Mortal Online is a sandbox game in the same sense as Darkfall. It is currently in its early phases of development and seeing how it is not recognized on this site yet, I just wanted to create a topic. Enjoy!

Epic are partners?
I guess then it runs on the Unreal Engine? Pretty unusual choice for an MMO I must say.
EDIT: After watching the trailed, Unreal technology is indeed used.
Also, from looking at the FAQ they promise no "pointless grinding" or level restricted equipment. now I'm interested.
I think MO is only a few in-game screenshots away from having its own section here at mmorpg.com. Exciting to see another skill based PVP fantasy mmo in development
Not really. Lineage 2, Fury, and Stargate Worlds all run on Unreal.
It does look interesting for sure.

Stargate worlds will be instance based and although I've never played Fury, I've heard the same thing.
I mean for a million dollar engine, Epic state it has no MMO handling networking code, so that would need to be started from scratch by the development team.
If the development team can pull it off, then props to them for a sweet looking MMO, but it just strikes me as highly unusual to make one on the most expensive engine there is with no support for the genre you're pushing for.
yeah i've been following mortal since it was announced and it's everything i want in an mmo. good job promoting it OP.
1st person = yuck
Ive been following MO with some interest as well. My only prob is the first person view. Not a big fan of that. Always make me feel claustraphobic. That may be the deal breaker for me.
1st person = yum
Gotta agree with Shrapnel. First person is the deal or no deal in my eyes.
A game that offers first person view and fluid control where the user does everything is pretty much the best way it can be. The birds eye view "point at stuff and go make a coffee" is the deal breaker for me.
Lets hope there's enough of us to populate a game then
We'll find out in a year
seconded. nothing more imersive than 1st person. and combat is tons funner and realistic.
We'll find out in a year
no way this game is coming out in a year. I'm sceptical it will ever come out until I see some ingame videos.
My blog:
Yea like when you are fighting a giant, and your whole screen is taken up by its toe.....thats really cool...to be fighting a toe with a hangnail.
Seriously, there is nothing immersive about fpv in video games. The character is like a horse wearing blinders. Your view is extremely limited compared to real life vision. I find that very unimmersive. If thats your thing....then MO is your game.
I remember reading something about FPV being in the game so that you can't see someone sneaking up on you or flanking you in PvP. I think they might loosen up a bit though on this idea once they start testing and everyone cries blue murder when they spin their mousewheel and don't slide back into 3rd person.
1st person = there should be a 3rd person view option
Not really. Lineage 2, Fury, and Stargate Worlds all run on Unreal.
I'm not 100% positive but I think I remember hearing Vanguard has the Unreal engine under it's bonet.
Why? Unreal engine is great outdoor engine. VG uses it and if do not count hitching that is from VG preload itslef but not from unreal engine, it works and looks perfect.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

Problem is that if the option is there everyone will be 'forced' to use it because it gives the advantage of wider view (and also can see area behind your toon) in PvP. If they wanna design the game based around having FPV it needs to be forced imo.
Having said that though, my prediction is they drop the idea of FPV altogether once the masses start testing.
I doubt this will happen. The developers know that they cannot satisfy everyone and thus are not trying to. If they were trying to satisfy as many as possible, Mortal wouldn't be ffa pvp, full-loot, and skill-based, not to mention fpv only except on mounts. These guys are essentially making the game THEY want to play and hoping they can make enough money in the end to make more games and spread their gospel further.
Sorry OP but i was way ahead of you promoting Mortal online, but you prolly want also your name been known as MO promotor hehe.
