -- sort of like trying out an old MMO like AO or UO, but end up playing for hours or days even though you know that "something's not right".

Vanguard is a definitive refresher when it comes to graphics & world/people/lore beauty, and along with what I've listed, there's plenty to do and roleplay as far as self-character goes is boosted to an extreme level of fun!

    Anywho...

While I no longer play it as of earlier this year due to better games out there, I would certainly prefer playing it again over playing World of Warcraft again.

Better games out there? Pfft :P This game sounds like it would rock if SOE would pump some cash in it, instead of just making a new game.

IMO, Tabula Rasa is more fun :)

Hey man... I've been tryn Lords of the Ring Online these days... It's really a good game. Stable and user friendly. The graphics too ain't bad at all(it has some Directx 10 Functions). The PvE is really well made and the PvP is fun(it's a great way to get distracted for sometime while maybe w8n for a Raid Group)

If u still got some money left i'd afvice u to buy this game. It's very cheap... And i don't think it'd be a w8st of money.

I voted for Everquest 2.  Trying something new is always fun.  As far as i can tell, the game is more populated, polished, and content filled then vanguard.  But hey, why not try them both.

  • slythsslyths Member UncommonPosts: 209

Yeah i did the same thing too. I played it for the first month and went away. I reactivated my account yesterday and i'm enjoyin it so far

Man you suck :P You made me just resub to LOTRO which may be the stupidest thing I've done in a while.
