Theres no cool little tricks to do, or "OMG" moments like in other games. The Game world in my opinion looks wonderful the art is alot better than WoW and LOTRO, but to me the combat is what takes away all the fun.

Sorry im just being honest, I think the game is alright but Its no different than AOC was to me. Only good thing is I got to actually play WAR before buying it. I respect Mythic for their practices.

Finally! I can speak! This guy is spot on, the game is just boring as hell.

The animations look terrible, the entire game just feels soooo slow (especially combat and the damn global cooldown)

The missions aren't anything new (go kill 10 fairies)

The scenarios are essentially battlegrounds (sorry guys...they are boring too......here are 2 points, get control of both of them for a few seconds and you get points, get enough points and you win)

I do like the public quest system

The buildings all look exactly the same even across factions. Same floor layout, same quest essentially different objects to get.

At level 20, I was killing an even level mob and I swear I had 2 full spell bars of spells and I felt as though I needed to use each spell twice to actually kill something. (This was with a mage no less!)

Did I mention the animations are terrible?

I could go on for hours but I just couldn't get into this game in the slightest.

Yea, I did like the public quest sytem as well, I wish they had something like that in WoW.

Speaking of which right after I played WaR for a good Month  went back to Wow.

I realized why the game is so popular finally. Its a real living world. From the start of the game you see a cutscene that shows in game players fighting, and the area YOU are going to explore.

When I get on  griffon I pass over the land I just walked on, seeing people fighting the sam things I just fought.

When I go to the tavern I see the same people I say yesterday. It truely is a "World" of War.

    War is just that....War.

And for people who want War thats fine, but some of us want more. BTW Alundre you still play?

That is only for one particular server and type of tester. We are allowed to talk about the game, post screenshots, and videos just not from that one server.

You are incorrect. I played to about lvl 25ish. Maybe the game just isn't for me but there was nothing in the entire game that actually grabbed my attention. I just used the fairy example because that was the first one I thought of. I could have used the mission to infiltrate whatever camp that was (I forget exactly) and collect or destroy the 5 barrels or whatever it was.

If you like the game, go right ahead and play it but people want opinions and I gave mine. Trust me though, I definitily played past level 3.

I've been in beta for over a year now, it has changed by leaps and bounds. The mere fact that the developers are listening to the players make it much different than any mmo (some debates even happen )

One thing I have definitely found for this game, which makes it different from a lot of mmo's is the fact that it is more about team accomplishment than individual accomplishment.

When I was alone testing it I found it entertaining at times, but really can't say I did as much testing as I could. Was it boring? Not really boring, however a lot of things in the game are better with coordinated groups.

When some of my friends/guildmates got in, I really saw the difference. Whether it was doing PQ's or Scenarios or Keep Sieges, they were all much better just knowing that i had people with me to support me.

Unlike WoW (I know I shouldn't compare it) with it's arena and pvp system which is more about the individual accomplishment by the end of the day, WAR is all about the team accomplishment. The battles are much bigger in this game, and much more intense.

I can't really describe the feeling I got in RvR, as I didn't play DAOC, but it is definitely a something much deeper and satisfying than any pvp system out there.

Bottom line, if you like PvP (RvR) and don't plan on just playing alone the entire game, this game should appeal to you.

Untill tomorrow im playing on a 7200GS and the animantions are just amazing. Bright wizard stuff just kicks ass. As soon as I get my new card it will be 10x times better.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

This is the one thing I happen to know about. Character animations are the biggest letdown in the game. A lot of others things meet or exceed my expectations (PQs and Tome of Knowledge are amazing). Character animations are just horrendous and need some major rework...

The zones are pretty large but I would say they are fairly equal to or slightly smaller than WoW zones.

Combat is just like wow except 10 times slower. While that will probably be nice for RvR (people won't be getting 2 shotted like in wow), it also seems to make the experience feel very slow and gets downright boring in PVE.

While you're on the topic of healers, maybe touch on Zealot and Rune Priest too. :)

OK, I have played all destro healers, no rune priest, but I have killed plenty of rune priests.

Zealots and Rune Priests are your heal bot healers.  I think RPs have better team buffs, not sure.

Shamans are fun, they do ok damage, but not the best, but they heal very well.  You could spec for damage which I didn't do.

DoK are good but hard to play.

In order of most healing to most damage it goes

    Zealot

    Shaman

    DoK (melee)

Each one has different  team buffs, so one of each would be good.  DoK has a team armor buff, shaman elemental (good for the bright wizard damage), and zealot has a few,  One is int and strength, one is  wisdom (for healers) and I'm forgetting the other one.

I don't know about 10 times slower, last time I played WoW combat wasn't very quick. I'd say combat speed depends on the class, MDPS can 3-5 shot equal level mobs.

  • ObiyerObiyer Member UncommonPosts: 511

I've been playing in the WAR CB for a week or two now.

The Good: Unique zones, and the RVR. Some classes are fun.

The Bad: Character Animations, and boring classes. PvE seems a bit weak also. The crafting system was also not present in the phase I played.

When I say animations, I mean that sometimes animations won't finish or start at all. This includes channelling bars won't pop up and you don't know what the heck you're doing unless you concentrate on the combat log. When you get stunned you don't know you're stunned or disabled. You simply stand there and can't attack.

Just last night we were taking an enemy keep and the guards spawned in a way that made them untargetable. RvR looks to be a blast though, we setup a catapult and spent 20 min destroying an unguarded door. Lol, it's one of those things that more fun with more people participating.

I fogot to add my very least favorite thing about War......

That stupid text box when you die that says something "don't worry, everything will be ok, it is just a part of playing the game"

That damn thing just drove me nuts. I thought I was playing War....not some bunny-loving-hippie-funtime-game

I've been playing the closed beta for awhile, and I was expecting a WoW clone at best.  Now, I'm a fan of the tabletop game, and after hearing EA Mythic was taking charge of the whole thing, I was a bit weary.  Would they make my favorite unit a class in the game?  Will they do it right?  Most of all, will it be fun?

Alot of my favorite units did make it into the game.  Marauder, Witch Hunter, Chosen and a slew of others.  I was sad to hear the Choppa was cut out, as I had my heart set on playing a Choppa at launch.  Still, no big worries, it's an MMO.  If they make it in later, I'll be re-rolling, if not, well I have others to choose from.  I think they got the atmosphere of the game down pat.  The starting area for the Orks in particular.  You start out in castle seige on a dwarven castle.  How cool is that?  I've had alot of fun with the game so far, and it's in beta.  I've had fun with all the classes in the game so far, and that's a rarity.  There are still classes in WoW I can't stand playing and don't understand how people play them.

There is quite a bit of stuff to do in game.  I found myself wandering around doing quests while I waited for a PvP scenario only to stumble upon a public quest where I could earn points to get free gear.  That, and there is the random roll for bags of loot that sometimes have epics in them.  So while I'm waiting to do some PvP, I score an epic axe for my ork and then go PvPing for a bit only to come back to the PQ I was doing earlier to gear up again.  It was great fun.  Never really a dull moment for me.  I then made a Warrior Priest of Sigmar and that was alot of fun.  I mostly leveled up in RvR with him, so he was decked out in Reknown gear.

As for the animations being bad, I dunno about that.  Then again, I have a monster rig at home so I only suffer from server lag, not graphical lag.  The animations are good.  They are on par with WoW at least.  They aren't crazy fantastical, but I don't need it to be.  I found it to be rather fast paced, considering all that happens in PvP, so people saying it's too slow...well, this isn't a FPS.  You don't just hold a button, spray then pray you hit something.

I dunno, I finally pre-ordered the game.  Is the game amazing?  Beyond my wildest dreams?  No, but I have fun playing it and I think that's all that really matter IMHO.

yeah but just imagine all the people not used to so much PvP. There are a lot of MMO's especially new generation MMO gamers who hate to die and have any sort of penalty what so ever. So they have to reassure them so they don't get all frustrated and quit lol.

I am very excited for this game.. It's an MMO and I understand the style of MMO that it is. It really seems like great fun and very community based warfare.. WoW was a great game, but I think it missed the whole POINT of warcraft.. The original warcraft was a real time strategy game where bases were built, including towers and strongholds and keeps. WoW should have had the option to be sort of like shadowbane. But they went lite on the RvR (orcs vs human) capitol cities are non-capturable, thing and thats where I think WAR shines.

It stays true to the combat theme that warhammer is. Battles , Battles and more Battles..

Now that I am destined to go and switch my Pre-Order to CE, I have one more decision to make.. Which side will I go to WAR for? :-)

    Im seriously in the middle..

There are multiple kinds of instancing.  I would goto warhammerwiki for a full explanation.

But basically the world zones are large and mostly "seamless", probably comparable to WoW.  Then there are instanced things such as dungeons, lairs and scenarios (scenario are just better made WoW battlegrounds).

The dungeons specifically have multiple kinds of instances and one dungeon may have portion with a more narrow instance.

By this I mean that when you enter a dungeon you are always separated by faction but you may have multiple groups in the same dungeon.  When you get near a boss you may go to a new instance where only your group may exist.  There is also an in between type of instance for about 2-4 groups.

So basically they are trying to keep some of the feel of the communal dungeons of EQ1 or EQ2 but not have camping or other population problems.

I have not participated in the beta for this< i just took this from the wiki so a Beta player will need to confirm if this made it into the game as its described.
