A brief comparison between the gameplay features of pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies and two upcoming post-apocalyptic sandbox MMORPGs, Fallen Earth and Earthrise:
Great find, although I didn't know that FE was going to be FFA pvp; which is a turn-off. Was hoping that it would be faction based at least. I do like ER's idea of consequence for faction killing though, sounds interesting.
i've been following FE for a looooong time.just getting into the nuts and bolts of ER.TBH there so similar that the 1st one launch might have more sucess(FE),provided its not a heap of steaming crap of course.
I think i'm going to re-read the deathgate cycle instead of playing these braindead games. My imagination won't be limited to 'the quest grind', 1-dimensional NPC's, and low frame per second generated headaches.
Here in the world of stone, the Sartan intended it to power the other worlds, but they ended up trying to survive by burrowing deeper for warmth, and turning to the dark art of necromancy. Even Haplo is disgusted.

I think you got it backwards
Fallen Earth has zoned PVP... meaning if you want to PVP you have to go to a certain area. NOT Free for all.
edit: I see what you read now... I figure the FFA tag should be reserved for games that allow you to PVP anywhere... that is not the case with FE.
and it is very much faction based... SIX factions to choose from.

Well I read in a question of the week that you would be able to have a guild with players from various factions...I don't see how it can be very faction based pvp if you can have a guild of CHOTA, Enforcers, Vistas, etc.
SWG was the same though... you could form a guild with Rebs and Imps, if you wanted.
Still, a lot of guilds were strictly Reb only or Imp only. It was more immersive and useful in the PVP scene to know your guild members are on the same side as you. The dual-faction ones were mostly just social guilds.
I'm pretty sure it won't be game-breaking in FE if some people are allowed to make multi-faction guilds.
Still, I think I'd prefer if only people of the same faction could form a clan together... but its not a big issue for me.
I get depressed when i read how good SWG actually was. Years before anyone else. Anyway, FE is on the right track.
Good features alone do not make a good game. Feature-wise, Neocron was ahead of its time as well, but due to the lousy implementation it couldn't keep me. Ended up in EvE for now
Aside of that, the linked article gives a nice overview over what we can expect. More FPS-like combat sounds nice. Free for all PvP also, even if replacing looted items can be a bit of drag when you are on the loser side.
And I'm definitely looking forward to a game with deep crafting system, especially considering the history of EvE which has left latecomers like me with a lasting disadvantage (no more new Tech II BPOs). So I will probably take a vacation from EvE when FE, Earthrise or Jumpgate Evolution come out.

Yes Rab your right...but SWG pre cu was one of the greatest games ever made... challenging, TONS of features, WAY ahead of its time, good graphix (at the time), you are completly free to do whatever you like in that u can play the game in Many, MANY differ ways. I mean just think about it... The new MMO players are amazed at having some stupid horse as a mount when SWG has fuckin space-ships and land vehicles that can freakin carry 30 people and not only that but are COMPLETLY customizable.
It pisses me off that all these other developers dont start off the road that SWG fell off of. i know HUNDREDS of people that would to this day still be playing SWG if they didnt fuck it up. It pains me that Devs these day dont seem to use the technology thats available to them and just plainly stick to the lazy ass way of making MMO's...copying games like WoW ><.
Im really glad that fallen earth is taking there OWN route and learning from the games that they should be learning from not the ones that got lucky. (WoW)
