I never had the chance to really play it before, but after hearing so many great things about Ryzom I'm really looking forward to trying it.
Hey Suvroc, Ryzom is where I went after I finally had enough of the NGE and I have never regretted my choice! The game play has a prett good learning curve! In Ryzom you get to customize your attacks, spells, and how you forage for materials!
The community is as good if not better than the community of PRE-CU SWG too!
Ryzom was the first MMO i played. I have not found another MMO that comes close. Probably why i played it until it closed, and have felt lost ever since. I am extremely happy and excited Ryzom is coming back. Its a wonderful game. A die-hard group of friendly players that support and keep things interesting. The crafting system is superb! The customization of attack/magic stanzas let you have a wide variety of options when it comes to engaging enemies. A planet that is alive and constantly changing. Epic Outpost Battles.. Endless unique creatures to hunt or play with.. . ya i probably sound like a review.... TRUST ME.. its worth checking out..
"Hurray, finally a game where I can fulfill my lifelong dream of taking emotionally dead women and finding the most financially viable means to exploit their bodies with the ultimate goal of making them Hugh Hefner's personal furniture."
I am so stoked knowing that I will once again walk the planet of Atys.
Its the only game where I ever queried, if my Avatar would be happy where I left it, because the servers closed. Would it be happy with the equipment I had left on it ...... it wasn't just a "living" world, when it closed it was sort of like having a breavement in the family.
I'm so glad for all the players, that our waiting and hoping has finally paid off, I'm looking forward to meeting old AND new friends there soon
when i left i was sure i wouldnt come back. But after trying hard to like various other mmorpg's i have come to realise there is nothing like ryzom out there. The game is unique in all the right ways.
I have a nasty feeling i gave away/sold all my groovy boosted digging gear but meh who cares, I will be back digging in Lands of Umbra with q50 beige npc LA if necessary
I suppose it will depend on if the amount of players paying for it manages to fund the cost of co-location for the servers, as well as the bandwidth costs.. Probably a thousand or three monthly would do it, if I go by local rates, depending on the size of their rackspace. Bandwidth probably isn't particularly high.
This game is very different... Not only because the world is indeed a living one - with predators hunting herbivores, seasons changing and resources ripening in the ground in various spots depending on the weather...
Zoiks! The mere mention of "a living world" is enough to get me to try it !
Reminds me of what those Garriott and Koster guys had -originally- envisioned for UO.
edit: wow this is the most positive thread about any game i've seen in a long time.
Let the new devs know, and send them money to prove it.
Ryzom is a good game but without a fresh server launch it's not worth investing time into. I am looking for a game world to invest years in and I don't fancy starting on a 4 year old established world.
I choked on the meat grape leaf I was eating when I saw this! I caught on to this game when it was going through its last death throws, with the previous developer. I'm glad I'll finally get to enjoy this game the way it should be played soon! Congrats to all the hardcore fans. You guys have had your IP revived twice - not even the Firefly or Jericho fans can brag about that
WE'RE TRYING!
But this is awesome news indeed, I've always wanted to try Ryzom, only ever heard fantastic things about it.

maybe they'll launch 2 servers... one with the old DB and the other with a fresh one.
My guess is that the Fresh one will be just as populated as the Old one... I know I'd play on a fresh one, because it's a different feel and people like to be at the forefront of exploring a gameworld.

I'd most definitely play on the old server if they create a new one, as I'd like to play with the people I used to play with, thanks. Whether a new server may make one *feel* as if they're at the forefront of exploring, the fact is that one is not. Those on the old server would have done that years ago.
I was on Silan when the servers were closed down and I'm a casual gamer (because I'm getting old and because of time constraints).
But I have to say that the presence of old vets on the server you've chosen is really a nice thing ... SoR is a game that may be played in several ways but the learning curve may be discouraging. The community has always been so warm and helpful ... you're going to need the old players.
I hope they will start at least two servers ... one with the old DB and one completely fresh.
Anyway, time to watch the old community trailer: click
Who owns it now? I kinda left and decided not to return after it went back up again with gameforge the first time due to the fact that it seemed to not be on a stable financial footing and low and behold it went under again. I have not seen any mention of who owns the thing now or did gameforge decide to keep it? I kinda want a company with money to run it so that in another 6 months its not shut down a third time lol.

The latest news still didn't discovered the name of the company. The only thing we know is that the owners should be french, and some of the devs involved were part of the first time dev team that started the development under Nevrax in 2000.
Actually, most of us want first of all to jump in Atys asap, but we are pretty sure that, when they will reopen the new website and decide to reopen the game fully, they sure will give us the info regarding how they wanna develop the game.
Just to repeat something already told by other players, this time is different from GF 'era', because GF was forced to pay the debts *and* to pay the whole old company for at least one year.
Now, the new owner have all the assets, free of debt and with no forced expenses other than what they have decided to invest.
So, the scenario seems a lot more promising, as the new owner could have all the funds necessary to give Ryzom a brighter future. Anyway we have just to wait and see. And the wait is now really short.
One about looking for new volunteers to translate the game to spanish and russian (and maybe portugese). You can find it here
Then a second message today about opening the servers to anybody who had an active account when the game closed (including the free trials on the starter isle) You can find this message here
two more announcements of the new owners btw. One about looking for new volunteers to translate the game to spanish and russian (and maybe portugese).

nope - can't get into the game or post on their forums - my account was still active but i had not left the noobie island
This is rather annoying...I can log into the forums with my trial account but it says that I do not have permission to post and I still cannot log into the game.
Seems the people who canceled subs can't login either, so it -should- be everybody that had a active subscription when the game died, and all free trial accounts...
(Although person above me said his free trail doesnt work either)
(I asume you guys downloaded the client-fixer and run it?)

there's no place like home, see you all soon
How long will this trip around the Zapper last and what will the new owners do to prevent the quick return to the zapper?

Nice opinions of you all. I can only confirm all this.
I hope that sufficient player appear, in order to help the project to earned success.

So you had to be subbed at the time Ryzom closed to get in, not just someone with a long history of playing this wonderful game..? Heh.
This is really exciting news. I'll def be there the day the servers reopen.
Viva la Ryzom!
