I wouldn't recommend anyone getting a lifetime membership for anything, especially not an mmo. First one would be interest. Just because you love it now that might change in 6 months. Games can drastically change for the worse, and even get shut down ala Fury and some others. Real life has a way of changing your playing habits or grinding them to a halt also.
I honestly wish I had bought a lifetime sub right out of the gate. I did a regular sub for six months to see if LoTRO would have any staying power for me, then went lifer. Ended up wasting $60.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
I bought the lifetime package at launch, though I had the benefit of being in the betas and the early access, so I knew what I was getting. My interest has waxed and waned several times already, but the game is always there for me. Every time there's an update, I'll come back and play for a month or two, then go play something else for awhile. The money was never really a huge issue for me, and the peace of mind it gives me to have a game that's "always there" for me has been worth every penny.
The more I think about it, the happier it makes me, really. The festivals are so much fun, and they keep getting bigger each time one rolls around. The official forums are really active, generally positive, easy to navigate, heavily populated, and there's frequent dev interaction. The Lorebook is a tremendous resource. The free updates are massive by current gaming standards. The addition of things like the costume tabs really pleased me to no end. It just goes on and on. I'd go so far as to say that Turbine's handling of LotRO has earned more goodwill from me than my 4 1/2 years of Asherons Call did, and I absolutely loved AC.
There's no denying that, eventually, I reach the point where I start to need "something new" to play, but it's rarely because I found LotRO lacking; I'm just a virtual tourist, and I guess that lifetime subscription means I always have a place to come home to after jet-setting around Telon or Paragon City or wherever it was that I went.
The lifetime subscription is probably worth it, but I went for the founders 6 month plan. For a total of €8.99/month, I can't complain, as I don't want to spend more than €10/month on games (so I usually take 3-6 month plans).
Anyway, yes it transfers to MoM. The only reason you have to buy MoM is; patching from the install dvd already is over 6 GiB. MoM will be another 2-3 GiB. It's really for our own good. Not to mention; it's pretty cheap, will be around €25.
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

The wife and I both have lifetime accounts, and we don't regret it one bit!
We spent well over $400 on AoC and got a whole whopping 2 weeks of pleasure out of it.
