The Ultimate MMORPG

OK here we go starting with:

1. The graphics quality of AOC

Everyone has to admit the graphic quatlity of this game is really what is groundbreaking.

2. The expansiveness and open play of EVE

Has to be the biggest game ever

3. The PVP excitment and group PVP of DAOC (includes siege)

What can you say, first game to introduce seige and set the benchmark.

4. The Sandbox of Ultima Online

Seriously has to be the most customisable game ive ever played. Especially houseing and endgame.

5. The Melee combat system of AOC(revison 1.2)

Ill give AOC that the melee combat system is something that i am starting to miss from mmorpg's now in some ways. I think its more to do with white damage swings. (this is the melee system at launch not the mess it is now)

6. The story line of LOTRO

Have to admit the immersive story of LORTO is very good, and the functionatlity that they made it. Want to wait till later to get immersed, fine come back when your ready.

7.  The gear of WOW.

Ok well this is a positive negative, i beleive its overboard now. But yes the choices in WOW for gear will make your head explode.

8. The GUI of LOTRO.

I think this is the first online MMORPG that physcially comes out of the box that lets you move around 90% of the GUI to your liking and to scale it.

9. The character customisation of Ultima Online.

This game gives you an open slatter when you start. You dont choose a class in this game you make one. FYI for the unitiated this game is 10 years old now.

10. Best implementation of servers worldwide goes to Ultima Online.

UO was the first and only company to still have a gaming server in the southern hemisphere. Aust/NZ and its island rejoyce. Warhammer has implemented a southern hemisphere server! <3

11. CoH and CoV has the best character customization.

Quoted by Ascension08 . Have to agree the best physical character itemisation ive ever seen.

12. Best Map Quest System goes to AOC.

As stated as far as far as map quest systems out of the box go.... <as long as you dont get "grey maps".

So guys whats your top 10.

<my vain attempt to spruce up these AOC forums :P>

#1 - Player models are nice but some of the environment textures in AoC are crap, like, oh I don't know, cotton ball trees. LotRO kicks AoC's ass when it comes to environment but has worse character detail. But it can be run on a toaster and still look decent, so AoC is beat there.

    You're right on #2.

    #3 - Hell yeah!

#4 - Probably why so many people want another game like it.

#5 - A disputed point, some people think it's more intuitive and fun, others think it's unnecessary hassle.

#6 - LotRO has one of the best stories and Turbine does an excellent job of putting it in their game.

#7 - WoW is definitely gear based, one of my biggest gripes with it...

#8 - Until WAR comes out

#9 - CoH has the best character customization in my opinion.

    #10 - GOO AUSSIES!!!!

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

Care to express where Darkfall fits in the top 10? Keen to hear about it.

    8. The GUI of LOTRO.
I think this is the first online MMORPG that physcially comes out of the box that lets you move around 90% of the GUI to your liking and to scale it.

    VERY wrong.

You cannot move the bottom bar, short of loading an external GUI and then having to edit config files.

You cannot resize the interface without pixellization due to the interface not being mapped 1 to 1 (this means when you resize the screen from say 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 that the bottom bar resizes with that size, it stays at 1280x1024 max...this is something that EVERY other game does). The fonts on some mouseovers stay at their 8pt teeny size.

Now, look at Guild Wars, which allows multi sizing, 1 to 1 pixel matching, multi font resize, placement of ALL bars including the health and energy bars being seperated, seperate sizability on different aspects (I can make my experience bar huge, while leaving health, or something else small)

    LOTRO GUI is horrible.

(EDIT: Agree with Ascension08...that is until WAR, which right now has the most amazing UI capabilities...oh and one more add. The only BEST thing AoC does is the map. AoC's map is the best I have ever seen, LOTRO the worst (hate a map that takes up my whole screen so I can't move while reading it) and I have seen some screens of the WAR map doing the same thing. Hope they get a mini-map.)

         1. AoC is hardly groundbreaking.....Oblivion had the same graphics and it has been out for a couple years already.

    2. Not too difficult when you're a spaceship and most of the game play is done offline.

    3. Warhammer will blow away DAoC's total customer base on day 1.

    4. Funny how so many people think this game was so great yet it didnt have all that many players and most didnt join until Trammell was introduced.

    5. gets boring and repetitive after awhile.

    6. LoTRO does havea great storyline but its kinda hard to give credit to Turbine when Tolkien wrote the story for them....All they are doing is following it.

    7. WoW did nothing innovative in the MMO field......EQ has alot more gear than WoW will ever have.

    8. I agree the UI is very nice for making adjustments.....

    9. More UO?? Come on this game was nothing special...Theres a reason why there wasnt a UO2 and why no one else chose to follow their model......Companies followed EQ's style because it is what most people prefer.

    10. UO again?? Im guessing you must be a fanboi of this game or it was your first game..... Considering the amount of players they have to deal with I think you have to go with WoW and how well they adjusted to their player base with providing enough quality servers to handle that many players......UO's servers never had to handle many people at all......

Oh yeh i agree, i did say 90% out of the box yeh? I agree, but more importantly.... Warhammer has this and more? Sounds awesome!. Will update the OP as i agree also.

You really hit a lot dead on.

Finwe on microphones in MMOs: "it'd eliminate l33t speak....But it would bring in ebonics."

Hey mate point 9 and 10 you bring up well:

#9 i mean with how you developed your character.... there were no set classes you would make your toon how you felt. I had a few random high level stupid toons i called them, with skills like herding just to try them out. In the later parts of the games very active life, they became surpisingly interesting skills.

#10 this one i am a sucker for, i am from Australia we never get a local game server. AUST/NZ and the rest that fall into this category will benefit here. Do i really need to explain more?

Oh and back in the day UO's servers handled the most people ever back in the day and dealt first hand with the numbers that we laugh at today.

Your so quick to compare today's technology with back then .... wow now im not sure why i even bothered responding to your blatant mindless rant............ guess you got me at a weak moment.

    Over to you sir.
