Game Suggestions Based On My Criteria

JaelJael Member Posts: 12

Hi everyone!

It's that time again, it seems, I'm looking for a new game. The mmorpg.com community has helped me with great suggestions in the past.

I'm looking for a game that's visually appealing (great graphics and stunning scenery) and like kind of a cartoony style. I need a great and mature community. Love adventure-style games and exploring the worlds aside from "killing things". Not a huge fan of magic, spells, and mystical creatures, but I might have to get used to that. I would love to be able to build and craft. For some reason I love the idea of transportation, have my own vehicle, whatever it may be, I guess to make exploring even more fun, though I realize that may not happen.

That said, I am definitely into your traditional killing/defeating to level, and missions or enemies that require teamwork. I'm pretty competitive. I would also like the ability to customize my character (visually and enhancing powers by crafting).

I have played City of Heroes/Villains for nearly 3 years. I like it a lot but need a break. Played Guild Wars for a couple of weeks (it bored me), and WoW for a couple of hours (not sure what was wrong). Also tried EVE (very interesting but not quite what I was looking for) and Ryzom (just didn't grab me, maybe too traditional).

I think that's it and would very much appreciate any suggestions based on my criteria. Thanks a lot in advance!

Jael :)

    Hello Jael,

Vanguard seems to be the perfect game for you.  VG has a very depth crafting system (and players can also build houses and boats), as well as very appealing graphics.  It is a completely uninstanced world, so you can explore to your hearts content.  It has a great community, always willing to help new players out and answer their questions; one of the most mature communities I have ever seen.  Things you may not like is the character customization (although that will be upgraded GU6 I believe)

I know people cringe at even the thought of it, but have you tried Vanguard? Yeah it has had it's problems but somehow SOE turned it around (I'm still in shock). It may not be the perfect MMO for you but I'd say it's worth a try if you've tried both Eve and WoW.  There are an insane number of mounts/ships that you can choose from and the crafting, which isn't something that really interests me, is actually quite fun. Again, I'd say its worth a try.

My other suggestion is Lord of the Rings Online. There isn't as much choice in terms of transpotation (really just horses) but everything else seems to fit your criteria. It is definitely one of the better looking MMOs out there, despite what people say, and will run on most computers. And the community is one of the best out there, you'll find tons of mature and active guilds (especially with the upcoming expansion). Exploration is not as good, at least compared to Vanguard, but there still is quite a bit. And of course if you are a Lord of the Rings fan than you'll love this game even more.

Those are both my suggestions, can't really say which one is better than the other. They both have their strong points in weak points but I think if you give each a try (think lotro has a trial) you'll fall in love with one of them.

Take a look at FFXI, very tough game though, it wont be easy leveling, but very group friendly and lots to explore. Graphics look good on high resolutions if you ask me ;p

    Heya!

Thank you for the replies, despite me posting in the wrong forum!

Vanguard does sound a whole lot like the game I'm looking for, even has several features I was hoping for but didn't even mention in my post.

Lord of the Rings has most of what I'm looking for, and looks a lot better than Vanguard.

So I will get me a copy of Vanguard on eBay and try LotR in the meantime. I really appreciate you all taking the time to post. This looks very promising and I'm excited!
