So after leaving EQ back when EQ2 launched I have been traveling from game to game looking for the depth and fun that was my EQ life.

I have played EQ2, WoW, DAOC, CoH/CoV, Vanguard, AOC, EvE and a few others that I didnt play very long.  To no avail did my adventures lead me to find the perfect fit for me. So, I downloaded old EQ and logged in 5 days ago.

OMG! I truelly forgot how unforgiving this game is. We are so spoiled by mini maps, quest icons, and being led around by the hand. I was totally lost and frustrated the first couple of days.

I have to say that after a week of play I am back in the groove of things. The graphics dont seem to bother me one bit. I find myself losing track of time and logging hours of play. The fear of exp loss and pvp that has a consequense.

Im glad I tried it again. EQ truelly still reigns supreme in quality and depth.

I wonder if its at all possible for SOE to put EQ on a different engine to boost graphics? All this game lacks is better graphics.

Hi and well met.

If SOE puts EverQuest on a better Graphics Engine it will be something on the level of EverQuest II or Vanguard and that will likely destroy the game because one of the strongest points of it at this point in time is that, like WoW, it can be run on such a variety of hardware that it actually has high adoption potential.

If SOE does put it on another graphics engine they should not go above DirectX 9.0 Engine and it should be something that can run on hardware that is at least a couple of years old.

Forcing hardware upgrades by replacing the graphics engine in a game that has been running on the same hardware for some users for years will definitely not go over well with the community.

I do agree that the gameplay, spell system, classes, world design, etc. in EverQuest is very good - but bad decisions IRT graphics engine changes can effectively kick out a large number of their subscribers.

I am sitting here looking at whole new computer systems because the computer that runs EQ/WoW/Lineage 2 flawlessly chokes in EQ2 and can't run Vanguard at > 1 Frame-Per-Second.

Maybe they can use the UT2003 Engine to give it a boost in graphics without making it choke on some of the hardware that current players are running it on (especially the 2/multi-boxers).
