It's a whole new starting experience.
It's going to be released as an independent download of under 3 GB, and will be a free trial up to level 10.

So not only will you get to try the game for free, but you'll see new stuff that shows off the direction they're taking Vanguard.
They've said that it'll also be possible to stream downloading of the rest of the game client in the background while the trial is running.  So while you're playing the game to level 10, you can also be streaming the rest and jump right into the rest of the content should you choose to subscribe.
I saw footage of some of the Isle of Dawn yesterday.  It really looks like the dev team has pulled out all the stops for it!  Something else that was funny was that Sony had a big presentation yesterday where SoE's big cheese spoke.  They opened with a montage showing footage from all the different SoE games.  When you compare Vanguard to all the rest in that way, Vanguard's world completely blew the visual appearance of all the rest (including EQ2) right out of the water.  :)

I would also like a Guest pass , if it is possible. The game looks cool and it would be wonderful if someoan share it with me .

Just wanna say a few things in response to some criticizms posted earlier. Since vanguard has a small population of course they are not gonna pour resources into it.  Trial Island is a chance for the game to increase its pop/income to bring players in and of course with a higher pop/ revenue base the game will get more $ spent on it to make it better and better. I have played many of the popular mmorpgs out there- WoW, EvE, LotRO, AoC, AO, EQ2 and I truely believe that this game is as good or better then any of those.  Vanguard has a couple good things going for it.  First (and most important for the player) is that its a great product.  Second and of equal importance is that sony is putting money into marketing it with its free trial which has the possibility of keeping it a viable product.  Without both of these factors ie marketing and quality, any product is doomed to fail.  Up until now sony was ironing out its quality and imho since achieving a standard worthy of marketing (fast forward a year and a half since release) that phase of their business plan is progressing.

Again as I touched upon earlier in this thread - if you have a computer that can run AoC well and you decide to play Vanguard, prepare to enter one of the if not the most immersible worlds you have every seen.  I know I have never seen anything even close to it!

I don't mean to hijack the debate portion of this thread, but I would really like to get a buddy key to check out this game. If you have one, please send it to me at hcmarcus@gmail.com

    I appreciate it! Thanks!

    Trolling?

The lack of development is a pertinent issue to discuss, the fact Vanguard doesnt have artists and animators now are real issues, no expansion is a real issue.

Some people doesnt care about these details, some others like me see these as some of the reasons why pay for a MMO.

My reasons are my own, but you should realize now that I care about Vanguard and how it is lacking now, this is not a troll attitude.

Also doesnt all sony games offer a 14 day trial?

if anyone does have a trial key feel free to e-mail it to me at eqq22182@yahoo.com it would be much appreciated..

I cant stand these f2p games anymore, i really need a p2p home.

Everyone can't play Vanguard, so yes, some people do prefer a playable game instead of pretty eye-candy.

I understand there are people out there that can afford to upgrade their computers for every game they wish to play, or even spend the cash for a new system.

From the research that I've done, almost every consumer PC comes with a PSU that is not underrated for any card that can play this game.

Furthermore, many affordable consumer PCs are so small that you can hardly fit a high-end graphics card in them. I cannot fit a good graphics card in my AGP slot because there is largish capacitor on the MB that sits next to the slot. The heatsink on the cars are big and sit on top of the capacitor, making it impossible to insert the cards in and "snap" them in place. The PSU doesn't have a PCI-E power connector and most of those AGP cards are PCI-E cards with a bridge chip on them to make them work with the AGP systems.

I have been looking around for a new computer for weeks now and I have gone as far as making the people in the computer stores allow me to look inside the computers to examing the Slots/MB/PSU and almost all of thsoe computer PCs are utter crap. The best way to get a system to play these games at acceptable settings is either to buy a very expensive consumer PC (1k-1.5k) or customize the system from a company that sells gaming machines online (they allow you to customize in very deep detail, down to PSU ratings, etc.).

I have 3 HP Pavilions here and after realizing the PSU issue I looked in my computers and realized that all of the PSUs were 50-100 Watts below the "Required/Recommended" rating of the Dedicated Graphics Cards that I customized in them ON HP's Website. Systems that I ordered with ATI/GeForce Cards that require 350/400 Watt PSUs came with 250/300 Watt PSUs. I was always wondering why my computers were so friggin loud while playing games... The temperature inside those computers when playing games can rise to dangerous levels, and there is little room to add extra fans in them.

Buying a system from a PC Manufacturer like Dell/HP/Acer/Gateway is out of the question for anyone who seriously games for a large portion of the time that they are using their PC, because it will simply break sooner or later (I had to send a Graphics Card Back because of that, and my Sony Vaio Laptop's inverter blew and had to be replaced because I used it to play EverQuest alot due). The systems get hot and consumer PC cases are not designed for this type of use.

They are designed for the type of people who use a computer for a couple of hours and turn it off during the night. They are not for serious users who play video games with dedicated/high-power graphics cards and leave the system running for many hours-days-weeks at a time.

I am tired wasting money on such machines, only to end up in the same state of "Oops, can't really upgrade this PoS... Without paying 3x the Price to HP/Sony/whoever..." over and over again. To be able to play these unnecessarily graphically complex MMOs I'd have to buy another computer and having to pay 1.5k for a new machine is out of the question. That is my vacation I'm planning next month, and then some.

Luckily, other companies (Mythic, Blizzard) have a clue on developing games that look somewhat pretty without locking out such a large portion of potential player base with system requirements (which the Vanguard developers need to reconsider, cause they are listed too low on the box ATM - WTB a MainFrame to play VG...).

You can put together a computer that will play VG quite well for less then $750.  I did one about 2-3 months ago that my daughter plays on.  If you need help PM me and I can give you some tips or send you a config.

No need. Not when I can play other games coming out this year with my current system no problem.

$750 to play a game when you current system is at the level of the Recommended Requirements is not acceptable.

Also, it's nice to hear that they are coming out with a new starter city, but what about more end game content, etc.?

The game has been out for quite a while and they don't seem to have added all that much to keep hardcore players busy. I am fairly hardcore and I can't see myself sitting at end-game level for such a long time farming the same content and encounters over and over again for no other reason than to regear the new members that replaced others who got burnt out and quit the game as a result of that.

I don't think a really hard core player would be kept going long enough till they run out of content... But thats kinda the case in almost all games.

There are on the other hand several dungeons and several long faction quest like things to do around 50 that will keep you busy for awhile.  There is one Raid dungeon in the game but that is almost a misnommer as I think the raid dungeon is bigger then anything in any other game.  It is large enough it actually has internal teleporters.  So that can probably also keep you busy for quite awhile...

There are some overland raids, various rather long quests for flying mounts, and there is a new high lvl dungeon/raid that is being added in the next few months.  Hard to say how large it will be or how soon it will be out.  I'd guess not till after october.  It does seem like it could be pretty large.  It has something to do with the gods and there are a huge number of gods in telon.  Something over 20 I believe.  so if there is some quest/raid content for each good that will be a very large addition.

But none of this matters if you computer is too old to play the game.  I was only suggesting that it isn't that expensive now days to buy a game that wll run VG well.  But I don't see VG game requirements being any higher then most current games, eq2, AoC, or Warhammer.  So honestly if you can't play VG you are probably due to start thinking about an upgrade.  course this is VG today if you are thinking about VG performance when the game was released then you might want to try the Island of Dawn when it is released and see how that plays on your computer.

Might want to get back on that in 3 weeks.

According to posts at warhammeralliance this seems to be the budgetalternative to run WAR.

    The Low Budget build

    CPU: Intel E2220

GPU: Nvidia 9600GT or ATI 3870

    RAM: 2GB DDR2 800 (upgrade to 4GB if using Vista 64)

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L

PSU: [Antec Earthwatts 430W comes with the case]

HD: 250-320 GB Sata II, 7200 RPM, from Samsung, Western Digital or Seagate.

    DVD: Samsung S203N

Case: Antec NSK6580 (bundled with PSU)"

And you was saying that you ran VG at 1-10fps. I run VG at 10-15 FPS on a 6150LE, an integrated graphic card. I would then run WAR descent, even better then you, on that machine?

And if you got to it and bougth the new system you talked about earlier, which was in some places equal to the above one or in some case even better. You wouldn't run VG in 1-10fps.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

My point is that no video game is worth $750, so none of that matters to me.

Yes, I was looking at systems quite a bit a lil over a week ago, and spent a considerable amount of time customizing and pricing them online as well as in stores. But in the end, I had just came to the realization that it is not worth it to spend so much cash to play a video game, a single video game, when there are others that will run on my machine.

WAR will run on my machine, trust me, I know it will :)

Best is a matter of opinion.

IMO its the best, somewhere between EQ1 and WoW it style. I haven't been this addicted to a MMORPG since EQ1.

The Trial island is weeks away, maybe sooner.

I hope so. I'm bored to tears with everything else and really want to try this out.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

To agree to that point, no it's not worth it.

One can play the game when one have upgraded, sounds like circular argument, but.

Ok, can't check it, so have to trust you on that one.
