1/16/07 doesnt qualify for a long time poster imo. 3300+ posts since the beginning of 07, you couldnt pay me to put that much work into that many posts in defense of AoC. Well then again, if I got a free trip out of it and a bunch of other perks I might be able to put in some man hours in.
Thats a little un-called for don't you think?
How about a fan just like any other of the thousands of entrants, who spent a whole month constructing a Video FAQ to enter into a competion to a game that he is interested in and ends up winning.
I put a lot of time and effort into my entry to better help the community and FYI it was well received.
I feel I don't have to defend AoC, I feel that people have to come up with better arguments to justify the misinformation they like to spread without ever stepping foot in game.
Its about posting your thoughts with your own opinion, and I just do that. Somethings I like, others I don't so much with the game, fact is I talk about both.
Notwithstanding all the community Q& A and follow up work I done after the trip.
Well, I suppose participating in one of the largest MMO cons of all time brings with it bad karma. You cant blame people for throwing tomatos at you as youve willingly made yourself the self proclaimed AoC emmisary. You should be the one turning on Funcom, I know Id be pissed off if I put all that work into touting a game and was left in the position you have been by Funcom.
P.S. I read all your posts, and in fact was a fan of the information you put out there for us, unfortunately that all changed once I actually played the game. As I see it, if Funcom hadnt done with they did, youd still be a highly respected GC, instead of the target of numerous anti-AoC attacks. Again, it was Funcom that did this to you, talk to them about it, they betrayed you and left you holding the bag on these forums.

Everything I have seen just shows Avery is a die-hard fan of this game who has close friendships with the devs.
Um Uh...
Hmmmm.
Other than that it looks like a lot of the normal conspiracy theory garbage that goes on here all day long.
Apparently not, you just said that he is friends with the developers. That is one of the connections people were forming "conspiracy theories" about, and all the fact checking involved was asking him if he was a plant.
At this point all I can say is "whatever". Nothing else to say looking at that.

For what its worth, I think its great that AmazingAvery has been "promoted" to GC.
I've always read AA's posts and even though I don't agree with them nowadays, he's always been civil.
He worked hard to win the Video Competition and I waited with enthusiasm for his Videos when he was in Oslo.
I was very excited about AoC at the time, unfortunately the game didn't held my attention for long, there were just too many little things that annoyed me in game that prevented me from enjoying the game as whole.
I'm happy that AA likes the game and I will continue to read some of his posts regarding AoC (or any other game).
I wish all the luck for those that still play AoC and enjoy it.
For me, I'll continue playing LotRO and will make a foray into WAR.
The game correspondance idea is flawed on the merit that we don't need one special stature guy to postinfo-threads for us about a given game. We are quite able to do that ourselves. If all their title means is that they are users that can make special articles then you need to do one out of three things:
a) Have seperate accounts for the posting account and the article account.
This way people like AmazingAvery, who writes excellent articles, won't discredit themselves with the absolutely rubbish threads they start, all-the-while under the percievedimportantance the "Correspondent" status gives them in the eyes of the community.
b) Correspondents are forced to take everything they post on the forums through a bullshit-filter first.
This would again eliminate the outcry of lies and hidden propaganda, as the special stature people wouldn't be starting riots.
c) They don't get a special account title.
This is my favourite. The article makers would be of the same status as us, which will leave a better sense of community when seeing "one of our own" making decent articles, and you get none of the paranoia when one of the article writers messes up in the forums, because he's just a random guy with an opinion. It's a best of both worlds solution.
On the other hand, perhaps the flaw is the actual title. If it was "Conan Newswriter" or "Conan Guru" that wouldn't be as ambigious as Correspondent.
You are (most probably unintentionally) slowly bringing the term "Correspondent" to equation with the term "fanboy". (NOT Fan!). At least with Avery, you have done precisely this. Not judging you or anything, I am just expressing the actual experience that we, your audience are having.

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
First point i have nothing against avery but i think the main concern is that as admin have already acknowlaged is that he is a close friend of the developers.
now one thing to be a fan of a game but its a whole diffrent kettle of fish when some one is on a personal level with the developers.

Have to agree with this here.
Also, Gazenthia brings up a good point about having a friendship with the developer. Guessing the admin wishes to take that one back, eh?
If the Game Correspondent is in the "Dev's pocket", he has nothing worth saying that would interest me. As I said before, the only opinions that matter to me come from my fellow gamers that have not been bought and paid for.
Dear Admin, I think being a gamer who is a fan of the game is ok for a correspondent, and that's all fine. However, if he's an employee of Funcom or recompensed in kickbacks for posting outright lies and PR about the game, there is a problem. Avery appears to cross that line here, as his post about the Fury server was actually simple misinformation, and he appears to have a closer tie to Funcom than mere fanboyism.
I have not seen anything that proves this and I have asked my Editor and Correspondent Manager to double, triple check this by asking both parties.

Hey mate, if per chance you SHOULD get some nice kickbacks or indeed pocket some of them companies.
Any chance we could get more then 1Mb of mail storage then?
Ye I know I have asked this before, but this seemed like a good opportunity to bring it up again.

I have to agree with these ideas, but I think some people will still cry over it, because then they wont be able to identify who the person is, and what does that do? Makes them think in the same way as if they knew the person and thought they were so called "fanboys" or "shills".
They probably should try these ideas out to see if they can cut down the anger. A large volume of people are really unhappy with Funcom and AoC currently, so this is opportunistic to try out some different options with correspondants.
In the end, I hit this site and read both positive and negative feed back on a game before I would consider dropping money on it.. Would be nice to have the opposites of correspondants who can post what they dont like about a game. But we cant because trolls cant contain themselves and refrain from using foul language and hating on a game with little or no basis. since there isnt a balance, a number of people will continue to flame and/or hate on correspondants.
at least for the most part, the boards here havent been lock happy unlike what ive seen reading on AoC forums.

Correspondance really needed, when one can visit forums-eu.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php or forums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php and see for self raw AOC glory?

That was an understatement.
