MMORPG VS. SINGLE PLAYER RPG?

XaldorXaldor Member Posts: 236

Which of these do you get more satisfaction out of?

Don't get me wrong, I love a good session with my MMORPG of the month, BUT I am finding myself being a lot more satisfied after playing a good single player RPG (SPRPG).  I was thinking about this at work today, and I think the reason is because in an SPRPG the whole "story" revolves around you.  You are the hero.  You are the guy that saved the village and married the girl.  In an MMORPG everyone wants to be the hero, and no one EVER will be.  This is what lacks in an MMORPG an individual storyline...This also is why there are so many powergamers out there, because the only real way to become the "hero" is to have the most uber character in the game.  To become the most uber charcater in the game you have to do things like use macros, 8 hour camp sessions, twink low level alts, and dumb shit like that.  Lastly, the single best thing about a SPRPG is that everyone in the game rollplays...lol...you don't walk into the local mage guild and hear a bunch of "mages" talking in n00b...you walk in shoot the shit about what's going on in the town, talk to the pertinent characters, get a quest, and move on....ok one last thing in a SPRPG you pay the man only once...not every single month of playtime...ok that's it any thoughts?

    RPG's.

Got BGII, finished it in 2 weeks. Had to do about everything in it. Storyline was like an intrigueing novel.

When I got KoTOR, I finished it in like 4 days I played it so much.

MMRPG's are good passtimes. To kill the time.

This is the problem with SPRPG's they can be "finished" a lot quicker than MMORPG's....although there are some exceptions...ex. MORROWIND

definetly single player rpgs. If the game is good enough i'll hav enjoyed and much more then any mmorpg. One game i really like (although i think lots of people hated it) is saga frontier (the first one) The second one was alrite...but the first one kicked so much ass.

Chrono cross is also another game that no mmorpg will beat image

Single player. I can just play without worrying about a monthly fee, that's the biggest reason for me.

RPGs, especially the path that mmorpgs are heading down.  At least an RPG has a unique quality, mmorpgs are usually just cookie cutters of the same game.

I've lost interest in both right now. I had great fun with games like "Chrono Cross" and "Zelda" but i now find very few good RPG's. The same goes with MMO's, I can't find any good ones either.

Single Player RPG all the way

I like mmorpgs, but the best mmorpgs on the markets only have half the content than the mediocre single player RPG

I loved NWN, Baulder's Gate, Icewind Dale

    They were very very good

I'd still say a good pen and paper game, or even card games, like Magic, beats either one hands down.

Recently me, and my circle of friends have been playing a game called Pirates of the Spanish Main.

There's something about getting 5 - 10 people together on the living room floor, getting riled up on rum, and playing a game like this. All the backstabbing, and other assorted wackiness can never be captured by an MMO, let alone a single player rpg.

I am going to have to also go with Single Player RPG. While I do love and am obsessed with my beloved Everquest, I enjoy spending quiet hours playing my Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Xenosaga and other games even more.. most of the time. There are no obnoxious, greedy, dramatic, overreacting, whiny, selfish people in a game where you play by yourself and that is something I love.

Plus, I just love them! Especially my Final Fantasies. I love the in depth storylines and I love the.. well, the roleplaying of them. I love learning about a character's storyline and interacting with other characters in the game and actually acting like you are in a fantasy setting and I love the emotions and the feelings they have.. I try it with the online MMORPG's, but then people just think I am insane if I try to roleplay and not discuss things in an out of character fashion.

But I do love both and in my Everquest game, I have created a family for myself where my friends and I do not exactly roleplay, but we speak and act in character a lot of the time, having the same surnames and calling each other "sis" and the like, as well as making up storylines and histories for our families.

Okay, maybe we are insane... but we are evil, so we can do that (dark elves!).image
