Watched the Video, very disappointed.

After watching the videos, i find my self in complete awe of this total failure to resemble SG-1 in the slightest. Im a huge fan of this IP and have been looking forward to this game for so long. And it appears we will all be let down by developers once again taking "artistic" freedom with an established IP and running it right into the ground.

I know its in "Alpha" Stage but its looks to me as if they are going to try and "appeal to everyone" like so many other MMO's have done and failed completely trying to do. You will never be able to please everyone, and when you try you end up alienating your fan base (i.e. SWG) so all you can do is please your fan base and hope to draw others in by the exceptional product you put out.

But from what i have seen (videos - screenshots) and read on the forums of SGWs i am completely disappointed in what i see.

Could you perhaps expand a little more on why you think it's disappointing?

SG-1 was all about the story and team dynamic. They've stated they plan on making this very much story-driven, with new "episodes" every 6 weeks or so that will continue the story AND raise the level cap.

As for the team dynamic, apart from the usual Guild system (called Commands here) they plan to add a system where you can register yourself and a few friends as a "team" without having to join a Command. Although there's little information about the way this will work or the benefits of it, it sounds to me like the Devs are aware of the whole team thing and are already planning to address that.

Yes, some things are different from the shows established canon. What many people continue to miss, however, is that whatever features in the game has been run past Brad Wright and Co, meaning it becomes canon. They've talked about their enthusiasm for some of the ideas the Devs have put into SGW and even hope to mention some of the stuff that happens in future SG-1 movies. Can you even begin to imagine the scope of that? They could run a huge quest thing, and the winners could end up being mentioned in a film and being forever remembered as part of the Stargate history!

A lot of people have said "it's not Stargate" but fail to realise the SG-1/Atlantis writers are hoping the Devs will do things they only wish they could do on the show. Many things we're going to see will probably be stuff they'd love to put into SG-1/Atlantis but can't due to the cost of doing so.

Daevian you are completely right. I think to many people expect to be runing around with just P-90's, zats and staffs and in flank jackets like SG1 wear, but remember people this isnt sg1 or atlantis its the stargate universe and ofcourse you will see different armour that seem less human since the mandate of stargate command was to aquire new technology  and we dont see all the new technology in the show like for example we saw the mack 2 naquada generator once for no reason and noone complained.

    It's like tracking the borg.

Watching the rabid fans of other games move from one game forum to the next bashing and pronouncig failure before the games are even released.

I don't see how or why people can actually give any kind of review based on videos they see online.  Videos hardly represent the entire scope of game play and mechanics that is found by playing the game.  I have seen many videos that don't accurately depict the game at all.  Some have made the game out to be crap and it turns out to be great, and others the very opposite.  I wish people would quit judging games simply on video previews coming out of alpha-beta stages of development.

You must also take into account that the game is still in alpha stage and preparing for beta stage... They can still change things, from all the episodes i have seen of SG-1 and atlantis it appears as if it staying pretty close to canon

    @ OP

OK you've stated here you're disappointed in what you've seen. Explain then exactly why you're disappointed? You kinda failed to specify what sections of the development you dislike. You generalised about IP but that's about it?

What exactly would you have done different?

I can't stand people who pop up "Waaagghh" threads without going into some decent detail as to why they're QQing?

It's not much to ask is it?

I just hope there is something to do besides shoot things.  I can only base my opinion on what I've seen in the videos, but from that, it's going to get old really fast.

The graphics seem a bit weak too.

However, if I will be able to actually explore places, find things and learn to use them, and interact with other cultures (besides shooting them), it might be worth my while.

    Blessed Be, BabooKyra
