You can only use about 3GB on a 32bit OS, if you switch to vista 64 you can use the 4GB... 2 is enough unless you want to add the 4 and get the 3 out of it in dual channel with intel based mobos.
Actually, you can run 4GB including the graphic cards memory.
Anyways, get the 4 gigs, the difference in price is small for what you get, the computer performs a lot better with it. You don't really need it to play games unless youre playing AoC or something other with high end graphics but everything goes better, and vista sucks memory like nothing else.
You can never have too much cash, a too good jobb or too much RAM.

Vista itself uses something nearing 1.5gb of RAM so grab yourself 4gb,RAM is very cheap so it wont cost you an arm and a leg and you will be happy you did when it comes to gamming.
Also like another poster has said your RAM wont go too waste even though Vista will only show 3.5gb of your 4gb.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I would think that 2GB is enough for Vista, but then my system is 32 bit not 64...

I use 8 gigs of DDR2 1066, but I'm running 64bit.
