on a IGN forum board Ms.Gray replied the the same old delay post but this time came a second post from her which included her saying that informtion about the beta shoudl be comming soon. How long is soon? that is the question.
Yea, they've already started changing all the areas and monster levels to allow for character progression and the guild features are probably getting implemented and tested we speak. I imagine as soon as most everything as far as features is complete in the game that the Beta signups will begin.
Knowing Arena.net, I think "soon" is the next month or so. Since they are a break off of Blizzard, they'll take a long time to ensure that all of the content is ready for beta testing, etc.
I don't think that this is a bad thing because it means less bugs for us beta testers to find but it'll take a long time.
It should be interesting to see how many people sign up for the beta, considering they had an insane amount of people that DL'ed the E3 preview version and most people seemed fairly interested in it after playing.

I doubt all the same people that played E34E would sign up for the beta. It'll probably be less pronounced and I'm sure there are people out there lazy enough to not want to fill out an application.
In terms of actual applications, I expect there to be nearly millions. I'm sure several people will sign up multiple times in hope of getting in.
I hope that people who are active in the Guild Wars community gets a "free ticket" into the beta. Because this game will get a huge ammount of beta signups, so the chanses pf getting in is very slim.
But remember, there will be an open beta after the closed one, but that is just a stress test.
EDIT: Would you mind posting the link to that IGN post?
Areanet has started accepting alpha referals again. I guess we have to wait some months before the beta, because adding aplha testers right before going beta does not make any sense.
The beta begins in October. We will take as much time as necessary to balance and polish the game based on feedback received during the beta period, and anticipate that we will release Guild Wars by early 2005.
Will you be having a traditional beta? NEW!
Monthly worldwide events will replace a traditional beta test. We have been conducting an alpha test for nearly three years and have received and incorporated excellent feedback from our testers. Now we are starting our beta period and are opening Guild Wars to the world. During the World Preview Event game players from around the world will be invited to play Guild Wars and enjoy exciting cooperative quests, challenging competitive play and robust guild support. Subsequent monthly beta events will allow players who purchased the pre-order product to return to join the Guild Wars beta, which will take place during the first weekend of each month.

Probably as soon as they are ready for real guilds. That's usually the norm for games.

I was lucky to be in the E34E event and looking forward to play again !
Still 2.5 months till World preview event.
Well, enough time to inform all our friends to join in this time !
I hope they give some more info on how to "pre-order" from European countries.
