What ever happened to STO.NET?....
I really miss those little forum trolls. Never have I seen so many "God - Mods" in one place. But they were always good for a laugh every now and then.
*sigh*

Since there's no way in hell Cryptic would give those sycophantic suck-ups the same power Perpetual did, along with the utterly abysmal impression they made on the Star Trek community at large, I highly doubt you'll ever see STO.net again.
Pot, Kettle, Black much guys?
Nice. Care to actually show me where I'm wrong, or are you just bored?
Basically STO.net decided to shut down because intrest in STO died during the power transfer between perpetual and cryptic, I would believe they will return know that STO is ALIVE!!! And yes I am very excited to see STO back.
Actually I would say that this place is the polar oppisite of what STO.net was. Most here like to tear games apart no matter how good they may be whereas STO.net did nothing but praise the utter pile of crap that was PE's vision of STO. Hopefully Cryptic was paying attention to what other sites includiing this one had to say about the matter and not what they were going on about over at STO.net. As for STO.net making a comeback I personally think it will but it will be nowhere as popular as it was in it's day now that Cryptic has their own game forums up for STO. Say what you will about their forum it was still a very good informational site.

I would never give STO.net the satisfaction of even looking at their site. I have lost interest in STO after 5 years now. Sorry.
Well like them or not, they had a better community and fan excitement about STO than in this forum.
and yes I was there. proud of it too.
I think the unabashed anti-stonet sentiment stems from some form of jealous anger because they did get so much interaction and exclusivity with PE. no, they didn't put up with trolls...and i'm glad.
WRONG!
They didn't put up with anyone who didn't agree with their narrow minded views. It wasn't a forum, it was a Joke.
odd, cause I disagreed plenty of times with all of them....from gaming to politics to religion....and i never got banned or warned.
so your opinon is nowhere near what my experience is.
let it go, the site is gone no?
i'm just glad cryptic is running their own forums, sto.net showed why fansites can be bad.

I did as well Faxxer especially with Cinc (who is now playing happily in the Warhammer forums). They did in the last couple of months of gaining 1.5 more members than previous have only one forum Nazi and that was Cinc.
After having argued with her on the forums and telling her several times that PE would crumble under in PMs she started edited deleteing more and more posts (not just mine either).
While it was a Paradise lost environment there, it is gone (for the best really).
On a note now we get to bitch and moan about how grind orientated and COH like STO will become now that Cryptic has the IP (can't wait to loot some Gorn for their boots, Oh wait, they don't wear any/sarcasm off).
STO.net did have a decent community and it was an innovative site. BUT... the moderation was very heavy-handed. I was a critic of PE and my postings were constantly removed, censored, or edited. CinC was especially restrictive if you did not share her views of what PE was or if you disagreed with her. There were times when their censorship boardered on the ridiculous.
I was banned after Cinc and Writerguy1984 read my Private Messages and deterimined that I was "rebel ringleader" because I corresponed with other non-conformists. They actually read Private Messages! It was complete BS. I simply shared my opinions with others and encouraged them to express their views and to note their disagreement with the staff.
STO.net failed because PE failed. Thankfully, Cryptic has nothing to do with the former staff of STO.net. The site being run by Crypitc is OFFICIAL and it is an indication of what we can expect from Cryptic. The moderation appears to be very fair and open. No more Kool-Aid being poured.
HEY!!!!
It's great to see u two!!!
One thing we CAN all agree on.... is that we REALLY want STO to be a good game!
Hope u guys are doing great also!
Faxxer
oh fyi... Kinneas is in vegas today getting some exclusive interviews and stuff... but today is a big day anyway for STO!!! wooot.
I disagreed constantly over there, and was never banned, never had a post deleted. You just have to refrain from being disrespectful in forum posts, something that a number of people had (and still have) problems with.
Nonsense. They were almost facist in their moderation. Nothing can justify the reading of Private Messages and the censorship they performed on my postings was heavy-handed and inappropriate. I tried the respectful part and all it got me was even more scrutiny from the the Kool-Aid Kids. Thank goodness both Perpetual and STO.net are both dead, dead, dead.
yes, it's too bad you couldn't hold your tongue and have a decent conversation with everybody else.
Instead your posts were filled with hatred and your own viewpoints. Without any intention of listening to the otherside.
In fact you often just posted to troll and cause trouble. Yes, it was to bad you were banned. Everybody rejoiced when you were no longer around.
FinniganGuy: I tried the respectful part
haha. Ah you're good for a laugh at least.
STO.Net was good as a fansite, but not as an unofficial/official site.
Heavy use of Moderation causes a perception to arise of strictness and reviewing of private communication. Unfortunately the reviewing of private communications was conducted without prior warning as stipulated within the forum policies. Hence one case was made known, the creditability suffers of the moderators, resulting the possibility that others had their messages reviewed.
There was also ambiguities of the use of offensive language. Some people were censored while others and moderators were not. One policy said that offensive language was not allow, but another allowed for it.
Then add in all of the little moderated edits; spelling corrections, making multiple postings into one, summarizing, color changes, references, etc.
As for STO.net to return, sure it can. But it won't be popular anymore, that seat has been filled by Hailing Frequencies.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Ah speaking of which, have you changed your viewpoints since first getting wind of STO?

And going for a triple crown posting....
This would be an example of when a STO moderator would take some time and make these three postings of mine into a single one.
Along with changing the green monochrome color of the text to dull gray.
And then there is...
