Is AC1 still playable?

ToboldTobold Member Posts: 21

My MMORPG career began with UO, then 2 years of EQ, then DAoC, and a bunch of other second generation games. I somehow missed Asherons Call 1, and never played it.

So while I am waiting for EQ2 and WoW to come out, I'm looking for a game to bridge the waiting time, and I'm wondering if Asherons Call 1 would be a good idea. I think I saw the client for download on Fileplanet. Would you still consider it playable, or are its graphics totally outdated by now?

Oh, and if I play it, I'll probably need some information to get me started. Could somebody please point me towards a nice fan site with newbie guides and character creation advice?

Last time I played it roughly 3-4 years ago I had no problems playing it on 56k dial up. Since then they have probably improved the netcode a lil bit more prolly.

  •  Tobold,

You are better off posting this on the AC specific forums. Click on the link for them in the left margin.... where it says "Asheron's Call". Right above AC2.

If you want to know about AC, go to Maggie's site.  She has everything in game somewhere on it. It's still a great game and they just announced details on the next expansion.

Actually, '666' is an allagory. It is not an evil number. Or Satan's favorite number. That entire thing in the book of Revelation is all allagories, and illustrations, and figurative stuff. The beast, the number of horns it has, the woman it eats, the number of trumpets the Angels blow, etc...

There's a '69' at the end of my number of posts..... what does that mean to you now? imageimageimageimage

AC1 was an amazing game, and there is no doubt that the best times were fairly early on in my AC 1 career. A couple of months ago, I reactivated my account (and amazingly got all of my characters back! This is after having been closed for over 2 years!) I started having a look at the much aged world. A lot has changed. To me, I cant see that being a newbie now would be anywhere near as fun. However the basic framework that made it an amazing game is still there, so if you are interested in MMORPGs, then definitely have a go if you can. They did some things so damn well, that its worth having a look.

As an aged game, the newbie base has fallen away a fair bit. The majority of the population are hardcore fans who live in the world their whole lives. About 3/4 of the online population seemed to be made up of bots. Buff bots, trade bots, beg bots. If you do play, you can probably be powerlevelled very high very fast....

My advice is: Try it, it was, and partly still is, a brilliant game. Try not to get mixed up in the Powerleveling and botting, see if you can play it straight, you will have a lot more fun. As someone already mentioned, if you need any help on any topics, then check out the Jackcat's site. Its a brilliant resource for all things AC :)

lol, not to bust your chops image

The number 666 is a numerical system used to identify a person based on the numerical value of their names.  Nero's full name was 666 in terms of a numerical value.  The Book of Revelation used this as a warning for people who could understand it (depending on a certain eccliestical theology/and eschatology of the viewpoint)

Many churches find Revelation to be figurative.  Other churches find it literal.  And there is no specific eschatological book that can "outproove" the other.  I went to a Conservative college for my Bachelors of Theology and my M.Div and I went to a Liberal Seminary (Princeton) for my Ph.D. in Church History/ROman Antiquities and Th.M (theology) and both schools had just as impressive arguments on both sides of the fence image

lol, now that i completley hijacked the thread lol...to the original poster, I'd say why not? go and try it out.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

AC 1 is very playable and still lots of fun. I've been playing recently with some people who have just started playing AC. It's been a great experience. The great thing about AC is that there is content for everyone. Low, mid, high level stuff. Solo or Group. It's all there. And it's even more fun if you are part of a great guild like I am. Hope that helps.::::19::

Yea AC is still great. Well Darktide at least (pvp server), couldnt imagine playing a non-pvp server, too boring if you cant compete with other players.

If you liked pvp in uo, where skill mattered, you'll like AC.
