ThomasN7ThomasN7 87.18.7.148Member CommonPosts: 6,690

My computer is about 2 years old maybe a tad less now. I currently have a pcie 16 slot and my vid card is using ddr2 ram. I am looking to upgrade my video card but I am unsure if my computer cam handle pice 2.0 and ddr3 ram. How would I find out if my can handle pcie 2.0 and ddr3 memory for my video card. Thanks for your help!

If its 2 years old then it doesn't have PCI-e 2.0 lanes.  However, when a video card says its a PCI-e 2.0, its really just PCI-e 2.0 compliant.  It will work on any PCI-e x16 slot.  Also doubt your board is DDR3 compatible, but as of right now DDR3 is useless.

To further clarify, it doesn't matter about the DDR3 as long as you're talking about the memory on the video card and don't plan to install it directly to your mobo. For example, the HD 4870 uses DDR5 memory, and my mobo definitely doesn't support that.
