Before AoC was released i read that the game would be based on skills more than items and that although there would be items to collect and upgrade that they wouldnt make much of a difference. Did something change in the production goals? because i see so many people complaining about itemization and wonder to myself if maybe players are expecting something else?
The stats dont change that much as you go up levels and you dont need to upgrade after 10 levels it's more choice. is this a design feature or broken? what is meant by Itemization?

AoC isnt based on skill.... but neither is it based on items either.
unfortunately, AoC is based on CLASS.
and no....Im not joking
AoC is based on skill as for itemization it does not count so much, except now when players are abusing stacking damage gems what basically means you can 1 shot almost everyone if you have enough gems.
The same thing was with evade gems like 3 weeks ago when with enough gems no one could even hit you, that got fixed and now waiting for damage gem fix.

The main reason itemisation means nothing is because the fundamentals of a MMO, the stats, aren't there.
The basic stats do nothing and most people ignore them completely. However some stats like %invulns, evade and +damage are wildly overpowered
They still haven't worked out the MMO basics of stats in AOC, and it doesn't look likely to be fixed for months/ever
Also there is no skill in AOC whatsoever, CC is basic stun/kd/mezz and combos are nothing but normal buttons that take several autoattack mashes to make, they're not actually "real combos" either, just a 5-button ability rather than a 1-button ability.
Most items do jack shit and then crafted gear gives people the ability to 1 shot.
AoC is not based on skill.... no person that truly PvPed in that game would say such a thing
Screw stats. What about the 1500 armor sets they were talking about? Instead it's the same crap with variations of colors ranging from, light brown, to shit brown.

Don't forget that the rule in other MMOs for females (armor gets smaller/shorter as it gets better) applies to males in this game as well. Goddamn the skirt on my ToS was small as fuck.
People are complaininga alot a bout itemization because everything looks the same and has the same stats. Sadly the characters look much better with the leve 1 items you get when first dropped on the beach.
The biggest change in the way characters look after level 10 is slight hue changes (brighter, greyer or bloodier) pieces of armor that look just like what you had before.
I still have no idea where they come up with 50,000 unique pieces of armor.
The armour and weapon skins are very limited in AOC compared to other games. The only time i can remember it being like this was DAOC in the early days, but at least in DAOC you could colour your items extensively.
UO was like that too i guess but it was issometric 2d/3d and again had extensive personal dyeing options which made it fun.
HAH, i was wondering if they were referring to items in general ... including grey drops hah!
Difficult to refute. As to the itemization, this is a legitimate concern that gets overshadowed by the laundry list of other, more important issues.
The game is not skill based. There is no skill required for anything in this game.

LOL, yeah, I was running around in a mini skirt for the first 10 levels as a male ToS... It really started to bother me... My guy looked like a total pansy striking people down with the same three spells that you use over, and over, and over, and over etc... Spellcasters in AoC are mind-numbingly boring! GOOD LORD!!!
it's actually quite democractic. Assuming you get a reasonably stacked damage gem armor set, which is attainable with enough time as you can buy them from crafters, most classes have the ability to one-shot any other class.
The skill to one-shot is limited... you manoeuvre, hide a bit, learn the best combination of buttons to make the one shot more likely to work... and blammo - you one shot the other guy with almost no chance of him retaliating. Occasionally you will need another shot to finish the job, but still...
Some classes are better than other at this, however, and so there is a sense in which pvp is about being the right class.
But tbh, its a one-shot world out there pretty much across the board. Not sure if that constitutes skill though.
