Dear brothers and sisters of Atys,

In order to keep you informed of what is going on with the new team of artisans working hard in the shadows, we wanted to first tell you that we are really very happy and very proud to work, and for some of us - work again, on the magical world of Ryzom.

The way they put it, it kind of sounds like there won't be a wipe.. doh

Maybe they will have a new shard

It sounds like they're letting the veterans back in as part of a stress/Post-release beta test. Once they're sure all the systems are ready they'll open it back up to everyone else. If a problem's appeared that only relates to greatly experienced characters it's best to have an existing high-level character find it before letting the general public back in.

Makes sense to me. I just demand one of y'all let my fledgling Matis into your guild. (muh-TISS? MAT-iss? May-TEE?)

Maybe one of you people who's accounts work on the ryzom forums can pose the question to them in that thread as to what the plans are as far as wipes and/or new fresh start shards go?

  • MaDSaMMaDSaM Member Posts: 627

    Answer:

    Definitely NO wipe.

    Sorry for you.

I dont see that in the french or english forum (I can read, if not logged in, else i get access denied for even just viewing the forums, oddly enough)

Anyway no fresh start is unfortunate from my point of view.. It wasn't very fun when I played on mainland with the world as it was at the time.. oh well..

  • CyntheCynthe Member UncommonPosts: 1,414

Why the heck would a wipe alter that perception? It won't change the game mechanics, it'll just wipe Ryzom's history. It won't make everyone at an equal level, if you believe that you haven't rolled and rerolled in MMOs very often... Knowledge trumps all that, see the other thread where it's discussed.

I never got a chance to play Ryzom before the servers shutdown but I hear sooo much good about it that I now feel the need to at least check it out. I remember I decided to try out the game on the very day the servers actually shut down, downloaded the demo and was never able to play. I really hope they have the demo available again when they start to allow us newcomers in so I can finally experience the game I hear soo many great things about.

Hope to see you all very soon! :)

    /cheers!

If this game comes back, I will do what I failed to do in the past: support it.

You saying that what I find fun to do in an mmo is up for discussion? Tssk. Anyway I have played dozens of mmos and know what I want out of them, and have played ryzom and know what it didn't supply me with. The game mechanics were quite fun, the empty lowbie lands and the typical "oh well go latch on to some high endgamers if you want to have community" line doesnt work for me. I much prefer being a part of the initial history of a world, not messing around in the last throws of it while all the endgamers flex their muscles out in the dangerous areas.

Of course you don't want to lose your precious history.. that'd mean you'd have to start from 0 like everyone else and who'd want that :p

Anyway I repeat: my tastes are not up for discussion. All I said was that it was unfortunate, i was hoping for that possibility and its apparently not there. All that means is that there'll probably be one less player, doesnt change anything for any of you, so relax.. you are not being a good example of the vaunted superior community we hear about ;)

I personally would like to start on a fresh server since I never got a chance to play before the servers went offline. Perhaps the new owners could just bring back all the old-timers on a server as well as open a brand new server for anyone who wants to start fresh. Seems like it would satisfy both player bases eh?

  • randomtrandomt Member UncommonPosts: 1,220

Yea.. that is what I am still hoping they do, although I am not sure if there will be a large enough following to populate a new server, unless some of the old timers decide that they too would like to have a hand in creating a new history

  • CyntheCynthe Member UncommonPosts: 1,414

Are you sure you're replying to me? I don't think you are, I'm not one of the elders of the game in any way, I just played a bit before and loved it. If you don't want to discuss you have no business in a forum.

Also wiping just to make you feel better isn't going to make Ryzom a different game or take away the l33tness of high level characters, even at level 1 they still know things that will make them level faster and better then you. You don't seem to grasp that however you feel about it there is no real benefit for a wipe.

The way you characterize the Ryzom player base, I don't think you really got to know anyone that well? No matter how high someone is they always have time for the little people. I've never experienced flexing of high level muscles in this game, ever.

EDIT: There was a new server, it was called Cho, that's where I rolled as a new player to experience the 'newness', it was underpopulated, some people had moved there for a fresh start but I'm unsure of how successful that was... Someone who did it would know better. It was merged back with the original English server. So a repeat of that is probably unlikely. Though one never knows.

Oh and another thing, I will start a new character as well, but I won't wish to force it on anyone else.

  • randomtrandomt Member UncommonPosts: 1,220

It's not about who can rush to higher levels the fastest, its about building a history from scratch.

That's the thing, I dont want to play a game where your option is to do your own thing or take part in hand holding from elders who've been there, done that.. I want a clean slate. The flexing the muscle thing is just a figure of speech.

And no, my personal tastes are not up for discussion, they are my personal tastes :D

Then get out of the forums, seriously chaps me when people try to win the internets with this nonsense reply, if you don't want your tastes, choices and feelings discussed then simply don't bring them up. As much as I can't make you feel a certain way, you can't tell me not to comment on something you said.

Anyway, nothing stops you from building your own story, while letting others continue theirs?

I have a feeling that there will be quite a few new players this time around, including me.  I fooled around on the trial island but never actually subbed.  Im looking forward to when Ryzom opens up again.

Ryzom was a fun game from what I could tell and what I have heard.  You can still play and have a good time, regardless if you aren't part of the "history" or whatever.  Ive started quite a few games from their beginning and it really isnt that big of a deal.

If it really is that important to you, whats the harm in having fun in a great sandbox game while you wait for whatever game coming in the future you can be part of the "history" of?

And even if there was a wipe, the vet players would likely roll a character with their old name and continue with their old guilds and relationships which would still leave you alone :).  So  a wipe wouldnt really help anyone.

  • GilgameeshGilgameesh Member UncommonPosts: 412

randomt, i can understand your frustration despite me and most of the ryzom community really feel different in this situation.

Personally when i play a game, i don't care anything but the fun i can have in it.

I hope you can find some fun time in Ryzom and sure you'll be always welcomed in Atys, wipe or not wipe.

If not, you'll find some new game around where you can start fresh and make what you speech "history".

Anyway, I assure you that Ryzom is a dynamic world and there are many (prolly the most) that joined the game well much after the beginning, and actually they have made history and changed the world, regardless of the elders.

It all depends by you, not by the game you play.

Geez, get out of bed on the wrong side this morning or what? If you dont like what I have to say, dont post in my thread, simple yes? Seriously.

Why are you still trying to convince me that my tastes in gaming are wrong?

As for the other posters.. I've played ryzom, I know how it is.. its a great game and lots of fun. The only negative though I had thought about it was the player housing stuff.
And I am not trying to force anyone to lose their old progress or any such thing, I am stating that I would enjoy a fresh start on a new server with no prior history. That is what I, personally, would enjoy. All this aggressiveness from the old timers trying to defend their history is not a very good indication of what the community at the time was.. you guys spent too much time around mmorpg.com communities, I thinks :D

As a side note, I've been gaming for some 25 years or so, starting on a vic 20 then c64, amiga 500 then the pc world... Dont mistake me for one of those new internet user teens.

  • green13green13 Member UncommonPosts: 1,341

It sounds like they've preserved the accounts of players who were sub'ed when the servers went down.

Any indication about former subscribers who weren't?

  • randomtrandomt Member UncommonPosts: 1,220

My understanding is that if the database is intact, all old accounts will exist and be reinstated in their last state

My response was aggressive because the line I quoted might as well have said STFU.  I don't go foruming to keep my opinions to myself so you can expect responses to whatever it is that you are putting on the table. May they be your ideas or how you feel towards something you are still opening the door for people to express how they feel about it themselves. Asking me not to discuss them on a public forum where we discuss things  is odd? And sounds rude in my view.

Starting fresh in this game isn't going to be very fresh, no one can ever erase the events that took place to advance Ryzom's time line, if there would be a wipe it would have been as if those things never happened or happened but the people who were there were no longer really there in this alternate universe. :/  A new server will promote a wild rush to power where people who already played and conquered outposts will do their best to conquer them again before any newbie even has a chance... The freshness of a new start will only last so long before the world settles again. That's what happens to every new server that's made in any established game.

How about fresh new games? How long do they stay fresh and new? Maybe you want to be part of the mad rush to power, then I hope you do get a new server or join a brand new game where you can help shape the world and leave your mark. Notice I chose my words there and see where else you can find them...

Also if I didn't like what you had to say I wouldn't deign reply to you, therefore in fact your post has made me think quite a bit about the virtue of starting on a new server and quite frankly and personally I would agree and be excited to join one, I did go on Cho the last time. I'm not defending a certain side because of my feelings or my personal choices but because of what Ryzom is, a living story ever evolving and changing where people have spent years developing it's story and their own, and where these stories live on even though the servers have been down... It's not a matter of personal interest, it's a matter of what Ryzom is. I'm not sure how else to explain that. ^_^

That's more like it, nice and level headed post :]

The thing about a fresh start isnt about a rush to power or anything like that, its just a desire to replicate the initial launch of the game which I missed, and the building of a new story from the start, which I suppose does include the initial burst outward to conquer territory and whatnot from the more hardcore people..

A new server in parallel with the old ones would work out nicely, since then those old school people and their pre-established alliances/story/etc can go return to their own story, and we would have our own people with our own story, unrelated to anything that has happened before.

We could establish our own economy, our own friendships and alliances, our own legends and all that fun stuff. As if the game just launched.

We'll see if they put a fresh shard up for those of us who dont want to go back to the same old same old :] Lot's of people have been posting about having an interest in the game, I assume after having done the rounds of your average clone mmos and finding them unsatisfying.. perhaps enough for a new one.
