WAR is pretty much WoW with different skins and more focus on PVP. if you wish WoW had more focus on PVP ... then WAR is definately for you.
the loot system is pretty much the same (greens, blues and purples)
combat is basically the same as well as the "training" system ... oh but in WoW you go down a spec in warhammer you go up.
graphics arent as cartoony ... though the greenskin/dwarf pairing is close.
UI is basically the same
to the untrained eye (my wife's) it is WoW. I was playing and she walked in and said "when did you start playing WoW".

you give WoW's graphics way to much credit.
I could not disagree with you more. If you like DAOC you'll love WAR.
This game is nothing like WoW.
wows graphics may not be great but they are bearable but wows combat is second to none..i hope war can achieve that fluidity
lol, ok if you say so. I think such games as Guild Wars and Lineage 2 would say differently.

Exactly, as I said in another post, I hate WoW but am greatly enjoying WAR. WoW has a stigma about it, mostly due to its elitist player base that WAR does not have. . .yet.

I am right in a way though, you know what i mean..when you hit the button something happens..yes lineage 2 is responsive but the UI is awful looking.

I fully agree with the OP. The gameplay, questing, UI, combat, even much of the look and feel is almost a straight dupe from WoW. If you like WoW you will like WAR, if you dont like WoW you will hate WAR. Its basically WoW with a few DAoC elements thrown in. (although DAoC still does alot of them better sadly). yes there are a few unique and new things. But for the most part, asside from PQ's they are subtle and barely noticeable. (Ooo! red rings on the map!)
As far as graphics. They tried to split the diference between WoWs colorful cartooniness and AoC and suchs realism. the result is kinda meh. The characters are nicely detailed, but so subtle that it is hard to notice. While at the same time their stances and animations make them seem very lifeless. WoW is cartoony, but somehow they made the characters feel alive. WAR didnt really achieve it. The fact that they seem to be using DAoC poses and animations doesn't really help in this regard. It's easy to see that the DAoC art team did WAR.
Don't get me wrong. WAR is a fun game. It is a well polished game, and it is definately ready for release. Head and shoulders above AoC. if you are not currently playing anything, this is probably the game for you. But it really isn't anything so new or diferent that it is worth switching games for. All you will be getting is more of the same, with a new same old grind.
I could not disagree with you more. If you like DAOC you'll love WAR.
This game is nothing like WoW.
did you actually play the game?!?!
Yep. for 14 months. It's nothing like WoW. it's Daoc2 and that's a great thing.
i dislike wow...enjoying war...so no
While I agree if you like WoW you'll like WAR its not WoW with a new skin and more focus on PvP. It took the good non faction / gear grind things about WoW and made them better, made them more viable and more fun. Other than that the game stands easily out on its own with a bevy of things to keep you busy instead of the home drum follow the same path X Million times BS of WoW.
The loot system is not the same, the color coordination of the items however is standard fair there's really no reason to confuse players and make color identification brown, yellow, and red. How you get the gear is completely different. Instead of grinding for X hours per day you can easily play the game anyway you want and save money to buy gear, get influence gear, or get dropped / quest gear. You can be fully decked out in a full set of greens and a couple of blues by level 10. You can also dye your gear right away if you save enough money while training making you look different then the person next too you.
The Gear system in WoW is flawed its geared heavily towards grinding the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again. I can simply log onto WAR play a scenario and do some pvp and after I gain about 2 to 3 ranks buy a full set of green if I've scavanged and looted enough enemy players. Not to mention the fact enenmies drop greens and blues on occasion as well.
THe UI is not alike at all. What the UI is used for is just like any other game expecting it to be different is completely retarded. The UI is perhaps the most flexible UI I've ever seen. You can move things & size things anyway you want most games rely on third party programs to do that or they dont let you scale them all.
THe graphics are top notch for a stylized exaggerated fantasy style. I've seen it in a varyingset of ways sometimes with the shadow system on sometimes with it off same thing with lighting. When they'r eall on its gorgeous even the armor gives off shadows on the toon! To the eye that only looks for ways to criticize and compare it'll look similiar to WoW. Though last time I looked you couldn't give any WoW characters a face thats all cut up with an eye gouged out.
How anyone can compare their Career, Renown, and tactics system to WoW's tree system is beyond me. The basics are the same at first you train in some skills same way you would WoW & EQ2 and a bevy of other games. By Level 11 you gain a Career point. You can put this point in 1 of 3 trees. Unlike WoW where you put it in a specific skill of a tree you put it in the ENTIRE tree in WAr. That one point covers every skill thats under that tree and as you build up the bar in that tree you gain access to more abilities.
As you gain Renown you gain points there as well. Here is where you increase your stats, buy rvr tactics and more. WoW currently has NOTHING that does this at all your stats are only affected by temporrary potions and gear. Renown training is permant and it gives you tactics that cna increase your Renown XP, gold, loot and more.
The Tactics system is curious indeed. Here you gain all sorts of skill sand modifiers that apply to PvP, PvE, or both. You get three tactics slots and you can create several alternatives so you can quickly swap between the builds you want. You can also gain tactics that are guild specific.
If you like WoW and want something more without faction, raid, and the evil gear dependancy with better and more engaging PvP you'll like WAR.

Bzzt wrong. Been in beta for months, and have hated WoW for sometime now. I love WAR.
Folks, you need to realize that not everyone sees life the same way.
Simplified example: If WoW and WAR were the only two MMORPGs someone has played, they may say that the two are quite similar.
Whereas someone who has played DAoC, WoW and WAR might say that WAR is a lot more like DAoC than WoW.
People draw parallels between aspects of similar things they're familiar with based on their own individual tastes.
I'm just suggesting that there's really no need to say: "No, you're wrong, it's nothing like that." (Unless they're clearly lying/trolling, I suppose.)
Currently Playing: EVE Online

As an elder beta tester, I couldn't disagree with the OP more.
Warhammer = DAoC 2. If you enjoy realm v realm PVP, slower paced PVP, and PVP that has a point (capturing keeps, progressing the war, etc), then you'll enjoy Warhammer.
If you're the type of person that enjoys running PVE raid encounters for hours on end, you'll dislike Warhammer, because there are no PVE raid encounters in this game.
As a side note, it's viable to level 100% through PVP. Every toon that I've rolled in the past few weeks has been leveling doing nothing but PVP.

And overall bitter old man.
I think it woudl be best if WAR wasn't compared with WoW or DAoc but rather as it's own entity. It isn't a WoW 1.5 or DAoC 2. It shares some similarities in certain aspects but all MMO's do. However it has plenty that sets itself apart from the rest, and therefore should be considered to be its own.
I agree I think they have their graphic settings on low
Elder tester as well and this game is not Daoc 2 . This game is Daoc + wow = WAR.
The skirmish areas are much smaller then Daoc pvp and the classes are less deverse.
If you like Wow you will like WAR if you love Daoc you might like WAR.
Yeah WAR is nothing like WoW.
WoW's PvE content was better for me and there was more of it.
WAR's RvR content has really no comparisson other than DAOC.
On a side note, I played DAOC for a small time period and found that it's animation and gameplay was also sort of clunky. The "clunkiness" is also present in WAR, but it's not really a bad thing. The game is polished in one way, presentation and playability, and isn't on another, smoothness of gameplay. I'm sure that if you play it enough you will get accustomed to the "clunkiness" as I'm guessing most DAOC players are. It's more of a developer hallmark more than anything. Sort of how certain people use certain words more than others. The reaction is also the same, some will have no problems adjusting to it, others will and others won't even notice.
You guys will see when you play Open Beta. But don't go into it thinking it will be so much better than WoW. I'll get flak for this but it's not.
For me. with a big background in item grindy games playing WAR had the same feeling of me playing Tabula Rasa. Where the game made me realize how much fun I had in another game. In Tabula Rasa's case it was Planetside, for WAR, it's WoW. But again this is mainly PvE content, as the RvR aspect of WAR is totally unique to it in terms of this comparison.
I agree. I think WoW was a lot of folks first mmo. So their expectations are skewed, they think it's the best game out there, and base all their opinions on that game. I liked WoW, but i LOVED DAOC. it was the fight that always brought me back for more, not the 760th attempt at Rag.
I agree. I think he's implying the RACES are similar and the UI is similar. The actual game is not. To the untrained eye (my girlfriend's) every game looks like the game you played a lot at one time. Therefore (Any 3rd Person game with an interface = WoW).
I think WAR will do well.
hahaha, this made me giggle. yeah, you have a health bar and folks in your party, a chat screen, a paper doll an inventory, and a hotbar..... yeah, that makes it WoW. silly kids.
does war play like wow yes and why well in both you target hit attack then hit buttons for skills
does war look like wow well they got elves orcs human so yeah but the war character modles look like war table top miniatures so if you love painting them you will love to see them run around and bash stuff
wow world vs war world
well wow is run around kill npc to lvl up and pvp to get ranking war is run around kill npc to lvl and pvp to get ranks .. so same game here but war has more pvp added in there open world as wow pvp (not on pvp server, that we all know is all over the world like war has it all over) is more instance base
i played wow soloed a hunter to lvl 60 then quit got sick of trying to grind instances for gear just not my type of game
i beta tested war got a black orc to lvl 20 and had my fun but will not buy or play this again, i am a warhammer fan and warhammer with no gore is just no fun for me
if you like wow combat system, lvl system even like wow on pvp server you will like war
if you are a fan of warhammer table top miniature game and a wow fan you will like war
will war kill wow who cares there both dead to me cause there never going on my hard drive
read before you reply to the actual post.
Major problem is most people can only compare a game to those they have played and have a hard time looking at a new thing and not say, "Oh yeah, that is kinda like such and such in WoW."
However I totally agree with you, there are a bunch of new things in WAR that set it apart, shame a lot of people will just overlook it.
