Any server AND clan recommendations?

I am wondering what server/clan pair anyone might suggest joining.

I was never got into a clan w/ an academy when I last played, so I missed out on a good bit of the fun. So it would be nice to see what server/clan I should look to join when I start playing again.

I'll probably start playing in a week or 2, since monday I start working 7-12's for a week or 2, so no real game time in the very near future lol.

Any advice would be nice, and btw I am EST time zone, so US servers please.

I'd recommend Phoenix, the new merged Hindemith + Gustin. These are the two servers who used the official forums the most. Other servers rely on l2blah, which is is pretty much probotting. So that should tell you something a little more about Hindemith. Since the merge, it is the only North American server to hit a "Normal" level which is 4k/6k server capacity.

Clans? to each his own. There are many clans, look around and choose one, join an academy of a clan willing to help you out. If you like them, join the clan as a full member at level 40. If not then look around a little more.

Try to find a clan without a lot of clan wars, you'll level faster, find more parties and get to know players from each side of the political spectrum and you can choose which side to pick from there.

And how exactly did you arrive at that lightning bolt of knowledge?

Lucky guess or are you tracking all L2 accounts activities when not ingame? Its been my limited experience over the years in L2 that most clans use private forums.

L2blah? Seriously, who reads any of that gibberish on that site? Its the same 50 or so people shit talking endlessly about nothing. Sorta like SWG vets only there are more L2blah users.

And thanks for the caln advice about not being in a war, as I see being KoS would not help leveling :P

There are bots on all servers. I'll give you that. People aren't as open about it on Phoenix as say... Teon, because there is still some sort of bad reputation for being a botter. Exactly, it's a gripe in the alliance chat. Thats a far cry from your alliance chat being filled with secrets and ways to configure your bot.

Trust me, I've played since Open Beta launched, I know where all of the communities went. If you went to see the official forums you'll see something similar to this, as this is the # of forum threads per server.

Hmm, from a list like that it seems Gustin and Hindemith take advantage of the official forums. A common reason a server's official forum migrates to l2blah is that the most influential players either voiced inappropriately on the official forums or they are part of the botting community. On Hindemith at least for awhile hardcore players fought off botters for control of the server. They would rise against it so Hindemith was a little "cleaner".

Now compare this to L2Blah. Gustin has the least posts, followed by Luna (newer server), then Hindemith. So HOW COME the two servers who have more posting activity on official forums are the 2/3 lowest posting count on L2Blah?

It's not the same 50 people posting on Blah, but you can agree that when a player wants a more friendly environment and the most "legit" and "botfree", Phoenix is the place to go. Why? The powerful political players on Phoenix post on the official board which is heavily monitored rather than L2Blah.

I have to admit you have some very good points there fast

I'll definately hit phoenix, since it has the best chance of having the least botting.

When i played for 2 1/2 years i was on Kain.  So when i played Kain it was the most hardcore pvp and the most phracked up politics.  Awwww memerories, like hearin SC yellin in vent, "what the fck is immortalsoul doing stealing the raid drops...".

That maybe true, but will have the most bots in the beggining areas.

but since the quests can get you up to 20 within an hr or so and killing 3 mobs, i dont think i need to worry.

And if I get in academy I should be able to find raid groups to get me up to 40 in about 5 more hours.

Well, I tell you what. Why don't you pm me and I'll see if I can have you added to our academy. We are a pretty neutral clan but mostly higher lvls.

I can help you out with ng gear and answer questions. We do have some "real players" (meanign they are not academy toons that are levelled for academy points) in the academy and they might be able to help you out. I'll probably be on "later" tomorrow night (maybe 9:30 to 10:00 ish). - S

I've been playing MMOs for about 6 years and have been trolling forums for about 3, played most major titles to some extent, wrote articles for a few, did player interviews for one, you know what forums tell you about an actual ingame community?

Nothing.

Its a place where a handful of the lovers and haters go to compulsively rant about how great whatever their stance is on whatever given subject.

L2blah may be a cesspool of obscenity but there is a lot of knowledge on those forums. And since it is a popular place for end level players to flame each other, you can at least get a picture of what high level chars are capable of. You won't get that so much on the official forums.

As for choosing a server, first you should think about where they are located.

Devianne and Phoenix are NA-East
Bartz, Sayha and Aria are NA-West
Teon, Franz and Luna are Euro

Really? I have quite the opposite impression? Apparently Hindemith and Gustin didn't mind the tough censorship NCSoft provided. So your telling me when the majority of players on a server decide to post on the censored official forums as opposed to the uncensored botter infested/illegal activities forum it means Nothing?
