Well, in gaming, probably the most important aspect is the Graphics Card. You might want one with at least 512 MB of video memory. Then you want a good processor, and then good RAM. Get a dual-core processor, and at least 4 GB of RAM to future proof your system.
I would recommend Alienware for some good gaming laptops, or you could try HP. I just customized a gaming laptop there, and it's not that expensive.
I am the owner of an Alienware 9700 laptop, it works perfect and is basically a desktop computer. that being said you can get a much better desktop, for about half the price. I chose a laptop because I travel around for business and such, so it is handy. But if you really have no need for a laptop and just want to get it for the "I have a powerful laptop" effect, you are better off getting a desktop.
If you do get a laptop, Alienware are the best handsdown. Just get the 3yr warranty and you will never have to worry about anything.
Its pretty heavy duty... literally. This thing is huge, so its not portable, you need a desk to use this sucker, and its pretty heavy, I've tested it at a Frys electronics.
It also depends on what you're looking to spend too.
I was looking around at the laptops recommended and decided on the Alienware Area-51 m15x Laptop because it was in my price range and portable Here are the specs for the Alienware Area-51 m15x Laptop, I just want to double check that this will work for WAR before I go out and buy it Processor: 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme X9000

It also depends roughly on what your looking for in a gaming laptop. I'm seriously considering this one.
