This is a game about large-scale faction-on-faction pvp (which, if you read between the lines, means lots of instances). Not too immersive, not very community-oriented, and not really designed for those who like housing and crafting.
So, when you look past the hype (as you MUST DO in MMO game releases), I don't see this being a vast mega-game like WoW is.

The future of MMO's is not mega-games like WoW. It is exactly what you are describing, targeting specefic gaming audiences.

I hope they make a housing and crafting game that targets you, OP. But, since I never craft, and have never understood what I'm supposed to do with house in a game, your housing and crafting oriented game certainly wouldn't be targeting me.

There's nothing wrong with that, we NEED games that target different audiences, not something that tries to appeal to everyone, because that ends up being crap like WoW. We need those crappy WoW games to, that appeal to the masses, but there are a lot of people waiting for solid niche games targeted towards their preferred game play.

Devs would be stupid not to make these games, and pick up all the potential subs that are out there, but unwilling to play vanilla games like WoW.

Do I want to bake bread, and arrange furniture in my house and make it pretty? Not so much. I don't find that "immersive" in the least.

Do I want to kill greenskins, and take their capital city. Oh yes, now that is immersion.

UO, at its height, was around 250k

I personally expect WAR to surpass the original Everquest at its height of 500k

WAR is PvP focused but you're a little confused. It gives you freedom to choose whether you want to PvP OR PvE because both have a purpose and both contribute to the war effort. If you're a PvE player you don't even have to PvP at all, you can let them do all the work and then reap the benefits when they capture the enemy's capital and the dungeons in that capital are available to you. Also you assume RvR means lots of instances which is quite laughable at best. If you've been following WAR at all you'd know how much credibility you lost right there.

WAR has scenarios which are instanced, parts of the city siege are instanced, so what? How much of the game RvR is that? 10%? You don't even have to do scenarios, so more like 5%.

The crafting part you're correct on. This is not a crafter's game. However, overall WAR does the opposite of target a specific audience. Again the focus might be more on PvP, which means they might not have as good quality PvE as a PvE focused game, but it's not like the PvE is absent. On the contrary, there's more of a reason to do PvE than just getting gear and experience for yourself.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    So in other words,

you dont want to play because EVERYONE else isnt playing?

Thats a immature attitude for someone who claims they are a "Gamer".

And then you say you dont see it being a vast mega game like WoW is.

Really, who CARES? I dont. If it is a mega game like WoW great. If it isnt, GREAT.

Did you play Ultima ONline because it was popular?

Did you D&D because it was popular?

I do things because I ENJOY THEM.
The world/community doesnt choose for me.

I suggest that if you like the ideas of WAR, when open beta comes out, PLAY for a solid week and give up WoW for a whole week. Dont let the bias of POPULARITY influence your decision and then Ill be interested to see what you think.

    Think outside the box.

    Does your point matter?

Not to the folks enjoying the game.
