People choose everyday where to spend their time and more importantly their 14.95 a month. That is why the most relevant comparison is between two games in their current state. It doesn't matter that one game just launched. If people find more value for their time/money somewhere else they are gone.
Perhaps in 4 years Conan will get everything worked out and make a challenging comparison to WoW as it is today, but the people will still be gone if it is not compelling enough to retain today.
To be completey honest... I wanted this game to suceed more than anything else in this world the last year or so. New. Fresh. Innovative. I was left, however, with a sour taste in my mouth the second that people started exploiting on day 1, and nothing was done. Soon after I reached lvl 50 and realized there was nothing but empty content. I had run out of quests, grinding became the norm, etc. I can totally understand end game not being ready at launch. Honestly, I can. But when the middle portions of the game arent complete, there is a serious problem.
Soon after this, I started a guild to find more people to play with. Got up to over 100 people. Got our guild city plot locked in.. one of the nicest ones in the entire game, to boot, as far as location is concerned. Then I realized, and this was my fault, that the guild city sieges were removed from the game months before. OK, I can deal with that. My bad, I'll move on. Here was the kicker...
We go to build our keep, and ***POOF*** all our mats, recipes, everything , vanish.. and.. no keep. For WEEKS and WEEKS I try as the GM to get my mats back... to give my guild SOMETHING to look forward to... something for all the hard work they put in.. and nothing. I mean seriously..... the most original and integral part of the guild system in this game (which is horrible to deal with if your a GM let me tell you) and it doesnt even work right...
Needless to say soon after that incident getting people to help farm levels, professions, etc, were all pointless. Why? Funcom would just make another error and take away our hard work, and not even bother replying to our cries for help.
I can deal with a game in an incomplete state. Anyone who thinks a game is released 100% ready is dillusional... but for God's sake.. at least have the core mechanics of your game in order. And at the very least if that fails have a way to track these things and get the mats back to these people. I know guilds who lost EVERYTHING because of this happening to them...
2 full years, waiting patiently ever single day... collecting all of the pre order rewards, keeping up with all the stories and hype.. and yet nothing. I feel betrayed, scammed, and a little bit confused. I know one thing.. Funcom , in my eyes at least, are finished. I don't think it's me thats living in a state of denial, I think some people are just ticked off because no one is catering to the famous line "Funcom promised us and they lied", there are so many people still playing that enjoy the game. I see guild announcements coming up all day long on all 3 of the servers I play on and about 95% of them have over 200+ members, in fact im in 2 guilds now that have over 300 + members in it, and no they aren't all alts because ive been on raid after raid with different people from the guild.
Besides that all your screenshotting is 1 server and that doesn't even proove that every guild on that server is leaving, gonna need to come with more facts than a screenshot, I see people here and there in chat talk about quitting and yet those same 1s are back the next day and the next day after that.
As Far as guilds using exploits do you honestly think that it just occurs here, got a news flash for you it's happening in every other mmo too, those people just haven't been caught or people are making false claims against a guild they don't like because they are better than them.

I still play the game, but i am not stupid enough to believe there is but a hand full of people hating and leaving the game, Servers are loosing life by the day, Zones i have been in last week had 2-3 instances running, all this week, even old tarantia and noble district had 1 instance, as well as khopsef, Wild lands.. ect...
I find it hard to believe people hate this game entirely, I think a majority refuse to pay untill the game releases A) more high end content that was promised after launch, and the PvP patch.
This game is looking to just fill a nitche crowd, down the road it may garner more interest, as it does have a solid foothold, but Funcom really needs to pick up the pace, having sold 800k copies of the game, thats a large incom, but i understand if they do not want to re-spend that money in the game otherwise they end up with nothing if they can't get people back into the game.

I would like you to give us more concrete information as to why the game is still so great and playable as it is for you in your Costa Rica of MMO-gaming. Because unlike us, you have only been spitting out guffaws between those nasty beaver-teeth things of your's. Most of us have been reviewing the game in it's current state: declining.
AoC isn't a bad game. It's just a shoebox that's half empty. One shoe isn't enough for it to be worth using.
I believe Paragus1's story about t he exploiter. Why the hell wouldn't Failcom want to pinch as big of a penny as it could before crashing because if you would look out the right-side passenger window, the plane is already on fire.

How do you know they weren't investigated and found not guilty ? You are using something you saw on a forum as proof of in-game cheating . Which isn't really proof of in-game cheating , Funcom has no control over what they post on their forums. True, in-game screenshots and screenshots of the threads with more detail would have been better. But I've been through these scenarios before on WoW and other games, calling for a GM and getting no attention to the problem even after talking through it. Admittedly with them there would be no controversy over whether it's "Wa-wa, a scam to make another 14$ by the end of the month!" There will be skeptics abound now, as I've proven myself to be (and I do sincerely apologize).

No need to apologize , I have thicker skin than that . Like I said I'm not implying Paragus was lying , in fact quite the contrary . His proof was definitely enough to warrant an investigation of the matter . Whether that took place we'll probably never know . It's also not out of the ballpark to think they may be desperate enough for subs, to let these things slide.

I suppose that's true. I for one in my short trials of the game hadn't any real problems or dealings with bugs so I suppose I was overtly lucky. Then again I only played sparsely compared to my friend who was more active with it. And I also suppose we picked a mild server - can't remember the name now - as I never saw anything I could call a bot or an exploit.
Like that glitch he had in Old Tarantia where he could walk through the buildings - no collision mapping. It's a more humorous thing after a while, because he was outside the city while still in the city's instance.
I see what you mean about that. I haven't heard many stories of people being banned, but then again a bot can't complain on the forums.

So you can screenshot and complain all that you want, but fact is there is just a handful of people that hate the game and a majority that still plays and that disagrees with you...look around the forums if you think that I am the only person here that thinks this way.....
This is my last post with this thread because it really isn't going anywhere, ive realized that this isn't the only forums for mmo's for 1 and I also realized that I am wasting my time with people that really have no clue or inside concrete information about the status of this or any other game....

They are still playing! Look at the picture of the Tyranny forums, that picture was taken TODAY. The PM with Famine was from earlier this month, and all of this has been sent to the exploits email @funcom weeks before this.

I still play the game, but i am not stupid enough to believe there is but a hand full of people hating and leaving the game, Servers are loosing life by the day, Zones i have been in last week had 2-3 instances running, all this week, even old tarantia and noble district had 1 instance, as well as khopsef, Wild lands.. ect...
I find it hard to believe people hate this game entirely, I think a majority refuse to pay untill the game releases A) more high end content that was promised after launch, and
the PvP patch.
This game is looking to just fill a nitche crowd, down the road it may garner more interest, as it does have a solid foothold, but Funcom really needs to pick up the pace, having sold 800k copies of the game, thats a large incom, but i understand if they do not want to re-spend that money in the game otherwise they end up with nothing if they can't get people back into the game.
I would like you to give us more concrete information as to why the game is still so great and playable as it is for you in your Costa Rica of MMO-gaming. Because unlike us, you have only been spitting out guffaws between those nasty beaver-teeth things of your's. Most of us have been reviewing the game in it's current state: declining.
AoC isn't a bad game. It's just a shoebox that's half empty. One shoe isn't enough for it to be worth using.
I believe Paragus1's story about t he exploiter. Why the hell wouldn't Failcom want to pinch as big of a penny as it could before crashing because if you would look out the right-side passenger window, the plane is already on fire.

How do you know they weren't investigated and found not guilty ? You are using something you saw on a forum as proof of in-game cheating . Which isn't really proof of in-game cheating , Funcom has no control over what they post on their forums. It would be wrong for them to ban an entire guild over something they posted on a forum, not controlled by funcom.

Oh, so you were , Well answer me this . What in-game proof did paragus show that this guild is cheating? A forum post about a bot is not in-game proof ,Remember I didn't call his information false , I said it's not giving substantial evidence of it being used in game.There's a huge difference, Look at the many threads here pointing out they were banned "unjustifiably". Well I suppose, and in review you have your point. My apologies for sounding like a jagass there, just been immature about most of AoC related things today... Lots of jokes with a friend about the game who had quit it after a month or two and not really digging it.
True, in-game screenshots and screenshots of the threads with more detail would have been better. But I've been through these scenarios before on WoW and other games, calling for a GM and getting no attention to the problem even after talking through it. Admittedly with them there would be no controversy over whether it's "Wa-wa, a scam to make another 14$ by the end of the month!" There will be skeptics abound now, as I've proven myself to be (and I do sincerely apologize).
In a half-logical way I still kinda side with Paragus, though. Maybe not for it as a profit way, but that the GMs in-game still leave something to be desired. Who was that guy in a big guild who lost everything on a keep that didn't go up?

. Like I said I'm not implying Paragus was lying , in fact quite the contrary . His proof was definitely enough to warrant an investigation of the matter . Whether that took place we'll probably never know . It's also not out of the ballpark to think they may be desperate enough for subs, to let these things slide.
It's just other evidence shows they are ban happy , Which makes this a complicated issue to judge.

I suppose that's true. I for one in my short trials of the game hadn't any real problems or dealings with bugs so I suppose I was overtly lucky. Then again I only played sparsely compared to my friend who was more active with it. And I also suppose we picked a mild server - can't remember the name now - as I never saw anything I could call a bot or an exploit.
Like that glitch he had in Old Tarantia where he could walk through the buildings - no collision mapping. It's a more humorous thing after a while, because he was outside the city while still in the city's instance.
I see what you mean about that. I haven't heard many stories of people being banned, but then again a bot can't complain on the forums.
