- Also they're lacking income, I can see that their stock has dropped significiantly from 53 dollars a stock when the game was first released down to 23 dollars a stock and dropping.

...and if that's not enough for you, then read all the research I've been conducting on this game since I quit 13 days after the release. It seems like 90% of all the user reviews I've come across disapprove Age of Conan. I've been to gamestop.com, forums.ageofconan.com, mmorpg.com & forums, gametrailers.com, and amazon.com and 5% said, "Let's give this game a little more time, WoW was terrible when it was released" But little do they realize, the standards on MMORPGs are higher today than in the past. People expect a game to be better than WoW on the release date. Not what Funcom did, which was release a game still in its beta stage.
They got us all hyped with the level 1-20 Tortage (best part of the game) and forgot to mention, there's 60 levels of GRIIIIIIIIND!!! (exaggeration) And finally when you get to level 80, nothing to do. Completely hopeless, you ask yourself, why did I grind all those levels to find out that the end game is broken. And why stick with Age of Conan when it's obvious that Warhammer Online is more in-dept, and serious about releasing their game. First, they finished the game in Nov. 2007 but have been using this extra time to polish the game & graphics, balancing the classes and RvR system, testing, and more testing. They've actually announced what they were going to do, and Funcom never announced their status of the game, leaving us in the dark, and releasing bits and pieces of the Tortage world making us believe the game was big and innovative. I mean I for one was going to buy this game for the hype, it was all hyped up, but why buy it now? I mean most people bought it to get away from WoW.
I mean I was listening to the hype, but deep down inside I knew this game would only last me until the release of Warhammer and you know what? 13 days!!! Got to level 80 in 13 days and found out there was nothing to do. Sad.
And look at these Xfire ratings: http://www.xfire.com/games/aoc/Age_of_Conan_Hyborian_Adventures/
Clearly shows Age of Conan is going to fail. And without the proper financing, how will Funcom be able to make this game better? Where will they get the money to make an expansion? I think that all those sales, Eidos gets the biggest cut, and the people who financed Funcom to make the game. So, without a large subscriber base, I don't think this game will get any better. Erling Ellingsen says, "Right we we're concentrating on the performance issues, no new content for a while." Don't you see, Funcom will be out of money before they can even begin to add new content.
So the 5% who say this game will get better, not if World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich king, Warhammer Online, and Aion Online get released and are better. So, why am I wasting my money and playing Age of Conan again? Waiting on broken promises, and bluffs? Riiiiiight...anyway, the other 5% said, "This game is great!!!" And it is a great game until level 21. ROFL! And here's some of the reasons why people feel as if Age of Conan isn't and never will be a great game.
Funcom failed because...
- Never listened to their customers
- Performance issues
- Poor crafting system
- Petty bans like: one person who got banned for buying from the auction house
- No central-capital city
- Poor and Unbalanced PvP sysytem
- No competition
- Lack of end game content
- Grind fest
- Lack of middle game content
- Lack of subscribers = Lack of funding to improve the game
- Gold sellers & Spammers (for some reason can't solve the problem, and actually made it worse)
- No DX10 (means Crysis looks better than this game,k that means this game doesn't have good graphics)
- Broken Promises
- Unsuccessful economic system (where do I buy good mage armor? riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight)
- Terrible customer service (the GMs are professional at cybering people)
- Disgrace to the Conan lore
- Fixing up a beta (Erling Elingsen says," We're currently working on performance issues"
The list goes on, but the central point is that if you've read all that and still wanna buy this game or continue playing it. So be it, there are people who still play Star Wars Galaxies, exactly where this game is headed. I'd say don't waste your money, but if you wanna go out and buy the game, and have read this article, I understand, but realize that, "A book should not be judged by its cover"
And if you're still not satisfied, here's what one of the forum posters wrote:

d) bored of the 5 button smash for melee / auto atk cast for casters
e) you need something petition but the GM in game acts like a jerk
f) did quests for couple hours in a zone but at the end the quests are bugged and you cant get rewards(happens to me)
g) server shut down cause Failcom run out of money
.....and so much more....

Comments
can't agree more, this game sucks. Sadly, I was stupid enough to buy it.
I really enjoy this and how it is being used to argue Funcom's downfall.
Do not get me wrong, I feel that AoC is a failure. But, to use a website that
1. The name of the site is "WoW "riot seems a little too suspect
2. The user has made comments before about Funcoms failure, and was forced to retract them due to zero proof.
3. The financial proof for Funcom shows stock prices as being back at their original selling point.
4. We know Xfire is only one piece of the puzzle for loss, yet is used religiously for the reasoning.
Also, as of recent, the user who was posting was known for the longest time as "Brian Anonymous", which I see has recently been changed...oh the irony.
I can make up my own mind on how bad the game is. But, advertising a site that has an agenda is truly sad.

but it's funny that in all forums, 95% of the players hate the game.
The game is basically already dead, servers are ghost towns that all magically show as "Medium population".
Everyone's already moved on now, soon it'll be server merges / shutdowns
this is a bit sad, since the game had a big potiential, but the wrong company made it. Imo Blizzard or another good company should have made it.
True but no use crying over spilled milk, time to move on and leave this POS dead game behind.
I don't cry over spilled milk. I'm just so angry at Funcom
While I am on the same boat as you, I played the game for 5 days and got to lv46. I felt like I totally wasted $60 for a POS. However, here are my opinion.
First, Tortage is only decent, it gets really boring second times around. The combat system is button smash for melee or same old button cast for casters. After Tortage, the game is lacking npc speech...etc but the true grind begins at 40's
Second, I highly dount Failcom will care if their stock drops or not. They made tons just for box sales. Yes, 700k is just the number of subs (I think at least half is from box sales, while the other half are from beta/promos..etc). So lets see 350k x $60 =? Paid the staff, expenses, investors and they still got couple millions
Third, I never got hyped for that game, I heard about it but it doesnt really interested me that much. Bought it just to waste some time til WAR comes out, nope canceled it after 6 days, THIS GAME DOES NOT WORST THE 30GB of my hard drive. It was fun until bugged quests after quests, finished them and no rewards. Why dont they told us those are bugged before hand?
The real things that pissed me off is the customer services, I petition of the client crash and looking for a solution in game (happened after one of those patches, crash every 30 mins). Guess what? The GM in the game keep saying is my computer problem and I should go check my computer. The game runs fine til that patch and is my problem?
Those are just my experience, after I canceled I still check out the forum and see broken patches again and again. Patches fix useless junks like reduce boob size, fix polearm length, "by popular demands" piece of crap instead of fixing game breaking things.
Almost all the features on the box are not there (I was not hyped or follow the beta and stuff). I dont know DX10 is not implemented, I dont know the pvp is not there, the guild battle, craft...etc are not there.
Did I feel cheated? Yes of course. Am I mad? Yes after I bought it and played for couple days, not anymore. Why not? I felt lucky and smart to cancel it before they charge me $15 for the sub. Will I buy / play anything made by Failcom or any of the names from the devs/marketing. Absolutly not! In my opinion $60 for a lesson is worth it as I might buy their product in the future.
They might have paid off the staff, investors, and expenses, but getting 20% profit of the boxed sales is 50 X 1 million / 20% - gamestop, etc. profit, - transportation, etc. so yeah maybe 2 million profit, so don't you think it costs a bit more to make the game? So how is Funcom going to afford to make updates if their subscriber base is low, and it's obvious at this point if they aren't revealing, oh we have 600,000 subscribers, or something like that. And Xfire plus all the forums directed to hating this game, I dunno if it will survive much longer
Even if those numbers are correct, I see no difference of why there are no fixes or patches. Come on now, they said they develop this game for 5 YEARS! 5 years and still looks like this crap? Yes, is a scam because they have finical problem and need to push the game out to make profit, but just be glad you canceled and learned your lesson on this company. Like the old saying "Fool me once Shame on you Fool me twice Shame on me."
To the OP, you state that there is 60 lvls of GRIND in this game, i dont understand what you mean by that?
Are you just exaggarating or are you serious, either way it derails your post, cos if you are exaggarating then what else in your post has not been exaggarated, whereas if you are serious then you have not played the game or you dont know what "grind" means and as such are not qualified to comment on the game.
In future i suggest you stick to facts, espeically if you write a long post like that, as lying will just make you look like a Troll.
I did exaggerate a bit....here's really what happened, 1-20 quest level up, destiny quests, 20-40 quest level up, and at about 45 was where the content started drying up but not yet. At level 50 in the mountains is where I had to start grinding in the Cannable Caves I remember at level 54 I grinded a few levels in the Eligo Mountains. So then a few more quests, and Thunder River I started grinding again from level 58 to 60. Then I went to another place, with SNOW! and did a few quests there, and then I had to grind again with now a party at Kshetta, and I was level 67 and basically I had to grind from 67 to 80 playing Naruto 5th opening music for about 72 hrs. And we killed mobs there, and I forgot what they were called, but it was fun, but honestly with the lack of end game, I just quit.
All from May 17th to June 1st: yup, level 1 to level 80 in 13 days
Here's my extensive experience with the game:
1. Didn't preorder even with all the exquisite hype.
2. Played the beta and within 2 hours got bored and saw funtamental issues (not temporary bugs), Thank you so much for giving us a open beta funcom!
3. Didn't buy it
4. Read posts from release date on and experienced satisfaction knowing I avoided a boring mess.
I am a casual player so i only got to lvl 14 , what turned me off to the game was performance issues, this will never be a popular game because of the computer you need to run it , I actually enjoyed the game but with my Athlon 4400 and 7800 oc card i could not run it well. Maybe if i spring for another computer i will try it again
Lucky you.
There wasn't an open beta, as you had to be a paid member on FilePlanet to participate. So you basically paid for that PAID Open Beta.
I am glad however to have canceled the game within the first month, when I already saw the horrible patching mess Funcom was steaming for. I could play the game for over 4 weeks (started in EA) and with 2 patches they killed the game for me with constant freezes and CTD's out of nowhere lol.
Now now 3 months down the road the patching is still a complete mess. They hardly have fixed anything, but managed to break so much stuff that was at least working at launch. So 3 months after launch the game is in a much worse state than it actually was at launch! I must say Funcom got a first on that one.
This game has "Shutdown by the end of the year" written all over it at this moment and that is exactly what's going to happen if they continue this mess. Especially their whole forums that turned into one Huge Pile of Communistic Drama. Not to mention their still absolutely worthless and unacceptable non-existing customer support.
Cheers

Do you think the servers will actually get shut down or will they just limp along with 10-15k subs like some other games
We should be allowed to sue funcom for false advertising and fraud. There would have been absolutely no chance tha tI would have paid for AoC had I known what I was going to recieve.
On the other hand Funcom should get awards for worst customer service, worst patches in a game and worst MMO of 2008
you totally lost me there
you totally lost me there
Funcoms other game ao has 15-20k players a majority of those left are "froobs" that don't pay sub fees these froobs have to watch in game ads on billboards to keep fc and ao afloat.
So when aoc tanks so much it becomes ad based like ao what should we call them?
And when it's ad based, it will drop out of the best games and turn into a F2P, can't wait to see that day happen. And with the lack of funding, I think that's where it's headed

I think we should call em froobs, but it reminds me of some sort of yoghurt drink for kids
The servers are empty but the Server stats shows MEDIUM all time..
I think this game has failed because of Funcoms Ignorance and its good so.
I hope this game dies like AC2 did when Turbine (was it Turbine ?) been the same Ignorant Idiots.
Thousands of cunstomers complained and they just did what they thought is the right and at the end the servers closed and the game died..
The Level 1-20 Fanbois end up here after beeing banned from the Funcom forums sooner or later as well.
