As the release of Warhammer looms on the very near horizon, I hope the community here and there show restraint and give the game and community a chance to grow together.
I was not going to buy Age of Conan, but I did at a friends beckoning and now paid for a 6 month sub. I was not going to play Warhammer until I got into closed beta and now I plan on keeping the Collector's Edition rather than sell it on Ebay for a profit.
To be honest I never meant to ever pay to play a video game, until I got into Warcraft beta in Sept of 04 and ended up playing until April of this year. The only game I planned on actually getting into was Lord of the Rings online, but I didn't like it and just moved on. I tried Tabula Rasa and just couldn't get into it.
This website is great. The opportunities presented to us gamers to voice our opinion is a privelege some others don't have. It does not mean we should abuse this gift. Think about it, there are countries where people are required to play a game for 12 hours (the farmers; think about it). It is a bit extreme in thought, I know, but it is a reality. They don't have a choice to pick which game they are going to play, in fact they probably can't afford a computer. They probably get paid $1 a week so they can buy rice for their family.
Yet here we are, a gaming community brought together with the freedom to play any of the games listed to the left. We are fortunate to be able to buy a computer and have time to play these games. Yet some abuse their voice. Some don't know restraint. Some feel it is their duty to not have anyone have a view other than theirs. If you like a game you are immediately called a 'fanboi' and flamed for liking that game and posting something postive. Spelling? OMG!! It is a crime to spell something wrong. Yes it is ok to be a critic, but would you be screaming up and down on the sidewalks of your town at people when you disagree with them?
Do you voice your opinion in politics, religion/atheism, school, work as strongly as you do here? Yes the internet allows you to say something safely without any repudiation directly. But there should be some restraint in how you conduct your self here as well.

Of course not, most of the folks on the forums are folks without a job or at home with kids (which is a job though). The loud always scream louder then mass. Even if you had 100 happy voice, it would only take 5 of them to give the impression that no one is happy.
In university, you're judged by your research and your documentation. Now, that's academics and if you attempt to scream out loud without any motive or at least a reference, you'll be pointed out the door pretty quick.
On a forum, not everyone went through university or learned how to properly formulate their opinion. So they just write and write... never looking back at their own words. It's sad but what can be done? Not sure we can do that much.
People believe that because they pay, they have the rigth to say anything they want.
In the end, be happy that you're one of the more educated, cultured, mannered person between a community that barely scratch the 80 IQ. That's a fact, not an opinion... the bigger the mass, the lower the default IQ.
As for me, well I try to behave like a proper person a forum.
(My point here, is not to call everyone stupid)
Wow, talk about stereo typing. I wrote some sharp reply here, but after I proof-read it I realized I would probably be banned if it ever got reported. Point is, don't throw rocks in a glass house and don't post idiotic reply's insulting most the people on a forum as you only stand out as an idiot yourself.
(That was to Ponico btw.)

Grammar nazi's. This one is for you.
So what exactly is the deal now? Is it the "cool thing" suddenly to whine about the forum being "uncivilized"? I see 10 threads a day now for people to complain about people complaining. If somebody is being "uncivilized" then report them and move on. There's no need to post a lecture to the community.
If something the gaming community would probably be know mostly for just that - constantly whining about every aspect of games. Since there are coming out sandbox games, PvP focused games and everything else we (the gaming community) have been whining about before we (the gaming community) have now proceeded to next "subject" that needs to be fixed - the community. If the "problem" with the community being bad should in some way be "fixed" I suppose we (the gaming community) would proceed to start whining about something else, whatever that would be I don't know.

Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.
While I'll admit my grammar was pretty awfull in my last post, you might want to take a minute and read through the lines here mate. If you feel insulted by my post then you need to ask yourself a question:
Why do you feel targeted by that post? You obviously do not fall into such insults.
We're at a point that being soft is just not gona make any impact. If my post does affect you then that's really great. This means you don't want to be an ass like me and this means you will be carefull in the future.
Yeah... I know.. it's a bad attempt at reverse psychologie.
It's nice to know that someone else understands the problem: Human Nature will dictate that there will be more negativity than positive postings on an internet forum. Game can be GREAT or it can SUCK and the rule still applies.
Google the "internet F***wad theory" (you know what it's supposed to say) to get the best idea of why perfectly intelligent people act like such idiots on forums too. Most people are actually smart, but on the internet they act very... I don't know, retarded. They make themselves LOOK like they have an 80 IQ, so they effectively do.
It's the anonymity, having too much time to formulate an "argument" online, and a mistaken belief that their opinions matter to a crowd. The latter is why so many people create threads on the same subject endlessly.
Unfortunately this isn't likely to change, because the biggest offenders don't realize who they are.
I would say what I think at work but they give me a big fat Diversity packet at work where they show me that every person and every culture and every religion and every idea is equal and has merit. Then they make me sign that I read and agree with it. If I don't sign it I will get fired. I live in the United States of America.
I would say what I think to the gang bangers on my street, or the ones that graffiti up my neighborhood, but they shoot and stab people that disagree with them and I have an aversion for pain.
When I was in college, my professor shouted that my generation was worthless and we all needed to join the military to grow a spine. He ordered us to physically nod our heads in agreement. Everyone in the entire class nodded except me. He walked over to me and shouted for me to nod my head but I refused. He kicked me out of class. I complained and he was reprimanded, but I dropped the class because afterward I did not think he had the ethical or moral foundation to assess my work fairly.
The world I live in is not as free as yours OP. So if I come here to talk about video games, I will do so in my own way. Sometimes I get banned. But where else can I speak honestly.
It is great that everyone on these boards are free to post what they want. A lot of people come to these boards for info on a game before they purchase the game and subscribe. I for one have used these boards a few times before I figured out which game I will try next. I am also sure that developers use these boards as a means to find out what the gaming community wants for their next upcoming MMO.
There just seems to be so much hate generated lately on these boards. I don't remember the community here being so negative up till just recently. It is so hard to be able to read some of the posts lately as I find that there is so much flaming and bashing going on that the point of the topic goes missed. It is a shame, because sometimes people do have some good suggestions or reasons why they didn't like the last MMO they played.
If someone asked me why I didn't get into D&Do, I would be able to list a few reasons. Not everyone would see what I saw and will disagree with me, but that is fine, I won't go calling them a 'fanboi' and flame them cause they disagreed. There is a thing called respect and tact that should be maintained even during disagreements. Speak honestly, speak freely, just maintain a level of restraint so as to allow others to contribute to the boards.
I dont always see criticism as complaining.......If someone doesn't like AoC then they have the right to say why.......Then it is up to others to decide fi they agree or disagree with each of the points being made...... When I hear a review of a game I want to hear the good and the bad and then make up my own mind......I dont want to hear the good only then find out there is alot of bad that no one ever mentioned...... Alot of people here spend alot of money on their games, PCs, etc......They have a right to speak their mind and if they feel they need to warn others not to waste their money then that is OK too.....Id rather have a realistic review of a game than everything is roses and find out the game stinks.
Wth every shitty MMO release the community gets angrier and angrier, and their thoughts become darker and more negative.
Asking them to keep the bad to themselves and share the good is what politicians do, you want the gaming community to be positive then the devolopers need to give them a reason to do so. You plead for people to give warhammer a chance before bashing it, but warhammer has already fumbled at the gate with its announcement of huge content cuts last month.
The way WAR is recieved will be its own fault come launch, if players like it or hate it will be based on the finished product as all games are, the ONLY difference here is, people dont need months to eat shit before they realize they dont like the taste, thanks to vanguard, hellgate, age of conan, peoeple can just get a whif and decide that is more then enough too go on.

Please point out to me in my posts where I asked people to not post the bad.

Same goes for the rockers who promote drug use and the most popular tv/movie stars dressing like 12 yr old girls. From the tone of your post, I assume what you would have to say would be something of ignorance. Most people wouldn't be so disrespectful if the outcome was a beatdown.
I agree OP. I remember a time when if a person acted immoral or disrespectful ingame or in forums, the favor was returned by the MANY. It was known, that type of behavior would not be tolerated whether you live in a free society or not. And I loved that.
These days bad behavior goes uncontested. If you don't have "tough skin", then you don't belong. I see that attitude alot in games and to me is part of the reason why only the bigmouths are the ones being heard most times. Those same big mouths in reality, don't have the tough skin they led others to believe. Especially when 20 or 30 posters are constantly keeping them in check. Those days are long gone.
People should be free to say or feel what they want in a tasteful manner.
WAR isnt going to have a perfect release like everyone wants, and all the WAR fans will turn into bloodthirsty trolls with "Failmythic" avatars, bashing the game in every forum. Bookmark this post and you can look back at this when it happens.
