SOB SOB SOB SOB SOB SOB SOB <<<<<< Looks like a kid crying but damn I wish I had my accounts still. *cry*

Keith Cross why oh why have you left out one of the fans biggest questions........Do you think there will be a AC3 or has anyone in the current development of AC said anything to this point.  Man I wish you would of asked that even though it was not something that fits the subject 100th update.

To bad that was not asked. Anyway great updates and a free expansion coming for it. I sold my 3 accounts last year and I wish I would of kept them but I needed the money. Got a little over $700 for all 3. That shows you how much value this game still has to die hard fans. I had a few maxed 210 characters. Miss my 2 villas and 1 mansion and old guild. So many memories in this game since 2001 for me.

The amount of loot and armor variations is mind boggling to anyone who has not played this game. Every kill on a monster will randomly drop loot and stats randomly across those loots except for the loot will be only good enough as what they placed in for that particular mob. Quests and named kills gave the best loots.

My fondest memories and best MMO fun comes from this games PVP and PVE play, only second to EQ1.

Wish it wasn't so hard to get back into the game or I would start up again, takes forever to level to 160+ to compete in PVP with good chances. That is normal leveling with no cheating, which I hated cheaters in AC, aka bots. I did all my leveling over the years, was a long and fun trip. The game still had 3000 players on max during the prime hours last year before I quit and sold. Wonder how good it is still going.

The only problem in coming back as a new account is the world is so HUGE which takes more time to travel and progress. Having little time or no patience in doing this is another turn off for me coming back.

This is the only game where I still think about the armors and weapons. RIP AC.

Who let you in the VIP section?

I tried to install the game a few months back on my vista system but kept getting an error when trying to update the game.  I check the offcial board to see if there was a fix only to find out a post made by a dev saying that there was NO plans to fix compatilibty errors with Vista.   WAY TO GO TURBINE !

You can't run anti-virus or firewalls when playing AC. Also you have to forward ports if you use a router.

No Firewall, No router, No Anti-virus, sound like the perfect way to get very nasty things on your computer.  I'll pass i guess, my only hope, maybe one day turbine will upgrade the game so that modern computer can run it without having to expose yourself.

I play AC on Vista fine. My only other guess is you weren't running it as admin.

You can have anti-virus software on your computer and play AC. I have Ad-Aware and Spybot installd. The problem is you cannot use anti-virus software like Norton or Mcafee that is ALWAYS running, it interferes some how.

AC works with Vista. It's Norton, Mcafee, or similar software that causes problems.

Asheron's Call works just fine for me with AVG Anti Virus Free running.  Using Windows XP Pro.

It's actually not Turbine's fault, it's Microsoft's. Here's the kicker, I was in the same boat as you, uninstalling antivirus made the game work, with my router and windows firewall on, contrary to the post below yours. However, here's what really got me, AVG and Avast! both caused errors in Windows with AC, but Microsoft OneCare worked.

I wonder how important it is to MS to fix the bug that makes their AV the only one that works for some scenarios...

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

I blame Turbine for the anti-virus problem. I think it something that should and could be fixed by them. I don't know of any other games that require you to disable anti-virus on Vista, though I'm sure there are some.

It seems Turbine, right now, is more concerned with keeping the existing player base more than attracting new players. Their strategy is very short sighted.

Another example of ACs incompatibility is with Nvidia graphics cards. The sky textures flicker on Nvidia 8000, 9000, and GTX cards. The problems has been around for quite a while now and Turbine seems to be ignoring it. Nvidia is also ignoring it. The players don't know who to blame.

AC does not work at resolutions above 1920x1200. It's not much of a problem at the moment because monitors with resolutions above 1920x1200 are extremely expensive right now. The prices will fall though and in the future the lack of higher resolution support will lose players.

Finally, AC does not work with all routers. People on the official AC board blame the router companies because AC is compliant with all standards. They say it's the router companies that are taking shortcuts with their hardware that cause problems. I don't know the specifics of it all, but I owned a Netgear router that would not work with AC. I ended up getting a new router to get the game to work. Every other game worked fine on the Netgear router.

    Hi all,

Tyres - AC has seen a number of changes over recent years, and levelling is no longer the grind that it used to be at lower levels.  It’s now possible to attain level 100 within 4 days if you know where to hunt, and are prepared to put in the time.

You're correct in stating that Dereth is huge, and this can be daunting to new players, however this instance / zone free environment is one of this things which made Asherons call such an immersive experience for many, and the good news is that there are now a number of improved third party applications which make navigating Dereth a much simpler / quicker proposition!

Of course, having been around for such a long time, there are also numerous on line resources to help you find any elusive portal you might be seeking!

We can only guess what the future might be for AC1, but there is no doubt that for those who are willing to 'overlook' its graphical failings, AC1 does deliver where some of the better looking titles flounder, namely content and game play.  Its why so many people played for so long, why even those that have left hold fond memories, and why some of us remain.

Personally I expected Turbine to switch of AC several years ago; that they haven’t, and that that they continue to expand the platform, makes make think that perhaps they do have plans for development of the franchise (AC3).

Regardless this update sees some very interesting new content which I'll enjoy checking out!
