1 year ago, vanguard was almost worst than aoc, but SoE did good work during this last year it seems, personnaly i was at vanguard launch, decided like for aoc, to quit the crap and never come back.
anyway you changed from pvp game to pve game thats pretty radical
I think both are ok-ish, but I have been playing really casual at the moment.
I kind of wished I kept LOTRO on the go, but I gave my copy away when I moved country from UK to Japan, and can't be bothered getting a new copy, cancelling AOC or VG, and setting up new LOTRO account. LOTRO was ok, not amazing but ok.
I play casual so I am modestly happy with both VG and AOC. But I dont feel really inspired/engaged and play out of boredom than anything else.
However, as soon as something really splendid comes along then I may just focus on that one "splendid" game.
However, I do feel a bit pessimistic about the state of the mmorpg market. I will never, ever pre-order a game again and you can forget me going anywhere near rip-off CEs. Funcom really pissed me off with their CE...it was the nail in the coffin.
Now I wont touch any future games until that game is "ready" to deliver a reasonable experience. I think these last few years have hardened a lot of gamers and made them more cynical. Most of my mmo mates - a small circle to be sure - have also said they will never pre-order games in the future based on their experience of getting burned too much by shoddy releases over the past few years.
We are mad as hell and we're not gonna take it anymore.
I moved to VG and it is excellent. Albeit pve oriented which is what I prefer anyway and a combat system that has some depth to it. Not that I didn't like some aspects of AoC's combat system I just hated the combos. I liked the direction attacks. Anyway VG has a much more indepth combat system overall then any other game. Still has some bugs but nothing gamebreaking or performance breaking so I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I still wonder every day why some people will only play the worst games. Must be the elitist feeling I guess. Some people never learn.
Vanguard is one of the best games available right now, it has one of the best optimized engines around. You obviously haven't played it recently. i am interested to see what you consider to be the best games. I can think of only a couple games that are as good or better than Vanguard. That is LOTRO and WoW.
After playing AoC, it made me realize what I really enjoy about MMORPGs and it wasn't AoC. It is having a big open world with a lot of content, being able to explore, being able to discover new things while playing your 10th alt.
Right now Vanguard is a PvE game, but there is a FFA PvP server, just not many people on there. It could be sooo good though if they would give the PvP a little attention and more folks started playing on there. It is a catch 22 though with the PvP server, no one plays there because there is no one to PvP with (or not very many people).
VG isn't terrible but top tier um no. I played it early this year and I enjoyed myself mostly but bugs are still present, ie /stuck yes is your friend. Optimised not so much, get much better FPS in AoC on high than VG on balanced. But the biggy for me was the low zone variety, death penalty and just plain no one around until 40+. The diplomacy and crafting are terrible as well.
If you like VG you really should be playing EQ2... and thats where I landed after VG. Traded my Raki Disciple for an Iksar Bruiser and never looked back.
I run Vanguard on Max settings with forced 4xAA @ 1680 x 1050. It runs smoother with higher FPS than Age of Conan. I also haven't had to use the /stuck command in VG in a long time. In comparison I used /stuck in Age of Conan a few days ago while I was playing on Tyranny. For some reason I hit a spot near the pict encampment on Tortage beach and couldn't move at all ... until I used /stuck.
Vanguard - Camel Mounts Age of Conan - No Camel Mounts
Vanguard wins!
pixilated boobs or pixilated camel rides......hmmmmm.. I will take pixilated boobs for 500 Alex
When SOE decides to put their money where their mouth is and off a free trial for Vanguard I will take another look at it , but as of now I would not touch it with a ten foot pole.
I have to agree with the poster above and wonder why so many people take pride in playing the crappiest games on the market.
How many play vanguard now? Three? Seriously, I played a couple characters to 60 and quit and will never go back. SOE has ruined every game (except original eq which sucks by todays standards). I will never get over SWG -NGE..SOE can burn in hell.
Its funny that you mention Vanguard...considering it's the one true example of why AoC can be saved.
A year ago Vanguard was damn near unplayable but instead of shelfing it (A concept that SOE refuses to accept) they stuck with it and worked out all the major bugs.
The problem now is that the reputation it earned during the bad times is biting it in the butt.
Servers are almost barren and the 1 pvp server is down right empty.
But..Its a great game and one of the games i own.
Maybe we should look no further then Vanguard for hope when it comes to AoC.
Several guildmates and I all left AoC after the first couple months to check out Vanguard. The fact that AoC is a terrible game with the potential to eventually turn into something great reminded us of our feelings about Vanguard. So yeah, we checked it out. The game is actually experiencing a renaissance right now with a significant influx of new players. (Many of them being AoC refugees like ourselves.) It's going to see another population boom soon, when they release the trial version. (Along with a new starting experience, more end game content, and better-looking character models.)
Almost all of us have chosen to stick with Vanguard, at least until WAR comes out and possibly beyond. The huge open world made us realize just how claustrophobic AoC's instances felt. The classes are overall more inspired, and there are more of them. Gameplay itself has a ton more depth to it. Crafting is REALLY deep and genuinely meaningful with even lowbie crafters able to create things that sell like hotcakes. Diplomacy is filled with lore, and strangely addictive once you get the hang of it. Some people love crafting and/or diplomacy while others hate them. But isn't it nice to have options?
Another really cool thing about Vanguard is the sheer volume of content. I swear it's possible to level a half dozen characters halfway through the game without even duplicating a single quest if you wanted to. It's just staggering how many quests we delete because they've turned grey before we can get to them.
Ultimately, Vanguard is a guided sandbox. It gives you many, many more options than AoC even attempts to offer, but also never leaves you flailing around wondering what to do. I really like that blending.
As for performance, I can run Vanguard with virtually maximized settings with fps equivalent to what I had to disable shadows and other stuff for in AoC.
And that's coming from someone who absolutely loathed Vanguard during beta and at launch.
How many play vanguard now? Three? Seriously, I played a couple characters to 60 and quit and will never go back. SOE has ruined every game (except original eq which sucks by todays standards). I will never get over SWG -NGE..SOE can burn in hell.
Wow! Level 60?
I always thought the level cap was 50 ....
Oh yeah, it is 50!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say .... You've never played Vanguard.
*Edit*
Jasz, the huge difference between VG and AoC is that with each patch Vanguard got better ... AoC on the other hand has gotten worse with each patch.
There is a small chance for AoC (As there was for VG), but with each patch that chance is getting smaller and smaller.

The huge difference is in the type of game m8. I played Vanguard at launch and trust me it didn't get better with each patch.
For the first month or so it got a lot worse and at one point about a month into it was down right unplayable.
I do agree that AoC is going the wrong direction at the moment but if hard-headed SOE can flip a U-turn then so can Funcom.
Guess we might just have to agree to disagree on this one. I've read some of your posts before and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders but I'm just not willing to throw in the towel on this game...especially after seeing what happened with Vanguard.
P.S. By the way I agree with you about Whire01...I don't think he's ever even tried VG
Originally posted by Jackdog When SOE decides to put their money where their mouth is and off a free trial for Vanguard I will take another look at it , but as of now I would not touch it with a ten foot pole. Way to look a into a given hand, or what to say. It almost sounds as you think the upcomin trial island is fake. I have to agree with the poster above and wonder why so many people take pride in playing the crappiest games on the market. Ok. So are yet another one that thinks that when people enjoys something that you dont they are stupid. Please tell me what I should like so I know what is ok for you.
People preaching how good Vanguard is right now are almost comical. That game is still as bad as AoC and has even less players. 1 year after launch and Vanguard is still in the bottom 10 of all MMO games out there. Only games like MxO, SWG, PotBS, Tabula Rasa, and the like are WORSE than Vanguard. It's better than it was a year ago but the game is still very much dead and isn't going to get drastically better.
Comical to me is when people just browse a forum and try to make a semi objective comment on something they have no clue about.
Seriously, why are people always posting untrue facts like this, with maybe haven seen the game 6 months ago for the last time or something similar. Nobody forces you to like the game, but if you state hard facts like this you should be able to back them up with something. I don't talk about rocket science as well, as I have no clue about it.
On top you foresee the future of the game as well based on your wrong facts from above. It is fine to post your opinion and that you don't like the game, but if you judge it and first foremost judge the people who post about it you should bring something more to the table than saying what you say.

/agree this guy has probably never played VG.
I quit VG for AoC, then realised there are some fundemental problems with AoC, like zoning, instancing, quick levelling, content crammed in etc that I do not like in a game.
So I quit AoC and went back to VG.
I am not the only one, a lot of people left VG for AoC only to come back, with the win back program SOE have ran, my current VG guild has never been so popular.
Isle of Dawn looks pretty good, I can see VG gaining a lot of new players.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
I played EQ2 for two years, and AoC for two months. I get better FPS in Vanguard on high settings than in either of the other two games. I also strongly prefer the combat system and expansive world in Vanguard to the other two games. These are personal preferences, mind you, but they are based upon experience.
But even more importantly, I prefer the Vanguard classes and Vanguard dungeons over the classes and dungeons in the other two games. Vanguard may not have been a top tier MMO at launch or at any time last year. But it is now. Sure there are a few glitches that remain...such as getting stuck occaisionally, along with a few UI bugs. But I had more glitches occur in EQ2 than in Vanguard--such as disappearing mobs, that were still beating on me, etc. As a general package, I much prefer Vanguard to the other two. To each his own. But if you havent really given Vanguard a solid chance, then you are missing out on a fine game.
However, I wouldnt consider myself a Vanboi. Its just a game and its not perfect. It has its good points and its bad points. At this point in time, it is simply my game of choice.
I havent played Vanguard, but did play EQ for 5 years, and just cancelled my AoC account, I have been paying alot of attention to the Vanguard forums, and majority of people are actually happy and having alot of fun in Vanguard, it was actually shocking to see alot of positive things about Vanguard considering all the negativity at the AoC forums, I will most likely purchase Vanguard in the coming weeks and give it a try, like i said, alot of good posts from people, so thats encouraging to say the least.

50-60-100 Doesn't matter it's wasted time I will never get back. And yeah I played it *snip* - Mod, just don't dwell on how lame it ran and how broken everything was. Its no secret the game was release unfinished and I wasn't the first to leave. The guild I was in had 60 strong and when I quit there was only 3 left. Sorry your limb failed as much as vanguard did.

Every day I see more and more new players logging into this game, and they are having fun. The guild I am in has added 20 new members in the last ten days.
