Is the Age of Conan Game Itself the Center of this Hate?

DloreDlore Member UncommonPosts: 462

Like topic says, or is it the company that's making all the anger? I never played Anarchy Online but I heard that the game was good until after Age of Conan. So I'm wondering for someone to clear this up. Whenever someone says the game's bad they always have something to say about the company. I myself can't stand the game but I don't think that's making ALL of this hate. So tell me, is it something else or do you guys just like to complain? O.o

to be honest this interview sums it all up. Broken promises, from get go. Look at the box you bought for AOC and read again what it says for the games descrition.

That is a start i guess. There is more but meh. Sure many more will post here to tell you.

    I think it's a combination.

On the one hand you have a game that is really fun from 1-40, but loses steam after that.  The big reason for this dramatic fall off is a significant number of key systems which were either minimally tested in beta (raiding) or not beta tested at all (crafting and massive PvP).

On the other hand, you have a company that has consistently lied to the players and the community.  Of course, this is also the company that launched a game with untested key systems.

The game has potential, but that potential is far from being realized due to a series of terrible decisions and/or actions on the part of Funcom.  Even the problems with the game are ultimately attributable to the company that developed it.

So in the end, the furor is all about Funcom.  But that doesn't mean that the game isn't badly flawed in its present state.

If it was just another shit game we'd get over it. However, this was a widely hyped up beyond extreme (tons of E3 awards) piece of shit game to where the company STILL PR hypes the game after its release.

Throw in lies and blatant incompetency (charging Credit cards early among other things) and you have a great recipe.

But in the end.... you should still get over it.  Game stinks, you don't like it... forget about it.  Let go of the hate, its only a 50 buck game, not the end of all your life's hopes, dreams and ambitions.

Haha dude, it's not like I'm sweating bullets or cursing a storm because of it. I just enjoy expressing my opinions.

    The deceit...

So that goes back to the company itself.  AO was in very bad situation when it launched.  They said there was a miracle patch for it, which was all bs.  Actually AO is where I got tainted and never believed any dev again about that type stuff.

AoC has some cool/unique features about it.  The problem is, when it is so similar to other MMO titles it is competing with them on all levels.  Content, gameplay, crafting, you name it.

I think what is going to have to happen is a new genre of MMO come out to really get hyped about MMO's again.  No new MMO coming out can compete with content of ones that have been out for years.  So I think the content for us gamers will always be a problem.

The only way I see this changing is a shift in the type of MMO we are playing.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

Its mostly Failcom that generates the pure dislike for the game.  If they can just get their PR team to start being humble and honest plus reevaluate the priorities for its patches & testing procedures Age of Conan stands a fair chance at having a great gaming life.     They honestly should drop the NDA too I can't believe they haven't.

Haha ya. I was in Target looking for a Mic for vent and I saw the boxes, basically a full shelf. Said Directx10 right on it. I was thinking of putting a sticky note saying Fraudulent!

I dunno, can you really separate the two?

But yeah I think they feed into each and magnify each other's problems.  A bug that was a source of frustration can become a source of hate if you think the company lied about either it or something else.

    One word: lies.

    That's what inspires the anger.

    Lies.

Doesn't work this way if people feel mislead or taken advantage of.  Then it becomes personal.  I am not excusing or advocating this, I am simply stating that is the way it works and has always worked for humans.

The its only $50 is fine if the game was just not their cup of tea or had well known and admitted bugs.  But once it crosses over into the realm that AoC has crossed it becomes a whole other kettle of fish.

So this quip doesn't really work in this case.  Because the source is not that the game stinks the source is that they feel personally wronged.

A public apology, a statement as to where the game is headed, and less vicious moderation of the official forums would go a long way towards getting things back on the right track.

What's up with you guys thinking that we're foaming at the mouths at the mere mention of Funcom? This is a forums, I enjoy expressing my opinion so I do so. There really is nothing more to it.

    Ranting is fun anyways.

AoC is a terrible, unfinished and unfun game.

But the hate comes because of Failcoms just outright lies, deception and scams.  If it weren't for the public appearances by the devs (see the interview on this site).. most players would have just stopped playing and went looking for their next game.

The fact that we all felt like we were personally conned is what gets the blood boiling and makes us keep coming back to this forum.  I can honestly say AoC is the worst game I've ever payed for.. but even that fact wouldn't cause me to spend a month posting on the forums.. nope, that is all about the company.

May have gone back if there were major changes but when you screw up, then have the issues that you have with the moderators ( as an example) that show you just dont care, and then follow it up with the interviews and total BS theyve been spouting.....wait where was I going ?

I'm so sick of people saying its only 50.00. Since when is that much money no big deal?

Heres a challange, if 50.00 is no big deal to you send it to me. For your money I will send you a used copy of aoc.

Now since we all know that won't happen why don't you stfu with that argument.

    Only 50 bucks?

If I knew I had spent my money on a horrible game, I would have given my money to a better purpose.

You know every second there dies an african child of AIDS, everyday alot of people dies of cancer and alot of people in the world are starving. If we all spent our 50 bucks we could save alot of ppl instead of giving the money to a company which lies, and imo not should have my money.

Many 50$ makes a fortune. A little amount for you, but a big one in the big run.

For me the game itself is quite secondary. though the content was lacking when i was in CB right up untill live, the concept that funcom have still can work out nicely. the primary reason i have this anger is because of the company. outside of the interweb it doesn matter if it is a single individual or a corporation. you scam people, lie to people, manipulate people, lie some more, send out shill armies then yes im gonna be angery. i think funcom would need some serious restructuring before i would even trust them or go near their games ever again.

I still play SOE games even though they have cause some major issues for people as well, but at least they do have the balls to come forward about their downsides. though i still dont trust SOE i do enjoy their games and they dont go out of their way to scam myself or any of the players i have come to know through out their games, minus the NGE in SWG which scammed alot of people. they did however refund the players so that does count for something.

funcom on the other hand are just scamming and do not care about any reprocussions that may evolve. they have no respect for gamers or customers what so ever. the lieing that eminates from that company is unbelievable. its like they are using GW Bushes speech writer to write announcements and update notes. as well as some of the crafty manipulative forum posts by their gms and shills..

  • Ed2099Ed2099 Member Posts: 195

For Funcom is the largest problem with the constant lies of how busy the servers are, how many people are buying it, all the content they are adding ect ect (Doesnt take a rocket scientist to see whats really going on) but they just keep the lies coming and wont own up to anything.

When you add to that the fact the game is still beta at best after 10 weeks of patching, the bannings that are taking place for stupid things, still no new content, DX10 that s still not in the game. The weekly nerfing of classes, the mess crafting is and the list just goes on and on.

The whole thing has been a complete disaster fueled by the Failcom PR machine which is the only thing they have done right.

Anybody that can do enough PR to sell 700k copies of garbage before people find out its garbage is doing a hell of a job.

  • TarwaterTarwater Member Posts: 63

I didn't hate the game.  But what I did hate was the company charging me for another month, almost two weeks after I'd canceled.

That sort of thing does, indeed, piss people off.
