I don't plan to join Warhammer until at least a month after launch anyway.  AoC just kicked me in the balls as far as launch expectations go.

win. Although I wont be waiting until a month after (I dont like stating out behind hehe), I can totally agree with this. Conan really did a number on my psyche as far as future releases go. I mean lets be honest, the launch is everthing. Love it or hate it, all signs point to vanguard being a very well run, complete game... NOW.. but at release.. u get the point. Even so, I sit here staring at my Vanguard box... itching to reinstall for a month just for something to do, and yet I wont. Something stops me. Im guessing its my disappointment from the first time it filled up m hard drive. I will never look at MMO's the same after these 2 launches. But to answer the question as to things I will be looking for...

    1. Deliver your core goals and elements. I dont care that osme things were remove, none of it was gamebreaking for me. What I do care about, however, and to some extent expect even more out of now, if what they are leaving IN. You gotta take certain things out in order to focus on other things? fine. But prove to me that it was to my benefit.

    2. Active Mythic community. In wow and other such games, getting a question or problem resolved is usually a click away. I expect to get that same experience if I have problems here.

    3. Be prepared, and show me that you have learned SOMETHING from all these horrible releases. They say release was pushed back a million times de to wanting to be prepared. Prove it. Dont make the same stupid mistakes at launch that all of us know can be prevented. Dont make me suffer through the exact same things all over again. Cars have 4 wheels, mirrors, and headlights. dont try to make them fly too. Do what you do, and do it well, while learning from others mistakes along the way.

    4. Dont try to become something you arent. After launch I will be looking for this. do they stay true to the game, or do they do what everyone wants just to get more subs? This is the one thing I hate about WoW.. as far as Im concerned arenas damn near killed the game.

I digress.. but thats what I'm looking for.

I am going to stop by Best Buy or Game Stop tomorrow and pick up a pre order box for 10 bucks. I doubt if I play past the "open beta" since I am determine to finish leveling one of alts in LoTRO  before Morial releases but WTF I want to see the game for myself. And then again I might not even bother wit WAR at all, not even open beta ~shrug~

Anyway my friends in closed have had nothing but praise for the game and I am familiar with Mythic from  2 and a half years with DAoC and they are pretty good with their customer service so I think that the game  will hammer <groan> the final nail in AoC's coffin.

    I miss DAoC

The war release will prove this point once again.

lol you couldn't be farther from the truth if you tried .

the AOC fanboi's wont even be able to come up with troll posts once the OB starts and the NDA is dropped. i hate to break it to you dude , WAR is a good game .

Isn't this why so many people are pissed off at AOC fanboi's from beta? Telling everyone it's a good game is a bad idea .

Will people run out of quests ? Will people hit end-game real fast ? Is the PVP endgame good enough to warrant leaving your current game for it? Is there something to do at engame if you don't enjoy PVP ?

All of these questions and more should be asked then answered ,before telling anyone it is a good game.

I'm not saying War is good or bad I have no clue I haven't played it . But before I buy it I'm going to be damned sure to know what to expect.

Will people run out of quests ?  nope

Will people hit end-game real fast ? uh huh , but that's what Mythic want's and the game is designed for .

Is the PVP endgame good enough to warrant leaving your current game for it? i would say it is but this is just my opinion . what i find fun others may not .

Is there something to do at engame if you don't enjoy PVP ? yes sir .

well i answered your questions as best i could with out breaking NDA . im not going to try and convince you WAR is good , that's not my job . im just giving an opinion and if you want to believe me fine , if not that's cool to !

I am in the beta so what I'll really be watching for is stability. Can they get the game stable enough with full servers to support 100 on 100 sieges.  A live environment is very different than a beta one and all kinds of extra problems can crop up.

I already know the game has enough content and is fun so I'm not sweating those things.  When the NDA is lifted I'll go into things more but the way they ran beta was the best I've seen in any game I've beta tested.  This is how a company should make a product.

This post has made me very happy. If my opinion is the same when I get to play it, I'll be overjoyed. I can take rough starts, some bugs and so on, but it sounds like Mythic is doing right by the players so far!..?

If it doesn't break any NDA issues, how has the CS and in game GMs been so far?

EDIT: Nevermind, it's always fantastic during beta at least.

NDA says you are allowed to tell others that you are in the beta.

And got confirmed some hours ago that I will receive a Collector's Edition!

I will tell my view on WAR when the NDA is lifted.

RIP Blackguard. May a resurrection come.

I dont have high expectations, if War doesnt crash every hour it will already have won my money.

What if the game is amazing but does crash every hour?  Just curious because I know I like the game but there is no way to know how stable it is once they get 500,000+ players on the network.

I agree with you, But the fact is AOC is unplayable for me and I  have a good gaming rig. So if War is playable and it doesnt crash all the time like AOC does then its won my monthly subcription.

AoC was amazing in the beginning, but with every patch brought new bugs, crashes until it was completely unplayable.

The key things I'd hope for is:

    - The most important thing I hope for in Warhammer is the core to be well build. Since I have not played the beta, I can not know for sure. What I mean by the core, is more or less the game engine. It need to be build in a way that makes Developers able to tweak, patch, and expand the game effectively at a fast pace. The game engine must be less static, and more dynamic. A small example of dynamic in game result, would be that the animations and movements would feel fluid and not hard/sticky. (thats one simple result of a more dynamic game engine)

    - Having an emotionally charged Atmosphere that pleases players.

    - Mythic being honest and working with players to make the game good. They need to have a good way to filter spam/crap, from people who try from bottom of their heart extent and knows how to help improve the game. Yes, please let us wise men with tons of MMO experience be heard for once!

    - The game being stable and have the content it says it will have. Being honest will always keep your company respected by player base. Be honest when you say something. If your looking for a way to make up a story, then learn to shut your mouth.

    - Make teaming/grouping easy and flexible, so that you can get groups going in less than a minute. I see so many games fail at this point. Make it easy, make it intuitive, so that people will use the system!

All these points will ensure that the game will offer a genuine long-term "home" for MMO players. The game will grow, if the core is done right.

WAR seems like a horrid game. I wont even be trying it. Too bad AOC sucked hardcore, now I think I will wait for mortal online or maybe darkfall. Aion seems okay.

  • DouhkDouhk Member Posts: 1,019

I'm slowly becoming attracted to this game... at first it looked really horrible, but, like many have said, it would shape up and it did. The animations and character models went from being the worst I've seen to being fantastic. Although I'm starting to like it, I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst (even though the MMO business is in serious need of some new successful games as of now).

However, the company is one I can trust, unlike FC. With that, WAR is already miles ahead of AoC. If it can actually keep me entertained and can prove itself to be better then WoW in every way (because, let's face it, I don't see any differences at all between this game and WoW other then the focus being on PvP rather then PvE) then I will be quite pleased. Chances are, I'm gonna buy this game shortly after release just because I currently don't have any MMOs to play (other then WoW).

For me it's mainly the PvP class balance.

I know it's a group game and we shouldn't really gripe about 1v1 encounters but that doesn't help when I'm levelling in a quiet spot and the oppostion show up and hand me my ass. So overall and class balance will be on my radar. Although I will cut them some slack as I think it will take some time post-launch for the game to find it's stride.

The other things I'm concerned over wont really crop up for a while like making sure top-end items and content are accessible to all rather than just elite raiding guilds. I'm hoping to join a guild that's small enough so we all know each other and get a along well but big enough to make a mark in PvP. and typicaly these guilds aren't populated by the hardocre acheiver type players.

Secondly I'll be looking at balance issues.  AoC had and still has MASSIVE character balance issues.  With WAR being all about the pvp then balance is a HUGE issue.  I'll be looking at the balance not only between destruction and order but also between ranged and melee.
I am looking for a game where my wife and I can enjoy playing it together.  If WAR doesn't offer a good environment for GROUP play then it will be thrown out just like AoC was.  It's called an MMO for a reason.
AoC was stupid.  They punished you for grouping.  Dumbest damned game design I've seen in years.  Those guys are idiots.  If you take a pile of crap and decorate it to make it pretty, you wind up with a pretty pile of crap.
I'm hoping WAR will be a vast improvement over what I've seen so far.  My Beta experience has left me with high hopes.

Whilst I agree on the class balancing and specifically the ranged / melee balance I wont make any decisions until I get to a decent level. Looking at the Gamepsy WAR Journal they did last week one of them said the Maurader had issues very early on but as they levelled they started to get skills to counter it. So on the whole I'm hopeful they haven't neglected melee.

I'm watching out for how many people stay after the 30 day trial.  That alone will speak volumes on the success of this game vs AOC.

Ill be looking for something to do in the game other than fight, maybe lore, exploration...just something to be able to do in the game to make it feel more like an rpg than a game of snakes and ladders.
