Gaming PC Purchase - no build

bomjbomj Member UncommonPosts: 184

I want to purchase a system that will allow me to play any game for the next 2-3 years.  I need a better system to play WAR and all new graphic intensive games

Any suggestions (I'm  a non-techy)

Where to purchase?

What graphics spec?

What processor?

Get on newegg. I don't have links but this is a good build:

    Core2duo E4300
ATI HD4850 (or HD4870 if you wanna spend more)
    Western Digital HD 500GB+
    PCI-E 2.0 / Core2duo compatible motherboard. (Intel or Nvidia)
    ~600W PSU (I recommend thermaltank )
4GB Corsair ram DDR2 (DDR3 if you can afford it)
    Windows Vista 64

Just get a good case with good ventilation and whatever.

The 420 PSU can handle everything?

  • bomjbomj Member UncommonPosts: 184

    What does that mean?

  • Vint4geVint4ge Member Posts: 25

I was merely asking if the 420W power supply that comes with the case would be able to handle everything on that machine.

  • bomjbomj Member UncommonPosts: 184

No clue.  I would like someones opinion.

If you are getting vista, you want 4 gigs min

The graphics card, i would aim towards a 4870 personally, thats the thing thats going to be doing most of the games work.

And you are going to need a much bigger power supply then a 420, atleast a 600.

2 gigs of DDR2 800 is like $50 for corsair XMS matched pair.$100-$150 if you want something fancy.

Vista may run "fine" with 2gigs, but 4, or even 3, would be alot better overall, it can be a real resource and power hog, and doesnt always play nice with multiple programs running.
