For those of you that have has a chance to play in Public Quests you will have to admit it is the funniest form of quest you have ever seen in a MMO.
The PQ's are Epic from the start of the game and just keep coming as you move into the world.
The question is..
Do you think that Public Quests will become a new standard in up coming MMORPG's?
Also.. if you could share a Public Quest Experiance with everyone to let them know why they are so awsome!!

Ok....
On this particular day I was using my Disciple of Khaine(AdrienKarr, all my chars names end with "Karr" so look for me if you want to team up or get a beat down) to run through a few missions in the Blighted Isle (lvl 1-5) when I come across a few guards standing around and looking all tough. I decide walk closer because obviously the mission i wanted to complete was somewhere close by, when I got close I saw a timer counting down and immediately i got scared, not knowing what it was I ran away thinking "Wow definitely should keep away from PvP zones till i get used to this game" but suddenly i turn around and a dragon appears, then i'm thinking "Oh **** EVERYBODY RUN!!!". But as soon as i that thought ran through my mind, about five players came down heavy on the dragon.....so i joined in. And seeing as i was a DoK I was able to withstand most of the attacks by the dragon while others kept getting pummeled to their death I kept pummeling to death and at the end I got this flood of yellow and green coloured xp and influence points and money sound pings that filled me with satisfaction. On a normal day you would expect that i wouldnt get any loot because I came late to the party...but I did...maybe i dealt more damage to the big guy than others but who cares? You cant complain when you get sweet loot.
This is not a game.
One of the most inovative things to hit the MMORPG market in years. Yes, im afraid it will be copied...... even by (braces for the flames) WOW <OMG>
Pure genius on Mythics/EA part for this feature.
I really like the PQ's alot. It made me feel like when i fist played EQ and went into the derv and orc camps with full groups. I don't wanna seem like I am comparing but I have always felt that EQ was prolly my all time Fav MMO's and I do miss grouping. Anyway the PQ's are kinda cool.
the game overall has to succeed first before the industry will adopt any of the innovations made by the game...let's see it get though launch+18 (the avarage span of most MMO's that will fail is about 12-18 months unless it really stinks) then I'll agree.
still a little bitter about being signed up for beta/newsletters since day 1 and never getting picked even tho I met spec..but the game does look interesting.....at least till Imprator comes back from the grave.

it will not take WoW much time to copy this idea i think.
they will call it something like..... "Cooperative Quests" or something dumb like that
PQ's are a nice idea but get old fast in my experience, its just a way to grind rep and gear without having to interact with others. So yes I think they are fun and i guess new but once the new'ness runs out be prepared for it feel like a grind.. as all things do in MMO's.
And also PQ's fall down when theres no one around to play them... be interesting to see what happens with PQ a few months after launch. No fun hanging around a PQ area only for there not being enough people prepared to participate for it to work. Try to invite a lvl 70 to a lvl 20 dungeon in WoW.. they just dont want to know... same will happen with WAR.
Try not to flame I am just looking ahead of time.
Yeah. Mythic did a great job at making grouping a passive feature, rather than an active feature. That way you don't have to stand around yelling for a group, you can just join one or just let others know they can join you, with only the click of a button on your part.
The PQ's are an extension of this where people can get involved without having to do anything but participate. They did change it where you have to participate in earlier stages in order to get loot from the PQ, but it was a welcome change. I mean, I was a Sorcerer, came in on the boss, hit him once and got 1st place. That needed to be changed. It rewards those who put the work into it.

Wow and many games have already had quests similar to PQ's, they were just random things here and there however. Mythic took that and made it a game encompassing thing which is a great addition to MMO gaming in my opinion and a step forward ont he questing system.
That said, it's no more innovative than the step WoW did to make questing itself a gameencompassing thing really. Levelling through questing alone (or close to it, wasn't possible in the beginning) was a great step forward as well.
Woot! Imperator! hope they bring this one back once War has been out for a bit and is doing good.
I love the PQ's ive done 7 different ones now and a total of 39 alltogether(cant get enough need to find more!)
I agree on the old time grouping feeling of it too, its probably why I like them so much.
on the adoption part it doesnt matter if the game does good great or horrible if its a good add in games will copy it no matter what.
god I hate to admit it...but that kinda makes sense...I mean if it did get really popular it wouldnt be that much of a problem...but it is pretty hard to tell for sure...maybe people will like the beginning game content so much they'll just re roll another character everytime they hit 40 haha. I guess time will tell
The PQ feel a bit like a Play to me. You walk out onto the stage and the actors are doing there skits. You take part in the play progressing through a few episodic pieces and wala the boss rumbles out. Instead of hearing a NPC tell you about a even you see and live through them.
It sorta gave the flow of the storyline little moments to look back on which highlight the flow of events. Making it very easy to RP if thats what you like to do
And to add what no one is mentioning....PQs will not become barren a few months after release......you get achivement unlocks based on the doing a lot of the PQs, sooooo they won't go away.
We will see if this idea gets copied. I believe Mythic patented/copyrighted it or something to that effect (like they did with the term "RvR" I believe back with DAOC....I know there was something they went through some legal ownership with that was their own design). I am sure WOW will follow suit with something similar though just like they are trying to do for the Tome of Knowledge.
WoW had nothing even close to the ToK.. wow achievement system is just that, you achieve somthing such as complete a 5man heroic with 4 players, or killed 50,000 players or reach max level on a profession and so on (there are over 600 in game currently). You dont get info on mobs/beasts/zones and so on.
People realy need to research and not just assume.
I'm just going to point out that this concept has been done before already, it just wasn't automated. They were quests run by "Seers" in Ultima Online. Being manually run, they were obviously harder to do and happened less often but, they were also better for many reasons.
Whether or not it becomes a new standard I do not know, but I imagine that the next WoW (after wotlk unless they already put it in) expansion will have zones filled with these

With a name like WoWarhammer you might as well make a block of text consisting solely of the word "blah". It will have the same effect.
MMOs Played: EQ 1&2, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, WoW, GW, CoX, DDO, EVE, Vanguard, TR
Playing: WAR
Awaiting 40k Online and wishing for Battletech Online
I think the idea has great potential.
It's like AV in wow but tracks who contributes instead of just "lets all try to do crap".
Thus, it will depend on how it works out and when they have pvp oriented PQ's.
Still sounds like a lot of fun though.

I think it's Open Parties that make Public Quests work and make them so appealing.
PQs without Open Parties would work, but wouldn't be nearly as much fun, in fact making a group for them would be a pain.
You get people who don't know about Open Parties asking 'Can I get an invite?', there's generally no need, just click the three skulls under your character portrait, find the closest Open Party, hit join and you're away.
Simple.
Had the same experience. I was really excited about their potential, enjoyed them, and then I rerolled a different character later on. By the time I got back to the PQs, nearly everybody else had moved on, and it was impossible to do them with so few people..
As a runepriest PQs consisted of pulling agro out of retard non skilled tank and dieing then respawning at gy that was like 15 min away of the PQ and then getting pissed at it . Finally to rejoin a RvR group or a scenario Q .
I dont know if its because tank arent used to play their class yet but none can still be able to keep agro on more than 1 mob ( heck even on 1 mob they have hard time , i could still pul agro on hero guys at BO even when hes at 50% ).
As a dedicated former healer i hate PQs right now but i guess it will get beter as i start to run with skilled ppl .
BTW im not flaming the game right there, i enjoy RvR so damn much but the pve so far suck to me , it feel like playing wow 1-59 all over again so im stiking to pvp right now .

Keep in mind that tanks don't get Taunt until level 10... I'm not sure at what level you had this experience though.
The PQs are a lot of fun and even if they do ultimately fall down in some way in WAR, I do not think the idea is going to go away. I suspect they're going to be very popular with the casual crowd and that alone will secure the concept's place in MMORPGs of the future.
I lvled up to 21 , in the PQ ive done ( was like lvl 18ish pqs ) we had spawn of 3 champ and there was no way he could keep agro on all 3 . Im guessing they get more aoe damage later in the game or the tank just sucked .
My ToK was like
Mob kill : 200
RvR kill : 6000ish
love RvR
Public questing = You dont have to talk to other people even when grouping
lol I dont hope, this will become standard.
