Have to agree with the OP, when I was picking my class I was really dissapointed with the choices.
I always play a tank class in my mmo's, and almost always play a standard human. I was a bit shocked to see that the Empire race doesn't even have a tank class, just a melee dps.
I sure as heck aint playing a dwarf, so I had to roll an elf, and honestly im not really into the whole mixing of melee and magic in the class, I want a pure melee tank that relies only on his skill with a weapon. Not to mention they don't really have a "tank" apperance to them, far to thin and delicate.
Give the Empire a solid tank class, like a standard warrior, and ill be happy.
Originally posted by LordDraekon This is my biggest problem with the exclusion of the four classes. Each race should have one of each of the main character archetypes. As it stands, there are glaring holes. Humans and Dark Elves have no Tanks, Greens and Dwarves no Melee DPS. You shouldn't have to "import" from other races in the early stages of the game. It feels unfinished and that's a shame. The game has so much going for it, but it's failing in the area of first impressions. I'm hoping that they find an acceptable way to remedy this soon after release, but it doesn't stop them from losing some points for the omissions. You shouldn't have to "get used to it". If they want consistent subscribers, Mythic needs to fix this - pronto! It's not like they haven't had time to at least get the classes right.
I don't buy this for a minute, the actual classes being missing didn't create any holes at all in the gameplay itself outside of maybe T1 scenarios during opening week which I dno't cnosider glaring at all.
The problem is that a lot of people don't want to be an elf or a dwarf and there is no human tank. If it had been say the dwarf tank cut instead of the human one it would have made no difference at all in the long run.
I'm short irl, smallest one of my class, it sucks but yeah, complaining won't help.
Anyways, Empire has a tank. it's a bit like a pally from WoW. You're a tank and you can heal, though ur healing spells aren't that great, and your defense ain't that great to but, together it makes a perfect combination.
So play that one if you want to roll a tank that's not to short nor to gay.
Or.. you can wait till they add in the class that was canceled.
The Warhammer IP established the Greenskins and Chaos as having the biggest and burliest warriors. That's part of the whole theme of mankind (and their allies) fighting against these terrible foes. Even with a human tank, they still wouldn't have been nearly as visibly imposing as a Chosen or Black Orc. I mean, the Knight of the Blazing Sun had helmets full of feathers.
That said, I won't argue that the class cuts were an unfortunate occurance. But Mythic was already setting up WAR to have less selection when they introduced gender-restricted classes. It seems to be a design choice they can accept, we'll just have to see if the players can as well. For myself, as long as the classes that *are* in the game are balanced and fun, then I don't really mind if there are less choices - and I'm an alt-aholic.
You guys are wrong. DoK and Warrior Priests are not tanks. Can they fill in for tank early on? Yes but not later on in the game if you played closed beta. DoK's and Warrior Priests are basically hybrid healers/melee class who can if needed tank. They have no taunting ability so if you pull aggro you are screwed. Hopefully Mythic will reintroduce tanks for the Empire and Dark Elf races again in a later date.
PS - If you don't keep a DoK/Warrior priest in the thick of combat you hurt their healing abilities big time. They need to do damage to build up essence/fervor in order to heal so they have to be within melee range of combat. Of course come level 20 and up they get group based AOE healing spells so this makes them in more suited for front line melee support. Throw them in a group with a tank and several dps and they can keep them healed no problem. Their single target heals ( 2 HoT healing spells ) are crap compared to the Zealot/Rune Priest or Shaman/Archmage.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I like short/small characters in games because they are usualy harder to target in RvR. No matter the race I always go short as I can. Big usualy = hey see me/kill me 1st! Altho I dont usualy play tanks... id rather a fellow player who is a tank take the hits while I hide behind him an then jump around when we get close an own everyone.. haha. So... now that I think about it... forget dwarf.. go "gay looking elf". I could probably hide behind just your lame conehead hat lol.
I know they are trying to keep on par with the warhammer lore but.. man those helms suck
On that aspect I say screw the lore an get different looking helms for hight elfs lol.

And this is why I refuse to buy this game until they add the other four classes. Cya until then!

Warrior Priest primarily works as a healer, as of right now anyway. Not a tank.
