I have noticed that a lot of players will tell you, that they leveled to the cap or played for 6 months and now they hate the game and it sucks. If a game keeps you entertained for 100 plus hours and then you got bored of it is not bad game. You just need to move on and play something else right?

Okay.
But you're right. Anyone that plays 100 hours then says a game sucks gets no sympathy from me.
Sure, why not?
Well in a way yes, compared to single player games 100 hours of gameplay is quite a success. For an MMO I would say 100 days of gameplay keeping a player entertained is a success. Mostly because MMOs depend on active subscriptions to continue being in business. 100 hours of gameplay is toast in that first month. Sure, they sold 800k+ copies (not that I'm refering to a specific game), but if they cannot hold player-base then it fails as an MMO.

100 Hours of game play will last me 4 months or more depending on my work load. I guess part of the reason MMO are moving more toward the casual player base is because the Hardcore players will always burn through the content very quickly .
I've spent 200+ hours plyaing FF7 in my life time and I still love the game. Other games I've played for 2-3 and got bored of.
The whole point of a MMO is you can keep it fresh and add new things. You should never get bored because if its made well there should always be something interesting that appeals to you. Ok so games can't appeal to everyone then if a certain game doesn't appeal to you, don't play and and find something that does.
It's just bitterness. Once people play a game that long, they stop seeing the game itself and see the promise it might hold to them if it changed a little bit. Then when the game doesn't change just to meet their expectations, they get angry.
So can we say the game only fun to play for 100 hours? After 100 hours then it sucks. BTW, is 100 hours like machine life time for all games?
Just to play devil's advocate here, I've played Civ4 for hundreds of hours and only had to play the box price. If I only play a mmo for 100 hours and have payed the box price plus multiple months of subscription fees, then what does that say for the mmo? The point I'm getting at here is that mmos are supposed to be (at least imo) long term endeavors. They shouldn't only last six months, they should last *years*. So yeah, a mmo that only keeps my attention for six months is imo a bad mmo.
Very good point that I agree with but I have to add I agree with the posters statement as well I have never played a game for 100+ hours only to swear I hate the game but mmos should definitely hold you rattention much much longer than a console game
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I disagree with what most had said here.
MMOs are like a movie, I don't care how good the first 2 hours were, if the last 5 min happens too fast or it ends with no meaning, the movie is a BIG FAILURE !
And MMOs are no different, sometimes it takes time to realize the game sucks a big one.
I agree completely, although I think your analogy is misplaced.
The whole point of an MMO, at least in my mind, is to be able to play forever. That is, after all, why we pay for the service, isn't it? I mean, if we just wanted multiplayer we could go play Diablo or the like. No, I really believe that MMOs should be designed to keep players playing forever, constantly providing them a mixture of new content and SUBTLE time sinks to keep them busy. The problem with games like WoW is that the "old" content becomes obsolete VERY quickly, and this trend continues until you reach the end and are suddenly pigeonholed into one or two raids. I suppose one could argue a case for the Heroic badges but there's not THAT much gear available for them.
Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that you can play a game for 100 hours, but if you suddenly run out of things to do or even FEEL like all of that time was pointless, regardless of whether you enjoyed it or not, suddenly the game is terrible and a waste of time. It's not *ALL* about having fun. MMOs are supposed to have a sense of ownership and accomplishment with them as well.
What makes some of the best movies out there the best?
Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean. Lord of the Rings, Stargate Series just to name a few of my favorites.
Everyone of these titles have something in common, the characters progress, you get to live the story line, you feel like your part of it.
What happen if Fodo just drop the ring in the first movie ? Would you really feel part of the movie? Would you feel it was a epic adventure? Would you feel the sadness, the happiness?
Whats makes a MMO a MMO, its the adventure. The adventures continue, while your progressing.
Unfortunately MMO are being dumb down way too much and players are getting to the end game way to fast.
Its far more important to me in how you got there not when you got there.
Well theoretically if you're talking about an MMOG then the whole point is that if the developers are doing their jobs (and you aren't a power gamer that pisses through the content at 100 KPH) they should update the game often enough to keep it fresh content-wise so that the players don't get bored with it. Some designers do and some don't. I do agree with the assertion that just because you reached the endgame and got bored doesn't necessarily mean the game sucks. I mean if it did then why did it keep your attention for 100 hours of gameplay?

I played WoW since February 2004 and had 2x3 month breaks in there. I recently returned as there is nothing out there at the moment that really peaks my interest. Unfortunately it has nothing to offer me anymore and after 3 weeks I canceled my subscription. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I just don't like the changes that Blizzard made and the lack of new content. I may return for WotLK but I think will be more of the same, and I don't like some of the new developments, so I think it's time to move on.
I guess what I'm trying to say that I have about 100 days played (gametime) on all 4 of my level 70s, my level 62 and my new lvl39. 100 hours is nothing...
The idea that an MMO is supposed to keep you playing 'forever' is ludicrous.
Its pollyanna pie-in-the-sky ludicrous.
These are just finite games, and finite things can be explored and exhausted in a finite amount of time.
People like Yasarigos, who are powergamers, will blow through content faster than you can sneeze, no matter how big the game is, or how hard the developers work to pump out new content. Players can always blow through it faster than it can be developed.
To become angry at a game, because you have blown through the content faster than the devs could crank it out is also ludicrous. It childish. Its a game, for godssake...not a LIFE! Your fascination with it will fade over time...its inevitable.
The idea that all the content contained in an MMO is just a blip on the screen till you can get to 'end game' is also ludicrous. Radio Alert: There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. End game in most MMOs is the 'end of the road', and the beginning of endless ennui, such as faction grinding or loot grinding, err, I mean raiding. These 'end game' activities may be fun the first few times you do them, but after that they become tedious (at least in my experience). If you dont want to roll another alt to experience the 'road' then its time to move onto another game. And yes....all games are ultimately pointless. Their ONLY point, if they have one, is to have fun. Period.
If you aint having fun from day one and at every step of the way, then why are you playing? To fulfill some need for existential purpose in an otherwise meaningless existence? Better to get a real life than seek your vicarious fulfillment in a finite virtual world, where you WILL ultimately be disappointed and lose interest.
The reason people get mad and bitter about the game they have played for 100+ hours is because they have developed an emotional dependency upon the game, which the game is no longer fulfilling, and cannot ever ultimately fulfill. When they realize this, they feel like rejected lovers. What is the old saying? There is no wrath like that of a scorned woman? Thats right. People who behave like this are emotionally immature trolls, and not worth listening to.
Civ 4 is amazing though. One of the best PC games ever made I think, and definitely the best turn based Strat game.
