Definately not habitually. Before they nerfed (fixed?) resists on gear in the most recent patch, there was actually alot of lower level droped items which had better statistics than their higher level counterparts, so for example even at 80 there were some things from Thunder River bosses which were better than what I was using, I didnt have alot of player crafted equipment so I took what I could get.
I havent been able to log in since the last patch yet so, Im not sure how things are now. So yeah, I have killed grey bosses before for loot drops that I would use, most of my cash (which really was pretty meager by most standards) was made from Epic Kheshetta runs though, or the few times I went to Thunder River for drops. I think I had around 16 gold to my name. I really hope that isnt classified as exploiting in this game heh, if it is they really should be more clear about it- or just introduce trivial loot coding if its unintended so folks wont get any drops from creatures below a certain level range to the player.

I think it was flagging people as farmers If I'm not mistaken. I'm 98.9% positive there were posts about this a few weeks ago.
Edit- Another one of those unwritten rules they've been banning over.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
Heh, I geuss so, another thing to watch out for apparently. Whats annoying too is the pieces that I was going for when I was out there in TR were no trade items, the set helm or gloves. So you couldnt even buy them off the market if you wanted to.
The fact of the matter is that the account should have been investigated in full before banned. 2 gold in AoC is nothing at higher levels and yes what he did was wrong but an auto-ban was not the way to handle it.
To be honest I commend the fact that Funcom is willing to take the extra step but watching the mail is overboard. It's like watching someones private convo.
I play the game but I'm not o.k. with that. I joke around and say all types of things with guildees and friends stuff that if not watched from beginning to end I wouldn't want looked at. I'm sure everyone jokes about stuff that could offend with their friends.
AoC and Funcom aren't doing things all together right at the moment but the game doesn't completely suck and it looks amazing. I say we all give it a chance to grow before we say it's all over.
Who knows, maybe Funcom will start doing things right...It happened with SOE in Vanguard it could happen with this game too

He says "WTF, it won't let me log in. It says my account is banned(13)." So he sends an email to funcom asking whats up. He gets... (keep in mind this is a highly active guild member and a valuable member of our guild. If someone died he would be the last to get blamed.) =================== Hello,Thank you for emailing Age of Conan support. In order to maintain the integrity of our in-game economy we here at Funcom have taken a strong stance against unauthorized gold transactions. We do not condone the selling of in-game gold or in-game services for real life money. Your account has been investigated and found in association with this unauthorized gold trade and as such your account has been permanently closed.Due to the serious nature of this violation your account will not be considered for reopening and this decision cannot be appealed. ===================ROFL he then admits that he had sent a joke mail to one of our other guild mates when they asked to borrow a couple gold. If they would have done any amount of research they would have found he is completely innocent.
if he sent that fake gold farming email with the ingame msg system then i can understand why.... if he sent it thru his personal email then either they tapped his email account or half of this story is made up...or funcom is more messed up than i ever imagined.
Just to quick introduce myself. I am a long experience MMORPG player (10 years - played like all online games) and also a senior software developer with all the international graduates you need. So let's cut this crap about me, I know what I do and what I am saying.
I personally use this forum for a long time now and I am more a person who reads in the background instead of posting. There are enough voices out there who have the need to constantly express themselve without knowing what their point is, I do not want to be part of this.
Of course I also started playing AoC on release and to be honest I also quit the game a day ago.
But, this is not the reason why I just registered here to write my first post - the reason is also not actually related to gameplay, it has to do with some poster's opinions and their low bar of resistance being controlled, observed and I would like to address them.
What is wrong with some of you guys?
Here are some quote's of posters, who think they know the right metaphor - However, it is outragious and scaring at the same time how easily they except being monitored and how easily they find excuses to justify it.
"Exactly, mess with the bull and you will get the horns."
"The op situation is akin to making bomb jokes in an airport. They might sound funny coming out of your gaping mouth, but let's see your reaction when your being tackled and taken to the interogation room."
""pointing a gun at a police officer for fun."
Gents (I ssume they are all Gents, because a woman would have enough empathic skills to identify there is something wrong), first of all this is just a game, not reality. Only coloured, animated pixels and with a multinational chat interface. There are no real bulls, or policemen, or guns, or real bombs on virtual airports.
The guy who wrote the ingame mail has made a good joke in his eyes and someone else who put his curious nose in his private ingame mail with a believed private text decided it was not. It was maybe a bad joke, perhaps morally wrong, nothing else.
It is the same, that if you would write a letter to someone privately with a joke text who only is understood by the receiver and on the way it gets opened, read, misinterpret and you get sanctioned without warning, hearing, permanent ingame death sentenced.
And this is what bothers me the most. Your total acceptance of ultimate decissions without any hearing and without having a fair tibunal, because some of you have already been so strongly conditioned to question the right of free speech and the right of privacy, doesn't matter if it is ingame or in real life.
Stop pretending that total control of your privacy, home, computer, telephone, mail, emails, car is something completely normal and acceptable, because it is not!
Enough said.
Good day to all.
PS Appologies. Didn't want to sound too harsh, but it makes me so angry that some people have so easily accepted to give away constitutional rights and what silly reasons they give to justify it. Conditioned sheeps
I played WoW with a few guys that sold gold when the game first came out, before there was anything to do at 60. They were the most "active" and "valuable" members of our guild.
One guys still plays today; he's lost like 3 accounts.
Until you post that funcom gave his account back, I'm going with the assumption that either you aren't telling us everything, or your friend isn't telling you everything. Not everyone admits they're guilty, and if his actions matched the criteria for a ban then I can only believe that he did something wrong.
I've seen enough posts like this for every game I've played. Even online shooters. "Just because my head shots is 100% doesn't mean I'm cheating.", O.K.
I've already replied in this thread a couple of times, just for inquiring minds like you and that is quite honestly everything I know, I suggest you read those posts if you want my reasoning on the matter. Im not being accused of "selling gold" Im getting accused of "advertising selling gold" basicly because of that single in game mail, which was sent to a friend who also was a guild mate. Consider these points if after reading all my other replies you still find yourself struggling with the concept of a wrongful banning.
1) Last time I checked gold spamers, dont send a single mail, they send thousands upon thousands before they ever get banned even if you report them right after you see them.
2) Gold spammers usually use accounts with characters that are level 1 or 2, not 80s. And on top of that, the characters on my account that are not 80, are in the 20 to 30 range, and logs will show they are all fairly actively played, and not spamming people.
3) Gold spammers can spam hundreds of mails within an hour sending them to all sorts of random people. They do not just send a single obscure mail to one person, who also happens to be in the same guild, who also happens to be a person they always group with and raid with and talk with.
4) Gold spammers also often dont speak in clear english, if they even speak at all. I seriously doubt there have ever been any actual gold farmers who get banned and then ask in completely clear English, in a thoughtful and well intentioned e-mail to Funcom inquiring about the status of their account.
5) And if they wanted to check where my lousy 15-16 gold came from, they will easily see it was all gotten be me, legitimately.
Now for the people that like using the analogies, as I stated before the reason I was most annoyed about the way this was handled was because it went a little something like this:
Pulling someone off the street who resembled a person wanted in a murder crime, than EXECUTING THEM, and THEN putting them on trial after they are dead, only to find out they were innocent.
Yeah, exactly, it wouldnt make sense in that instance and it doesnt make sense in this instance. A little common sense could have gone a long way if this was ever looked at by an actual person but it wasnt until after the fact, and that- is the point. Reguardless of your respective opinions on the conventional wisdom behind having the audacity to joke about something as petty as "spam mail", the fact remains that I actually did nothing wrong and should have never been banned in the first place.
Funcom is a bunch of retards, very obvious from the state of their game and the lies they feed us every month at resubscription time.
They should be trying to fix their broke assed game and giving us a reason to play the game instead of petty things like gold in a game that has no economy or anything to buy in the first place.

By investigation they mean "one of our 18 year old employees did a search for common gold farmer mail titles and auto banned all accounts, without even reading or looking at the actual player account."
I was banned on the forums for creating a thread about the pros and cons of a /suicide or /die command within AoC, the mod said... "I dont see how this is worth talking about" then closed the thread and banned my account.
These are the type of people funcom employs.
Another player is banned because he jumped on a small ledge when running from an npc mob. The Ban said, "you cannot use the world to break mob pathing", yet... they dont ban people jumping into water or getting more distance from a mob to break its agro path. Funcom punishes players for their inability to design a solid game.
You can even get banned for jumping in the fountain in the Noble District. Its not allowed. lol

Innocent until proven guilty. In the very end not every inmate may be innocent, but at least they get their day in court BEFORE they are condemned. Despite Funcom's decision to handle everything they do backwards, I should be cleared by Monday anyway.
