I was just thinking with the debacle of AOC and other recent MMOs , would it not be better to delay the release and add the promised content.
This is an MMO suposedly an endless world offering longevity / community and fun, so why are they cutting content. This just appears to be another money spinner with no heart .... am i wrong ?

I think so.. Have no high hopes so will probably be safe from my end. Have lots of irl friends to play with so dosent really matter. As long as you have a bunch of merry men, anythings good
WAR has been delayed before, they won't do it again. A game can only be in development for so long before the publisher kicks them out the door. There is no money being generated while a game is in development so its either sink or swim when it comes down to it.

Yes a shame really...
Another Money Spinner with no heart? Lets put aside that this is WAR. Lets put the situation as if its some other company. Gaming or not.
They need money. They need their product to be released in a timely manner. Now somethings are going to be left out. And instead of just saying everything is working as intended and everything will be included. They announce that something will not be in such product at first purchase.
But at a later date and time you can get these other features free of cost. And they do it so anyone who pre-ordered such product can cancel anytime with out the fear of loosing money.
Does that sound like someone with Money on the brain? To me as a consumer any company willing to tell you its faults and things wrong with their product and how to fix/ will get it later for free is a good company to trust.
Weather this game is good or not is completely different. But questioning their business ethics of customer honesty is completely out of line. Theres two things your questioning here game play and customer honesty. They are honest, is the game fun? Only you can decide if it is fun for you, but you will not know till it is out.
(Fixed that p in supposedly for ya)
I do have kind of high hopes for this game, but with the release of recent videos I'm trying to shy away from it and look for an alternative. I like the ideas they had when they first started announcing the game, with the RVR and Tome of Knowledge and what not, but the combat that I've seen just looks rather boring and dry. I was hoping they would fix it after the first delay, but it doesn't seem like any changes are being made, sadly.
Lots of people will be let down by the game, thats a given. But that doesn't mean its a bad game, even if its just a so-so game with better than average, then plenty will be more than happy with it.
I personally think WAR will turn out better than average, and better better than average if we just look at PvP content. and thats really all I want, a good (not great, not excellent, not perfect) MMO that is PvP based, and I think I'm going to find that in WAR.
So yeah, thats my take on it at least.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Kinda hard to fix something thats completely subjective and completely in the hands of the player making the video. Anyone can log into a game record their session and make it seems like the most boring game in the world by just picking a button or two to mash and walking around. Anyone can also log into a game record their session and through sheer tenacity and will to do whatever possible to win make battles seem interesting and fun.
You can't reliably judge a combat system without any HANDS on Knowledge its just not possible, you can only make assumptions.
The combat looks rather dry and boring? To me it looks like an upgraded DAoC, and this game has been referred to as "DAoC2" by many of the older players. I guess some people enjoy fighting in massive seige battles for keeps and fighting for their realm in order to unlock new content, and others prefer..??? What I'm getting at is, the only ideas that have changed since release are cutting of 4 cities and 4 classes. To me it seems a farily reasonable cost, as Mythic has promised to include the content later on. I don't see how it was ever dry and boring, unless you're playing some virtual reality simulator MMO I'm unaware of. The combat looks no different then any other game's, especially DAoC which is what Mythic was known for. Also the game hasn't even been released, the NDA is still there, and the videos they show are just simple teasers, it's hardly a good look at what the game COULD be.

I have to aggree with Majinash. There will be plenty dissapointed with War. That wont mean its a bad game or that you wont enjoy it. Afterall I would never personally play WoW yet millions do. The key is what you are looking for in a game and does that game meet that standard. For me, what I am looking for in a game seems that it will be met for the most part in War. I personally dont care if they restrict the amount of content that I would have never seen in the first 3 to 6 months of game play regardless. In fact I am excited about the fact that the content I will be playing will be that much better due to the fact the dev teams will be able to focus more of their efforts on that content instead of having to spread their efforts out.
The best example of this in present day MMOS is Vanguard. They had tons of great ideas, they tried to develop tons of content simultaneously and in the end they failed because none of the content was finished and very little of the game was actually ready for release. IF they had focused on a few areas and made them ready for release the game probably would have been a big success and sigil would not have gone bankrupt.
I'll answer your question with a question: What is worse for a company:
A) Having overly lofty goals, coming up short on them (like Age of Conan did), releasing them in that state and being accused of releasing a game half-assed, or:
Cutting the content out and being accused of being unable to carry out your own agenda or watering the game down?
It's no shame to have lofty goals, admit they were perhaps a bit TOO lofty, and scale them back -- the problem is that, in today's understandably cynical MMO community, we look at the cut and go, "OH GOD, HERE WE GO, IT'S DOOMED". And who could blame us for doing that? We're used to it by now.
It doesn't help that expectations are just impossibly high from some people -- this game can't be a WoW-killer, because WoW can't be "uprooted" by one game, or even several. So yeah, inevitably many people will be disappointed.
But that doesn't mean the game will turn out badly, or even poorer than expected.
Um, it's kind of funny when people speculate on things like this, but let's be truthful. EA Mythic does not need money. EA is the parent company and if they have enough cash to continue to buy stock from Take Two and put in offers for that company (you know, the one that makes Grand Theft Auto !?) in excess of 2 billion dollars, I'd think they have more than enough cash to hold the game up six months if they really needed it.
Also, before I get flamed to death on this, I do realize EA Mythic is a subsidiasry orf EA and therefore probably on a different budget. But EA still holds the purse strings and I'm sure if it was really needed they could hold it back if they needed to.
Unfortunately no one knows how it will do until it comes out. It does no use to speculate unless you're actually in the beta and have played the darn game.
AoC cut out classes 5 months before release as well as prestige classes and WoW cut out hero classes. It is very normal for a game to cut classes that aren't working out of beta so I don't see that as 'cutting content'. They put all the instances that were in progress for the other cities into the 2 they have in game right now so in honestly losing the cities isn't cutting any content other than a little variety for city sieges. So this whole concept that they cut a bunch of content is pretty absurd, maybe 1% of the content in the game was cut, 2% tops.
To go back to AOC for a second they actually never finished about 5 -7 zones that were going to be in the game at release(each race was supposed to have it's own zones for each level range), you don't hear about it but they cut way more content than WAR did to get to release. They also were in development longer than WAR has been and they released with half the systems broken. Funcom is just a bad company, no reason to compare Mythic to them and no reason to expect the same shoddy product at release.
Because we probably are doomed. Most companies completely lie out their ass about the game and apparently live on box sales. Now after a series of games over hyping and delivering less when one doesn't over hype they might be setting you up for a big let down.
I can't see that the cut content they have talked about will make the game a dissapointment.. especially one like AoC. There is no justification to delay the game.. if thats an issue for you.. (because it certainly isnt for me) just buy the game later.. simple solution.
What we are worried about is whether there is anything else cut we dont know about.
I highly doubt it though. Why be honest about class/capital cuts but hide something else?
Besides which, funcom already had a bad reputation prior to AoC.. and Mythic have a good rep.
I do not think we will be dissapointed.. but .. watch this space.

The company may lie but the signs are always there with the flow of info from Beta Testers and anyone smart enough to watch all the videos to a game. It was atleast to me apparent they were hiding things with AoC because everytime a video was shown or promoted it was nto a video of actual game play it was scrippted bots & npc's standing around. Thats NOT a good sign at all. The very few actual game play videos we saw were just enough to show you hwo to hit a combo and that was it. All the important stuff was hidden past lvl 20 which is a real damn same AoC could of been a great game.
There have been countless videos in WAR's case showing various aspects of the game working including the dye system, siege weapon system, ToK, player videos from cons, game play videos (it was an event they coordinated but it was still live people playing in one video's case), we've seen video over views of the keeps & fortresses, game play videos of bits n peices of Sieging. These are just the ones the Dev's put out.... there's countless videos proving the game works in the way Mythic has described from leakers as well. IT doesn't meant some people high standards but its exactly what they said it was to those of us paying close attention. There's also little to no videos hightlighting major flaws. I can name several that relate to AoC in its current, open and closed states all things that should of been addressed long before a launch.
Failcom blatantly lied.....Vanguard didn't lie they just fubar'd and they admited it before release that the game was not ready they just had no choice.
Others have already said it here, and I have said it elsewhere ...
WAR will dissapoint a LOT of people ... not because it's a bad game but becuase it will not live up to the game that they have built it up to be in their own minds. And chances are that no game will ever live up to that 'ideal' the same thing happens with movies all the time ... a movie will come along with a lot of hype and then fall flat even though someone watching it that didn't see the hype actually thinks it's a great film.
Games have to release sometime .... well ... except Duke Nuk'em Forever but unless you want WAR to turn into that then it has to release .... Developers can always come up with one more cool thing that they want to add, and thus if allowed the game is never finished.
EVERY MMO (hell I think most computer games in general) has cut content ... EQ, WoW, EQII, Vanguard, DAoC, AO, E&B, SWG, Horizons, SB ... they all, at some point, had to come to the realization that they weren't going to be able to finish everything. Now, yes, some of the ones on that list had issues ... but most of them were successful MMOs ... and some of them can be called 'very successful'

WoW didn't have molten core when they first started. In otherwords, they had no endgame content and still became a massive success.
I think WAR will be just fine, hehe.
I don't know why people keep saying this, MC was in at release for WoW. It was really buggy and not tested enough but it was in the game.

It was really crap in release, pretty much almost unplayable. WoW didn't have much endgame content at release and zero PvP content.
After finally looking into this game more over the last month I have really gotten interested in it.
And I have once again - and hopefully last time - will be pre-ordering a game that I haven't really played (or may come down to possibly getting into beta before release).
I beta tested AoC and at the time I liked the game. So, I pre-order. Then teh game released and it would barely run on low settings on my PC. (when it had run fine on Medium right before release) And I told myself I didn't want to pre-order again until a game had been out and I could get a trial for it.
However I really thinkl this game stand a better chance on release - so far. {crosses fingers} lol

If you are looking for WAR to be your personal MMORPG savior, then perhaps you will face disappointment when it doesn't meet these lofty expectations.
If you are taking a a more pragmatic approach and are looking forward to it as just another game to play as long as its fun (my approach these days) I think you'll enjoy it.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
The people that will be disappointed with WAR will be the ones that didn't really look into it. Soon as NDA drops you will know all there is to know about the game.
Some people will still play it and upon first character creation go onto a forum and say "WTF wheres the choppa?". Yeah those people. There are plenty of them and the trick is to not listen to anything they say.
I'm debating preording it as well. I did the same exact thing with AoC that you did. It seems that they are taking time to fix the bugs and polish the game play. I'm gonna hold off on pre-ordering until I see more.
